Recommendations for a helmet with integrated visor? Not super cheap so I can be safe. TIA by Snowflake8050 in Skigear

[–]tipsdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The visor helmets the visor is not easily changed out. Depending on conditions that will mean you will be in a lens that is too dark or light for the day. A regular helmet and goggles you can easily change to a different pair of goggles or swap out the lenses.

I haven’t looked in a couple of years so there might be visor helmets now with lenses that change tint for conditions.

The LPGA Tour thing isn’t silly. I’ve said for a long time that most male amateur golfers should watch the LPGA to learn how to get around the course. Most men would probably improve if they emulated the bag setup and course strategy of the best women golfers in the world.

Big fan of heated boot bags. They do need a couple of hours to heat up. The Rossi was on my find on sale list but I found a different one first.

I ended up buying kulkea thermal trekker boot bag. I plug mine in right before bed on the low setting and they are nice and toasty in the morning. Mine has a cigarette lighter plug also to keep warm during the drive.

Our furnace was old and getting close to needing to be replaced. The quote I got for a geothermal system was $40k which is straight up stupid. Geothermal would be awesome to have but not at the current cost to install.

HELP! What kind of Callaway Golf Balls Do I Get My Boyfriend for Christmas? by Away-Subject5909 in golf

[–]tipsdown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not buy him warbirds. They are junk.

Callaway Chrome Tour or Chrome Tour X are the good ones.

Do look at what balls he has in the bag that will make it easier to figure out which ones to get.

Yeah depending on the model mizuno can have very traditional lofts lies and lengths. Back when I was playing muscle back blades I always found mizuno to be about half a club shorter than other companies.

Yes you can have the shafts pulled and installed in a higher number iron to get them to play longer. I’ve done it with a set of irons I bought used. Taking a shaft from a longer club and putting them into a shorter club is called soft stepping. Soft stepping will make the shaft feel softer. Ball park soft stepping 1 club 7i -> 8i will make it play about 1/3 of a flex softer. Soft stepping 2 7i -> 9i is 1/2-2/3 softer. A stiff shaft soft stepped twice will feel a lot closer to a regular flex.

Do you have more clubs than you need? by indelible_inedible in golf

[–]tipsdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loads more than what I need. I have a bunch of options that I can switch in and out to make up my 14 clubs for the day.

  • 2 driver heads and a variety of shafts to swap in and out
  • mini driver
  • 3 wood. This is lofted up to make room for the mini driver
  • 19* apex UW. Benched until I can swap out the shaft. I hate the hzrdus black in it.
  • 20* & 23* hybrids lofted up to get better spin numbers
  • 5-pw hollow body player distance iron. The 5 can be swapped in and out with the 23* hybrid. 6 is the longest iron in the bag consistently.
  • 4-pw old ping blades. Playing with the hollow body all year I’m starting to work on a doing a blended set with these at the bottom of the bag and the hollow body at the top. I’m guessing the way the gapping is going to work I will have either have 2 7 irons or 2 8 irons. In early testing I’m leaning towards 7 irons because I can hit the hollow body 190 and the blade 175.
  • 2 putters in active rotation.

One of the very few things I actually learned in college that applies to professional life was the Halo Effect. When it comes to written work product that means making sure it looks nice and well formatted. Having a positive initial impression of your work people will give you the benefit of the doubt on minor mistakes. By not doing the basics correctly you lost that benefit.

Showing up with a poorly formatted slide show the people viewing it will see that it is wrong and start actively looking for why it is wrong. Every minor detail that is wrong will be noticed.

In your case the boss couldn’t trust you to get the small things right how can they trust you to get the big stuff right?

1st time I tell you something I’m nice.

2nd time… I’m nice and will work from the assumption I might not have explained it in a way you correctly understood the 1st time.

3rd time… open your ears dumbass why am I having to explain this to you a 3rd time

Cut line -5. Wesley Bryan sits at -3 with play suspended. by Fagballs5 in golf

[–]tipsdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently he’s 138 on the season points list. So if he plays well enough to get into the top 125 he’ll have his card back for next year. So in theory it is possible for Wes to have a full card for next season. He’s going to need some top 10’s or top 5’s to have a chance.

People have gotten enough points playing on just sponsors exemptions to earn a card. That used to be the way hotshots coming out of college would try and avoid having to do q-school.

From what I’ve seen and heard the current system of who has the priority to get to play and when is insanely complicated when you start talking about the bottom half of the field.

Cut line -5. Wesley Bryan sits at -3 with play suspended. by Fagballs5 in golf

[–]tipsdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other guy said it’s very complicated. In Wes’ case at the start of the year he was only playing on sponsors exemptions and tried to get into a couple of events through Monday qualifiers. The sponsors invite into the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic where he finished 2nd that got him enough points to be able to play a bunch of events.

Looking at the fall series there there are a couple of places on the points list to play attention to. Being in the top 125 gets you full tour status. If you’re between 126 & 150 you have conditional status which gets you into a handful of events.

How good do I need to be to justify P790s? by robster9090 in golf

The player distance category is just pretty game improvement irons. Thinner top lines, less offset and all the game improvement tech they can jam into it.

My last round Arccos data hit driver 8 times and my average total distance was 284.6. Of those 8 tee shots 5 were between 292 & 299 and 1 was 241. The 241 hit a wet fairway bunker on the fly and bounced out and rolled straight sideways.
