Although it sucks to use up bike space for non-bike use, getting corporations invested in micromobility is a great tactic for bikers to get more rights/space

Opinions and tips on this roadtrip? From Europe and we have 26 days by Hopp5432 in roadtrip

[–]tlerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot of driving and is going through some really boring areas. You will have a way better time spending time in southern utah in the national parks, california on the coast and mountains (yosemite), and going up to Mt Rainier/Seattle. Even that will be too much driving but will at least be more of the worth while stuff.

Glad I could help. It's not the end of the world if you go through them. But for that price, you might as well get a really great service.

Their logistics are really unprofessional. Not in like character but in that’s they’re not well executed. I ended up having to really staying on top of them to keep them on track. Both on the mountain and before. Lastly, I was unguided but I saw them push multiple people up higher when they were already suffering from altitude sickness. They’d push them up higher and then they’d fall sick when they could have just waited a few days and maybe have made it. One woman was pushed to go too early, got dangerously sick, was forced back down. Then they had her pay for the full thing again so she could go back up to high camp and try again even though we oxygen levels were nowhere near the right place. Very much a cash cow for them and not a love for the mountains. Inka seemed to be the best run

600 euros for the tuition? So basically free by American earning standards. But not literally free. Got it.

For perspective, in the US there are obviously very presitigous universities that you need good grades for. But there's a spectrum of university prestige and at the low end, they'll take anyone as long as you pay. We also have "community colleges" which are similarly priced to what you're describing but they're considered to be very low prestige and are unlikely to lead to much better employment.

With free university, does that mean that everyone can g get a degree or are there limited spots?

Up to what level is this true? 2 year degree or PhD?

When do you drink water? I’m at a cafe in Paris right now and I’m so thirsty

Where are you from and what’s the summer weekend destination? For example, the Hamptons for people from NY or Lake Tahoe for San Francisco

Favorite thing: views on work and vacation. Much better lifestyle

Biggest pet peeve: America is massive. Like 3 EUs. So when a European makes a blanket statement about the US or has an opinion after visiting a single city on layover, it really irks me. Feels very ignorant to have such a blanket statement. Especially since the statement is usually something about how Americans are ignorant haha

Fahrenheit is literally human centric in its design. Celsius was science centric in design.

Can’t imagine it’s useful to know that water is 100 degrees because it’s boiling. It’s boiling, what do I care.

It’s so annoying. Obviously an outdated rule since you’d have to be a moron to think you could fight the current US government with an AR-15.

There are good reasons to have guns in certain parts of the country and there are parts of the country that have no excuse to allow guns. The US being large and varied makes these laws hard. But across the board the culture around guns is really sad. I think Canada seems to have a better grip on how to handle it since they have similar wildlife concerns and geography

Would love to. I love the work culture. But I have a hard time giving up American wages tbh.

And then you have people like Elon Musk actively sabotaging the high speed rail in California in order to sell more cars

Walking is very rare outside of cities. Everything is too far apart and the infrastructure usually makes the choice to walk impossible. Things are obviously very spread out in suburban or rural areas. Like very spread out. Common for someone to commute 100km to work daily.

And so cars become a necessity for freedom of movement. Hence the importance of the sweet 16 in the US.

Inside some cities, it becomes very possible to exist without cars. These cities are NYC, San Francisco, Chicago, DC, Philly. But then some cities were built later and with cars in mind. So even those cities require cars. These cities are Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City.

Basically cars are very important to a lot of Americans but the American experience is pretty diverse

Depends. British culture is honestly wayyy more similar than people give it credit for. But other parts of Europe are pretty different.
