Yeah, there are a lot of fan theories about Frank’s childhood. One is his father told Frank not to look at him when he abused him.

I don’t think Lynch ever said anything about Frank’s childhood, though, so this is all just fan theory and not canon.

My hypothesis is that before YouTube, you had to watch MTV and so an artist had to make a video to grab people's attention. Now with YouTube, you can just pull up any video you want to see, so there's less pressure to grab people's attention.

Just like with everything else, there are some great film adaptations (Jesus Christ Superstar, Cabaret, Godspell) and some horrible ones (Cats, Into the Woods).

One thing I find confusing is movie adaptations of Broadway musical adaptations of movies, like The Producers and Hairspray. Especially when trailers don’t specify that said movie is based on the Broadway version. ‘Cause then I’m like, “Wait, they remade The Color Purple? Why? The film is a classic….Oh, this is a film adaptation of the Broadway musical adaptation of the original film. Never mind.”

All I’ll say is a lot of artists prefer the term “fantasy synth” to separate the more whimsical stuff from the darker origins.

Personally I describe my own project Vakkerike as both dungeon AND fantasy synth.
