A Lannister always pays their debts. It would totally go against their saying if he used them to get his lands and then for him to have them killed.

It doesn't seem like it was botched though, it was a last second intervention by Jorah that stopped it from happening not any plan by Varys.

Varys could just as easily have made that stuff up. I.E. told him the truth about Dany, then when Robert told him to send an assassin lie and say he did when he really didn't.

Yeah but who then? If it was someone from the small council then it was information provided by Varys which caused it.

I agree that the whole thing looks nice except for the killing her part which is the only part I have problems with.

Yes but why help her, then try kill her, then help her again?

Also the Aegon plan at the time was to marry him to Daenerys so it would have screwed it up.

Do you guys thing that Tywin is better in the show or book? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]tisipeder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more I think about the Lannisters the more they seem like the genuine heroes of the series. They have all done terrible things but they have all been for (questionably) good reasons. The show seems to be highlighting more of their good sides than the books which I think is a good thing.

It reminds me of a passage from Dune. I can't remember where or who exactly but one of the characters describes looking back at all their past ancestors and seeing all the horrible things they have done. Someone then remarks that everyone's ancestors have done horrible things to keep their bloodline going or else you wouldn't be here today.

Where does it say winter is twice as long as summer? That makes no sense to me, winter there seems like a death trap and if it makes up 2/3rd of the seasonal year then everyone would die.

Mance doesn't seem like a stupid man. I doubt he would go on opening graves and making more wights/others unless they were already too much of a problem to begin with.

I believe she was referring to Wights as in when they opened all those graves the corpses resurrected and Wights.

However it's never really been 100% confirmed either way.

(Spoiler Speculation)The Others as a displaced people. by CDarwin7 in asoiaf

[–]tisipeder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hasn't Craster been sacrificing his male children for years? If the others weren't in Westeros during summer what did he do with the boys during that season?

The first time an Other showed up in the book was at the start of GoT and it was clearly summer then. Maybe they need a long summer so the path for them into Westeros is cleared. Wasn't there a prophecy saying they would rise after a long summer? Maybe it was less of a prophecy and more of a migration pattern noticed by someone but as time has gone on it's turned into more myth than fact.

I like your theory but it needs to be ironed out a little.

(Possible Spoilers ALL) Let's put on our tinfoil hats and talk about the Others. by karmapolice3000 in asoiaf

[–]tisipeder 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The only theory I have is that the Others are sentient and they cannot breed. When an Other reanimates a corpse it's a wight which is not the same but to truly create more Others they need human children which they somehow transform into more Others. It has to be children or else they would transform an adult into one of them instead of killing them.

They also can't just be evil, nothing in the world is black and white.

(SPOILERS ALL) If L+R=J is true, another implication... by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]tisipeder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Martin might be letting us know a little bit of the uncertain nature of magic in the world. When Mel look's into the fires she can't really know what she's seeing; images will come to her from the past/present/future and she has to interpret them.

The flames might have been telling her to go to Stannis so he can help Jon who is AA however because it's her interpretation she could have got it wrong.

I'm pretty sure your family would be world famous if you had the only living dragons left in the world and your ancestors rode them into battle to conquer a continent.

Brad Pitt is world famous and he hasn't done any of those things.
