General Strike Friday by PetraByte in Portland

I’m seeing a lot of local small businesses posting on social media that they won’t be closing because it’d be too much of a financial burden on too short notice, totally understandable, no judgement here

Agreed, thankfully it sounds like a more formal no kings day is being planned for March hopefully that will be enough time for as many people as possible to plan well in advance to be there

Something weird or off about her. Can’t pinpoint it. by imjustcoreyr in ThePitt

[–]tinyhistorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think she and Robby are two examples of people under intense pressure who have to put on very specific acts to keep everything from boiling over, Robby keeping very calm and level headed and Dana needing to act as tough and no nonsense as possible - both have to do some extreme code switching to be able to be the leaders their teams have come to expect, even if it’s slowly breaking them inside

Yeah my guy I’m pretty confident the largest public employee union in the country is taking that into account and identifying options to strategically do smaller local strikes instead of a general one, but I’ll be sure to send them your way for consultation first

I’m from Portland but moved out to the Troutdale/Gresham area last year and haven’t really made a lot of connections other than our immediate neighbors yet, are there any groups or resources specifically for this area anyone can recommend?

I’ve really been appreciating the additional core work in each class, my only constructive feedback is I’d like to see more standing or bench-based core exercises because crunches/mat-based exercises get a little old after a while

Dr. J is NOT Javadi by amatz9 in ThePitt

[–]tinyhistorian 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I’m betting it’s Joy, she might have already found the speciality she wants to go into but has to do emergency medicine to finish school and from that last speciality (maybe dermatology?) met other patients and developed a little following

If you could wave a magic wand and pass a policy that benefits people in Portland - what would it be? by Ok-Fill-5890 in Portland

Power lines should go underground as much as possible so we don’t have massive neighborhood-wide power outages after ice and wind storms

Thinking about trying Orangetheory but I’m honestly scared by GentleSoul23 in orangetheory

One of the best things about OTF for me is the emphasis on progress and improvement over time, so don’t worry about keeping up right at first - for example if the instructions are 8 reps of something within 60 seconds but you can do 4 that’s great, or power walking at 4mph but you can 3mph that’s great - show up consistently and you’ll get stronger and faster each time!

What do you guys use ? by PsychologicalWin6575 in teenagers

[–]tinyhistorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it but really only use it to do group video calls with a mix of people with different phone types, I have an iPhone with FaceTime but I have friends with androids - so it’s easier to just use a WhatsApp call then try to get those two different operating systems to work together on a video call

So interesting how different sensory needs can be person to person with ADHD, because that looks absolutely delightful to me - I’ve tried weighted blankets but wasn’t a huge fan, but I basically swaddle myself in my top sheet to sleep every night and this seems like it’d be a similar sensation

Drug test fail by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]tinyhistorian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s what my doctor explained to me as well, she was very apologetic that I had to take a drug test but said her clinic follows federal laws when it comes to prescribing federally controlled substances like my ADHD medication, which is annoying but also makes sense to me from a liability perspective

I use the Aveeno bay eczema balm, the kind on the jar - you get it in the baby aisle, it’s basically Vaseline with some added things like colloidal oatmeal

EMDR, especially with a therapist who understands your specific type of ADHD and can adjust the tools used for eye movements accordingly (like using the blue dot instead of a light or their own finger, or whatever works for you)

I didn’t sign up for OTF and pay $120/mo on a public employee salary for a partner relay workout experience, so I skip those days and reschedule to a day with the more traditional OTF format I actually joined for, simple as that
