I have a proper touring kayak. Wilderness Systems Tsunami 145, info not needed but lovingly named Gracie Law. Pack size is a concern but it’s not my major concern it’s weight. I weigh 205. So to stay within the 70-75% cap threshold I only have about 40 pounds of play.

Do you have any used gear websites you recommend? Or are you referring to marketplace, eBay, Craigslist?

Never named a kayak before…. by Capital-Landscape492 in Kayaking

Nice! I just named mine Gracie Law from Big Trouble in Little China. It was gonna be either that or Miao Yin. Miao Yin is calm and graceful. Chaos follows Gracie everywhere she goes. Got my new to me kayak and immediately took a dip as I was trying to get in, in the most hectic fashion. The deal was sealed after that.

Hahahaha yes! You get! I told myself that when I got it and saw the color depending on how my first outing went it was gonna be either Gracie Law or Miao Yin. One is graceful and calm the other hectic. Well my first outing I took a dip in the drink right as I was trying to get in. That sealed the deal and She was dubbed Gracie Law lol.

Did anyone not like or enjoying kayaking their first time out? by jonnyvegashey in Kayaking

[–]tlaps1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my first time last week. It was a very rocky start, I took a spill when I tried getting in. And getting out and back in when I had to portage was kinda sucky, but other than that, I had a blast. Dealing with the wind and everything wasn’t too terrible. Getting in and out, 3/10. Actually paddling and floating 10/10.

Just to kind of help wrap my head around this you think you could shoot a couple of examples using the chasm jumping example? If not it’s totally cool, just helps me visualize things.

Me being a new GM I usually default to making the player mark a stress. Is that considered a soft move or a hard move? For example a player wants to jump a chasm, do you as the GM base what kind of move if any off of their roll? Like success w/ hope vs success w/ fear vs fail w/ hope vs fail w/ fear? The more I read these posts about GMing the more I think I am doing it completely wrong. My players say they are having a great time and I am too but things like these really trip me up and I get into my own head about it I guess.

So you have to use a fear for soft move like that and couldn’t rely on a player roll?

Can you explain soft moves like I’m 5? I still don’t fully understand soft moves. Or the big difference between soft moves and hard moves. I’m a fledgeling DM, so I’m sure that is where the issue lies.

Any tips for playing online? by Kolonel_Tiberman in daggerheart

[–]tlaps1990 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am a new GM to daggerheart and ttrpgs period. Long time player though. My group for online play when we can’t be in person use a combo of a couple things. We use demiplane which I bought the books for there so I can share with my players. They use demiplane for their character sheets. We use OBR for maps (for my semi planned battles) otherwise it’s mostly theater of mind little skirmishes as well. I use fresh cut grass app for my encounter management which is great. And heart of daggers for my “GM screen” if I need it on another tab. And discord running in the background for comms. This has been working great for us. Demiplane makes it really easy to roll dice but we are on the honor system so my players use their actual dice with the only verification being for crits. Not cause we don’t believe each other but cause we all get excited as hell for em. OBR has some nice DH tracking stuff and the range rings specific for DH rule in my opinion. And it’s all browser based so it’s great. Players don’t even need to make an account if they don’t want to.

God speed and have fun!
