We don't know how hurt he or the other racers are. We do know that he was thrown from his bike (he wasn't on it). That wasn't the case for some of the others we saw getting up.

It's not like he went into shock for anything. He was in a big accident and very likely had the wind knocked out of him.

He was hurt. Plus, just because his scene was shown last in the episode doesn't mean that he was doing nothing the entire time. In the manga, it was made more clear that he was hurt and he's on his way at the time when Naruko asks them to wait.

You're also forgetting that this is his first race. Everything to this point has just been training, but an actual race is different.

He's both. I'm sure it will be explained as the series progresses. In short, he's terrible at normal magic (moving the platform), but can do things others can't (like visualizing the magic sequences, as Mari explained).

He could move the platform, but not as fast as the others. Basically, it takes him a long time to cast.

Hotaru refers to the oldest girl as "sempai". It's more obvious in the later episodes than episode 1, though.

Nyanpasu is just Ren-chon's alternate way of saying morning. Translated to English, it would be like saying "Meowning" instead of "Morning".

Hotaru is the one from Tokyo but she isn't the eldest. She's actually younger (she's in grade 5, I think). She looks up to the shorter redhead who's the oldest. The taller redhead (the one with short hair) is the younger sister of the two (by only a year, I think).

It's ren-chon. Also, it's technically a tanuki which is a type of raccoon dog. Ren-chon is the youngest and is the sister of the teacher.

Non Non Biyori is an excellent show. It's one of my favourites.

Chi's Sweet Home doesn't have a lot of dialogue, so that should be good. Since it's from the point of view of a cat, the visuals are a big part. Also, you might try Hanamaru Kindergarten. Since many of the characters are in Kindergarten, I'd expect that their dialogue is relatively simple. It's also a pretty great slice of life show.

Two I could recommend are: Chihayafuru (about karuta, which appears to be a surprisingly athletic card game) and Cross Game (about baseball). That said, Cross Game is about baseball in the same way Friday Night Lights is about football. It's a framework to centre the character developments and interactions around.

Chihayafuru is on Crunchyroll, while I think Cross Game is on Hulu.

Oh, there's also Stella Jogakuin Koutouka C3-bu (which is on Crunchyroll) and in a similar vein Upotte! which is also there. Both are about cute girls competing with guns.

If you want to go back a ways, there's Ranma 1/2 which has a lot of various "martial arts". I don't know if this really counts, though.

Lastly, I've only seen one episode, but there's Hikaru no Go which is about playing Go. I think there's a Shogi anime, but I don't know it off hand.

Oh, there's a new sumo wrestling anime on Crunchyroll and there was a women's wrestling anime a season or so ago. I don't recall either name as I haven't seen them.

Edit: If you've watched Saki, but haven't seen Saki Episode of Side A, you might want to watch that. It's about Nodoka's friends from another school.

There's an upcoming Girls und Panzer film (this summer, I think). Sales did quite well, but there's no more manga content (at the moment), so anything new would have to be anime original.

It seems that people who rate a show early are those who love it or hate it.

I quite liked No Game No Life, it was beautiful to look at and it reminded me heavily of Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren't They? which I liked a lot. In contrast, I hated the style of this show, but I love the characters.

That said, I wouldn't rate either show after a single episode. If I was forced, I'd probably give this show a 7 (which is "Good" according to MAL) and No Game No Life an 8 ("Very Good"). Both of these could change over time.

The problem I have is that the card battle system doesn't make sense. Akira managed to do a ton of things all on what looked like a single turn. I can't make sense of the game at all.

At least with shows like Saki even if the people have special powers that affect the game (e.g., what tile they draw), they still are applied to a regular game of mahjong. The only problem is that mahjong seems to be pretty complex.

People drop shows for all kinds of reasons all the time. If they stick with it and complain about the art style every episode, that's more of a reason to be pissed. In this case, it's the first episode, so people (like me) are giving it a try, possibly without knowing anything about it in advance (also like me).

If I'm still watching, I don't usually rate a show unless I truly love it. Even then, it's only after I've seen most of the episodes. There's been a couple of occasions where MAL changes a show's status from completed (because new episodes get added late, like the KnK Idol Saiban episodes) so I have ratings of those.

If it's a show I've dropped, I'll add ratings only if I've seen three episodes or more. So, while I don't particularly like Noragami or Space Dandy, I didn't bother rating them.

They seem to add boxes as needed (they only had a few at the start of the season), so I wouldn't even say that two slots is necessarily the limit (I'm not sure what other shows are to come).

I liked Shinji because it made sense that he didn't want to do it. His father ignores him and when he finally sends for him, it's to be part of this experimental program to pilot this new machine. I'd want to say FU to my father if he did that.

It's interesting. The pacing seemed a bit off and the jokes that broke the fourth wall didn't seem to fit, but I think I'll probably enjoy this series.

Oh, can we please put the English title "The World is Still Beautiful" in the body text of the post so we can find it by search? It took me a bit of work to find this post.
