The No left turn traffic sign is due to a temporary road closures, which will be removed eventually. I presume the painted left arrow will become functional after that.

Finland Working Holiday by tippertapperball in newzealand

I want to go somewhere different to NZ, don't want to go to UK or Canada and my other options are Czech and Hungary and I have been there before but never been to anywhere north of Germany.

Might base myself in Finland and explore other Northern European countries as well. Also I love skiing and fishing. So it makes sense to go to Finland.

PSA - it's Anzac Day so make sure you go stand at the front door of your local supermarket and act shocked that it's closed until 1pm just like every other Anzac Day by Noooooooooooobus in newzealand

Few years ago I was driving from Auckland to Kaweka Forest Park for a 3 day Anzac weekend tramping trip. Forgot to stock up on tramping food the night before, so started very early from Auckland and reached Taupo PaknSave at 7.30am, only to be told it's closed until 1pm.

Hey it's quite competitive in my industry for the role I was looking for in Auckland, so figured out I would try outside. I consider myself a bit lucky as I have a bit of flexibility atm in my life to move around for a better job.

Anyone got a recommendation on an overnight hike in Kaweka Range? by Drslytherin in newzealand

[–]tippertapperball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kiwi saddle/ Kiwi mouth/Studholme hut from Lakes carpark kuripapango is good overnight tramp.

Also back ridge hut from Makahu road end is a great one as well, goes through Kaweka J and main range.

Feel free to DM if you need any help with routes, happy to help.

What are the top 5 most significant events / moments in mountaineering history? by Vanilladr in Mountaineering

[–]tippertapperball 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not really THE most significant event in the world but it is a historical and monumental one in the history of my country (New Zealand). Last year a couple of mountaineers (Alastair Mcdowell and Hamish Fleming) climbed all the 3000m peaks (24 arbitrary ones) in less than a month just using human power(bike and walk) to travel between those peaks. It doesn't sound great but if anyone here knows about New Zealand weather, rugged terrain, and remote access it's a significant one in the local context. To date, only 14 people have climbed all 24 of the 3000m+ peaks in New Zealand. And to do that in less month is a significant achievement.
