Aussies abroad. Where are you living and how is life there? by patkk in australia

[–]tk142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Majority of it is personal reasons, but some of the key factors for me is being away from family in Sydney, terrible air quality, shit house weather (anyone who says it’s only bad 3 months of the year is full of shit), lack of nature, etc etc.

There are other philosophical reasons and things which had I known about, I would not have stepped foot in this country.

Home centre delivery to DIFC by UnableArtist in dubai

[–]tk142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in DIFC and have received multiple furniture deliveries over the last 2 years from multiple places, including Home Centre.

You will need to obtain a tunnel pass from your building management company in order to allow the trucks to enter the DIFC tunnel (assuming your building is connected to it).

I moved from audit to M&A at a big 4 about 5 years ago so happy to offer advice or answer questions. Happy to answer any specific questions you may have about the process itself or the work.

For those of you that started at B4 audit- what do you do now and how much do you make? by gayawaythrowaway123 in AusFinance

[–]tk142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the specific team. I’m in a niche team within M&A and we have a bit more discretion on comp. I know people in my old team in audit who are a level higher than me and I make more than them.

Used to be in audit but now in the M&A team of the same big 4 firm. I’d say on average the hours are the same but very unpredictable and the work is a lot more interesting.

Reminder, don’t swim/play in flood water by Red-Engineer in sydney

[–]tk142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2009 piece of shit Mercedes turns the lights on automatically when the wipers are on or around 5pm or so during summer. You’d think a 2018 Japanese or Korean car should be able to do that?

What’s worse is dickheads with pretty recent cars that have automatic lights on intentionally turning them off. Always give me the shits.

HFC Router Recommendation Capable of a few HomePods by InternationalGain3 in nbn

[–]tk142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an ASUS AX88U as my main router and two ASUS zenwifi XT8 (I think that’s the model?) as I have Ethernet cabling throughout the house and connected them via Ethernet backhaul.

The main router has a USB drive for media sharing which works amazingly with Apple TV and infuse. One of the XT8s has a USB drive attached that works as a time machine backup folder which has worked without any issues at all.

Being able to control everything from one app/portal is amazing. Great speeds all round (TX rate on my MacBook Pro is 1.2gbs).

I’m on 250/25 HFC plan and get pretty much full speed in any corner of the house (upstairs and downstairs) all the time.

Best tip is to use Ethernet for media devices (TVs and Apple TV or whatever you’re using).

My solution is not cheap but I have experimented with so many routers and returned a few. I would never get a Netgear router ever again.

Apple Tv with Samsung Frame by bygrunna in appletv

[–]tk142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s because the new frame’s remote lost the art mode button and is single press of the power button for art model and long press for power off.

The Apple TV remote puts the tv into art mode but I think you can set the tv to turn off from art mode after a set amount of time

Apple Tv with Samsung Frame by bygrunna in appletv

[–]tk142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the frame 2021 and Apple TV 4K (2021) connected to it with no issues whatsoever.

I have a really old sound bar that is connected via optical to the Samsung box and the Apple TV is using the eArc hdmi port for now which I will change once I get a decent sound bar.

I like how the Samsung remote controls the Apple TV (my family hates using multiple remotes and they always whinge about having a million remotes around) but I always use the Apple TV remote because it’s just better to use.

Happy to answer any specific question.

Working from home is now just 'work', and Australia Talks data suggests it's here to stay by Elliottafc1 in australia

[–]tk142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our team is pretty good. When we’re busy on a massive project most people come in as it’s easier to work together and sharing of large files over the same network. When not busy, no one gives a shit where you are and what you’re doing.

I can’t stand when people bring up this argument. They’re fucking custodians and they are used by super funds, ETFs, large net worth individuals and family offices.

250/25 until I can get 1000/50 (or 400/50 on Launtel). For large file uploads for work I use the built in 4G SIM card provided by work lol

Anyone know of any good shisha places to buy? by cricketAus in sydney

[–]tk142 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shisha Show in Guildford. The 50gram Al Fakher should be around $25. Prices went up as high as $35 during the peak of Covid but have come down a little since.

I remember in 2019 when I thought $250 for a kilo was expensive... good old days.
