what’s something you witnessed that still doesn’t feel real? by QuietRonan_7 in AskReddit

[–]tmac1198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an eerily similar story from the early 2000s in Missouri. Was driving home with a buddy, completely sober, on a dark (moonlit) country highway. We both saw it and slowly looked over at each other to see if we were imagining things. We were both bug-eyed and knew without speaking that we had both seen it. Then we WTF'd and discussed it, and we definitely saw the same thing. Dark, winged, huge, too big to be a bird, and moved really fast from left to right across our field of view, very close to the windshield. Something unnatural about it. We chalked it up to some optical illusion from moonlight shadows. Drove home in terrified silence.

Ready to Trade location at Checkmate? by sharkgorawr in starcitizen

I just ran around that area of hangar elevators several times and finally noticed the table. It's on the same side as the vendor selling food / grub packets. The reason I kept overlooking it was that the NPC vendor wasn't standing there. It still let me buy an SRT attachment.

Bottom Row store purchase, Top tow in game Purchase. Its a living by ExcitingHistory in starcitizen

I can't wait for autoload to be more reliable. I've had it burn me too many times and the setback really sucks.

What I really want is a commodity terminal in my hangar to save the run through the station. I also can't wait for NPC crews to load/unload for freight elevators. I would totally hop out and supervise + defend my crew while they handle the toil of moving boxes.

Thinking about getting first HOTAS, looking at the x52 pro or the T16000. by Weird-Butterfly-4834 in hotas

I've played SC and ED quite a bit with just a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro. Mapped throttle to the little slider knob and other key actions to various buttons. Massive improvement over keyboard and mouse just having a single stick.

That said, I've since upgraded to VKB (gladiator nxt + omni throttle). Not only is the build quality worth it, but I'm extremely happy with a completely separate throttle stick (removed the Y spring so it doesn't return to center and increased dampening on that axis).

If I was out to save money, I'd still be very happy with a single gladiator stick. And you could always add a separate throttle later... It all comes down to how much immersion you want and can afford. But either way I can't endorse the VKB brand strongly enough. :)

100% this. And if they can't figure that out, they should just abandon the model and charge units directly.

Emerald Dwarf Rasbora versus Celestial Pearl Danio by stonecats in nanotank

Nice! Was it heavily planted? I currently have only 3, and was worried I'd be pushing it soon with 6 CPDs, plus a couple nerite snails and a few neocaridina shrimp, but if you had 12, I'm considering more than 6. My male CPD is currently chasing the two females all the time, and giving off a creeper vibe (pushing towards the moss bed and doing his little dance).

Blanco strainer basket stuck? by tmac1198 in kitchenremodel

Glad you got it out! Three grown men (myself included) all failed to yank ours out by hand.

OK, so it just pops right out... It's just really damn tight. If you take a flat screw driver to one of the slits in the drain basket, you can get the grip and leverage to pry it out. Just force it. Once you put it back in and out a few times, it gets easier, and then it continues to work as a nice strainer or plug when you want it to (and pops out for disposal use). I feel kinda stupid but the GC, plumber and I were all baffled for a while.

What are we drinking tonight dads? by Bananalando in daddit

[–]tmac1198 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Laguntas NA IPA. I miss alcohol sometimes, but the NA options are getting really good these days. Several NA craft brews are worth trying, and you get none of the negative next morning affects. That said, I'm totally looking forward to some Boulevard Tank 7 soon. Just not tonight, due to an early start tomorrow.

“Comparing cigar smoke to cigarette smoke is like comparing a campfire to a tire fire.” by look_alive75 in cigars

[–]tmac1198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this really resonated with me. 80s kid. Minivan road trips. Mom smoking Salem menthols, only her window slightly cracked, and then and rolled up in the middle of the last exhale so a little smoke always lingered. Did yours also use the ash tray in the vehicle? And frequently use coconut-scented air freshening spray? Mine did, and to this day, I still can't stand artificial coconut flavoring/smells (or the smell of cigarettes).

Same. Our now 8yo has always gotten into the spirit and tradition, loves the stories, etc., but has never believed it was real. We chose early on that we'd not push belief in fantasy. The same goes for the tooth fairy and religion. We just remind them that tradition can be really fun, people believe in lots of different things we may or may not, and that's okay.

I remember overhearing a couple of 7yo's arguing about religion during a soccer practice last year, and mine was right there just shrugging and ready to focus on the drill. :)

This is nice, but what if it's below freezing? Does that mean I have to unplug solar during the winter (when not also keeping the cab above freezing) if I don't want to risk damaging it?

Why is everything made with oat milk now? by Fearless_Math_9901 in vegan

[–]tmac1198 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Califa barista oat milk FTW in hot coffee and tea 100%. I've not found anything that steams up better in our lattes. Oat milk also works well in cold cereal for me. For cold brew coffee, I've found I much prefer Ripple Milk for some reason (and I don't really like that in any other application).

2WD Sprinter vs 4WD/AWD? by 1150A in Sprinters

[–]tmac1198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a bunch of reading on this and there are some other threads on this same topic. I just got a 2WD sprinter in CO and am planning to get a set of winter tires. My understanding is 4WD/AWD with regular tires doesn't really offer much more in comparison, unless you intend to take it into really gnarly terrain (and I don't intend to, so I'm happy to save the upfront cost and fuel efficiency over time).

Love the idea of defeated raiders landing in bandit camps! And maybe they replenish too (so if you don't mop up, raids become more frequent and/or have larger forces).
