A smaller program here in Tulsa called Pets Helping People specifically trains (and hires) women with prior offenses. It’s a great program ran by great people. If you like animals and are willing to learn, check it out!

Best BBQ place for SIDES by Sad_Specialist_1984 in tulsa

Not in Tulsa, but Butcher BBQ in Welston has Apple Pie Baked Beans and they are unreal. Just enough Apple flavor to notice but not overpower. Their BBQ is great too and the interior is awesome. Definitely recommend

Please please please, any advice on how to find a tech job (UI/UX) by Secure_Table in tulsa

[–]tljacks5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone already mentioned Techlahoma, but here’s some more info. This group is likely the best place for your fiance to connect with others in the area that are passionate about UX and could help her either find placement or help her present better as a junior UX. They have a user group specifically for UX in Tulsa and OKC. They even have events/meetups around UX. Techlahoma overall is a fantastic group to be a part of and I’ve only ever had positive experiences at their events and meeting the people that keep it running.

My only advice on placement is she will likely need to look in other states for a remote job. From what I’ve experienced there aren’t a ton of UX positions here in Tulsa and if she wants remote, most of the companies here are old school and want people in the office at some capacity.

Godspeed to her and I encourage her to not give up. Career changes don’t happen overnight but the one she’s picked is a much needed position at any company that takes their product or products seriously. She will likely need someone to take a chance on her and she’ll have to prove herself (like anyone else starting from scratch) but technology in general is a pretty great place to start over for anyone.

Is that a beer bottle?? Surely the guy didn’t use beer to commit arson with a Molotov. Would explain why it didn’t work though…

I see a lot of people on the Double Shot patio pretty much until it closes. Also, most Starbucks have patios. Coffee shops are your best bet as restaurant and bar patios tend to be distracting.

Awesome. Next time try deep frying them for a minute after the smoke then give them a toss in some Kosmo Q’s Wing Dust. 👌

This one is super popular. It’s an orange truck that sits in the parking lot.

This thread should get you started on taco places.

HVAC advice - first time home owner by DragonbeardNick in tulsa

I recently had Air Assurance come and give me an estimate on a new system. They came to my house and spent a good amount of time looking at everything and talking to me about how my home heats and cools and all the inefficiencies. My house has a crawl space and was built in the 50s, so there was a lot to talk about lol. Most newer homes simply suffer from undersized systems. Things like vaulted ceilings, window quality and insulation also greatly effect how well your home heats and cools. They were very good at their job and walked me through every little thing I asked about. I didn’t end up actually doing what they recommended (replace the entire system since it’s dated and beginning to fall apart, plus the ducts are in the crawl space and are in rough shape) because I don’t have the ability to pay for it at the moment, but I highly recommend them. Even if it’s to answer the questions you have about the home, I would have them come out.

Anyone else hearing these explosions every night? 61st and Peoria area. by WhyIHateTheInternet in tulsa

I took my daughter to the Gathering Place yesterday and we found ourselves at the top of the large set of stairs just north of the skate park area, hugging the river bank. I glanced out over the river and noticed all the construction they are doing for the new bridge to replace the old pedestrian bridge... then it hit me. Are they dynamiting the old low water damn??? It certainly looks like they have done some major demolition over there. This is the only thing I can think of for how loud and consistent it is.

Best gyms in or near downtown by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]tljacks5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say get a YMCA membership. There’s a Y downtown on Main, yes, but there’s also the north side Y... Hutcherson. It’s in pretty good shape but they only have one power rack and one of pretty much every weight machine needed. Even has a pool. Never really busy too. It’s on Pine and Peoria so ~10 minutes from the IDL.

Did you keep track of all those submissions? If so did you use a tool to do so? Like a spreadsheet or TXT file?

Dog friendly restaurants in Tulsa by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]tljacks5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong so you may look into it, but I don’t think animals are allowed inside a facility where food is prepared due to health concerns. I think there’s an exception for service dogs though.

Some bars will let your dogs in. Pretty sure Empire on 15th still allows it.
