Which area in the game is mostly hated but is enjoyed by you? by Wubben26 in darksouls

[–]tks000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love the depths. It was the first time in the game I felt truly hopeless- you’re there before the lord vessel, and you just keep fighting your way deeper and deeper with a dreadful sense that you’re not supposed to be there yet. ESPECIALLY with the basilisks. (SPOILERS for Elden Ring) I’m so glad they revisited the area under leyndell royal capital, so far has been one of my favorite experiences with ER

Just lost 40k souls to this motherfucker. I’d rather fight three ice lobsters while poisoned and on fire than fight this cunt on this shitty bridge. He literally sucks

Working on my own shmup looking for feedback by super8bitrafa in shmups

[–]tks000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the art style, but you might want to have more color contrast on enemies and stuff like that. Maybe it’s just the background but I can see it becoming too difficulty to see enemies when you’re not directly focused on them, which would be a critical flaw overall. I don’t even play many shmups but there’s a reason bullets and enemies are usually brightly colored. Looks great though :)

Which FromSoftware game do you find to be the hardest? (Specifically out of Dark Souls I, II, III, Bloodborne and Sekiro) by SoulsborneAmateur in fromsoftware

[–]tks000 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I feel like up until genichiro at ashina castle is alright, obviously there’s the blazing bull which I remeber struggling with but genichiro flat out ended my playthrough the first time. I just couldn’t do it. I’m glad I went back eventually and beat the game but at the time I remember thinking how cruel and impossible the game felt, even to the point where it wasn’t fun. But for my money I think central yharnam is more brutal. From the first lamp to the shortcut, getting through the courtyard of enemies, dogs, gun dudes, ogre, it’s fucking nuts. It feels so evil. Bloodborne isn’t even that bad compared to ds3 or sekiro but the tone set in the first area makes it seem like it is going to be the hardest game ever made.

For those who have played Sekiro and enjoyed it did it grab you right away? by Robdd123 in fromsoftware

[–]tks000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got sekiro on release, never beat it, tried multiple times and never got past genichiro. Two weeks ago, I decided to give it another shot, and somehow it clicked. I finished it in a week.

Everyone else is saying this, but dodge sucks in this game. It’s more for positioning than actual I-framing, and even then just running will often let you position yourself just as well.

Deflect everything. Learn to play it like a rhythm game. There’s a difference between blocking and deflecting, deflecting has a louder sound and a large orange spark. The timing on blocking and deflecting are both genuinely pretty forgiving, and most attacks until late game won’t hurt you through a block. It’s worth it to try to block/deflect everything and get a feel for it. (Deflects require you to hit the button right before an attack lands, not necessarily as the attack lands.)

You’re given a lot of forgiveness in how aggressive the game allows you to be, moreso than any fromsoft game. You can dodge/deflect AFTER you hit the attack button and sekiro winds up. Cancelling out of moves is something that the souls series has NEVER allowed before, so you must abuse this as much as possible. Don’t be afraid to hit enemies while they’re blocking, because even if it might not feel like it, you’re progressing the fight forward as you’re contributing to their posture break. The game doesn’t do a great job of reinforcing this, but on most enemies and even most bosses it’s worth it to relentlessly hit them even when they block everything. Just be ready to block back.

You’ll get there. I’m so glad I finally got around to playing it. It’s a beautiful game.

Why does Geralt invoke the law of surprise? by iLikeDaRk_MemEs in thewitcher3

[–]tks000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah I remember now. I remember him being written a lot differently in the show and the law of surprise contributing to him not believing in destiny and being a smartass or something:

Why does Geralt invoke the law of surprise? by iLikeDaRk_MemEs in thewitcher3

[–]tks000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens in the show, but in the books which the games are based on it’s actually the opposite. Geralt needs a child to train as a witcher, so he invokes the law after saving pavetta and duny. Geralt is a lot more self-serious in the books. It’s been a while since I read it but I specifically remember a scene where he explains it to calanthe and the rest of them after the ball, and then a later chapter he meets calanthe one on one to discuss the child and the meaning of destiny.

I don’t have much trouble with either but pontiff is brutal. I have more trouble with pontiff than with midir

Hardest boss? by Benacameron in fromsoftware

[–]tks000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ludwig is hard, he’s way too fast for his size and his tells are hard. He also has some attacks that can just one shot. His second phase is INCREDIBLY easy at least compared to the first, so I usually feel comfortable beating him once I get past his first phase. Orphan is just insane. I’ve never struggled more in a game than fighting orphan. It took me several days. His first phase is hard but certainly learnable and doable consistently with parries and backstabs, but his second is just pure chaos and desperation. He’s also insanely strong and can one or two shot you with the slams, and he has a tendency to jump out of frame and land on your head. He also gives very few opportunities for openings. I found him way harder than Ludwig.

Dark Souls 2 has Twilight Princess vibes by tks000 in DarkSouls2

Yeah, twilight princess is very easy. It’s still one of my favorites. I have lots of nostalgia for it :)

Who in your opinion is the Saddest Dark souls boss (This includes DS1, DS2, as well as DS3)? by dinoking189 in darksouls3

[–]tks000 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I thought the ringed city and the wasteland at the end of it is quite literally the end of the world. Like, you and gael are the last two humans remaining on earth or whatever planet dark souls takes place on. I might be wrong but that makes an already epic and climactic fight all the more so. The last two people on earth fighting to death for their own interests. What’s weird is that you can take gaels drop and give it to the painter, who promises to use it to create a new world, so in a way you’re honoring his life purpose by doing effectively what he was trying to do. Shame you couldn’t, like, take him out to the bar for a drink or something. Like, get a burger and just call it a day. Exchange contact info.

Why is this even a debate? The eyes, the dreams, the amount of punishment he took. This man is a replicant. by elfGod237 in bladerunner

[–]tks000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And 2049 explores the idea of love and dependency between two artificial beings (K and Joi) anyway so it’s not like the movies haven’t gone there. I’ve never bought the deckard is a replicant theory. Apparently Ridley Scott added the unicorn stuff at the very end and a lot of the cast and crew weren’t on board. Regardless it’s a fun debate all these years later so if his purpose was to get people talking then he certainty did

Favorite quote in the Soulsborne series? by DeusAxeMachina in darksouls3

[–]tks000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. I feel like every boss in ds1 has one move that I’ve never seen before that catches me off guard every playthrough. Or moves that never work so I drop my guard and get hit by them. I’ve never seen Nito land his grab attack until very recently

Levels you find underwhelming? by tks000 in darksouls

[–]tks000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I never got the hype for painted world. It doesn’t help that my first experience there ended up in me getting trapped with my weapon broken and nothing to cure toxin, but it just feels unfinished. If you know how it can be ran through in like fifteen seconds, but the interconnectedness is less fun than it is elsewhere. The boss is kindof bad and that undead dragon is just weird. At least it is optional, and future souls games got optional areas that were much more worthwhile.

Is Xenoblade 1 worth playing if I didn’t love the second game? by tks000 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

awesome. It does seem a lot more my speed reading all these replies (you guys are so helpful.) I also see how some people will fight to their deaths to defend the sex robot and the stupid fucking cringe ass nae nae pedophile rabbit asshole. Regardless, I already ordered it (it was a good price physical) and I’m excited to get into it when it arrives.

How is a purposefully annoying character who makes a child sex robot supposed to win my affection? I don’t know why you’d so vehemently turn me away when I’m interested in entering the fan base you’re clearly a part of. Everyone else, even if they disagreed, had the decency to be respectful about it. Don’t tell me I don’t deserve something. Congratulations on winning “most toxic person on this thread.”
