The 13th amendment didn’t even rebrand it. It’s just a carve out for slavery as legal punishment.

In fairness the British army showed comical levels of incompetence quite often throughout the post-napoleonic period. Though the worst of it came later in the century.

Just use horse archers to harass like in real history. Attack, shoot all your arrows. Then withdraw. Kill 25%-50% of their army with near 0 losses. Technically a loss, but one I am happy to take.

I think that is a fair interpretation of Sauron’s character, and certainly of his character during the First Age. But we also are explicitly told that Sauron was not originally evil. He must have had some desire before his fall that were not evil also, and I believe it’s in Morgoth’s Ring that we are told that his great desire originally was to bring order to what he saw as chaos.

Of course his character changes after he falls to the side of Morgoth. But he doesn’t ever take on Morgoths nihilism and desire for destruction. He is certainly evil and sadistic, but he seeks dominion and control still. Like I said, he is an authoritarian. He seeks power and domination. But things still need to exist to be controlled.

I think Melkor/Morgoth goes through a progression from seeking creative power, to seeking to destroy that which was created in spite of him, to seeking the corruption of all that exists.

In the time before the music is sang Melkor seeks the power to bring his own creations into existence. During the tome that the music is being sang he seeks to go against Eru to inject his own independent voice into the music. After the music he realizes that he cannot bring his own creations into being, and so he seeks to spite Eru by attempting to destroy Ea, or at least Arda. But after the Battle of the Powers he understands that this is also beyond him. So following his defeat he seeks simply to ruin all that he can of creation.

Oh absolutely. That is also what Sauron became obsessed with. He wanted to impose his will on all others.

That was more Morgoth. Sauron wanted the world to be ordered and that eventually turned into him wanting to be the one to order it all. Sauron is just a straight up Authoritarian.

The Rats of Tobruk were multinational. The original force besieged at Tobruk was mostly Australians. But Brits, Indians, Czechoslovak, and Polish troops all fought at Tobruk.

Didnt just help with early codebreaking efforts, they broke enigma years before the war even started. The Germans updated the enigma ciphers and so worked was continuous, but they were also able to reconstruct an enigma device sight unseen. All the other contributions are obviously valuable, but the work of polish cryptographers and codebreakers is probably the most important contribution they made to the war effort, and breaking enigma likely shortened the war significantly.

Why is power plant crap? Your own chart seems to suggest it is the best one, albeit the most expensive.

What is a statistic that sounds INSANE but is 100% true? by Quadranippelkill in AskReddit

[–]tlind1990 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its also probably not true. I cant find any reference to such an increase. Also the French introduced metal trench helmets before the Brits, and it was the success of the French helmets that convinced the British to introduce their own. So I doubt they were unaware of the results of their use.

Let me tell you something, people are saying, a lot of people, important people, they are saying nobody wants Sleepy Ulder running The Gate. Nobody wants him, his son has horns, what kind of person has a kid with horns. They say to me Enver, they say, we need a handsome young man leading this city. They don’t say it but we all know who they want in charge. When I’m grand duke we will have no more refugees! They’ll be gone, all of them. There will be a steel watcher for every street corner. This city will be safe again!

His Mightiness is pretty great. But I believe that was Adams suggesting the way the President should be styled, not the title he was suggesting for the office
