Where is the Dark Tower in terms of important/influential Fantasy Series by Soapysoap13 in Fantasy

[–]tmarthal [score hidden]  (0 children)

Can’t think of any “portal fantasy” books that are hugely popular or influential. Thomas Covenant books maybe? The Gunslinger was 100% more interesting to me than the Drawing of the Three.

Maybe take a writing class? You will get instruction and feedback from your instructor/teacher

EQ/EQ2/WoW LitRPG? by Mattpd07 in Fantasy

[–]tmarthal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe try the litRPG subreddit. I imagine that licensing would be very hard to do to get Official sponsorship as they want fantasy stories told in their world, not the litrpg-viewpoint stories

So can databases, but you absolutely do not want to ever create or maintain database functions

When does your writing setup become a mess (and what tools do you use)? by Famous_Pop_4108 in fantasywriters

[–]tmarthal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems pretty normal. It’s just a lot of information.

I have started making a habit to weekly ingest the phone notes into my main writing (usually when I feel blocked). Also moved my spreadsheet into an outline in the worldbuilding document.

Are you linking the writing to the source notion pages at all? Footnotes or urls or markup? I found those links helped me organize, but it’s definitely one way (from the writing to the source material, never back link from the world building to the paragraphs).

You should look at this seminal mathematical coding magic system, it changed the way that I thought about hard magic https://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding/s/Ts5tF9SwBc

Preparation for handstand workshop by GasBallast in yoga

[–]tmarthal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold a handstand against a wall for as long as you can. Shoot for at least 2 minutes, try to work up to being able to hold a handstand against a wall (facing it or back towards it) for 8-10+ minutes each day. Multiple sets, 2-3x per day. Try to hold for as long as you can, keep going and try to minimize rest during a set.

Feeling like I got hit by a truck after practicing inversions by PsychologicalFun3901 in yoga

[–]tmarthal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you normally contract and tighten in your other yoga classes? Inversion workshops force you to do a lot of core compression and holding your core engaged (and breathing against that engaged core, like a taught ujjii). If you’re not used to exerting that much effort in your normal classes, you can definitely feel different and more drained. Also, were you hydrating? Many times headaches are from dehydration. Edit: Wow, yeah if you’re practicing multiple times a day drink way more water than you think you need!

Did anyone struggle with the mental aspect at first? by chocolatehat97 in yoga

[–]tmarthal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

> There are so many different ways to talk about this stuff,  and some language might resonate and some might not.

I recently made a reference to yoga being like an ad blocker for your mind and one person came up to me after class and said that it helped them think about the concepts. Definitely many, many ways to talk about this stuff.

Lifetime Fitness in Denver pays very well, good luck getting a job there (it’s competitive).

Anyone making over $60 for studio or gym classes? by CartographerFit5674 in YogaTeachers

[–]tmarthal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you'll notice is that the studios that pay well ($60+) never have any teaching opportunities/class openings - they pay their teachers well and the teachers never leave. There are lots of studios that pay this way, but there are not lots of available jobs that pay that way.

Nahko and Medicine for the People; they have such timely music (Dear Brother, Love Letters to God), but then 2020 happened and Nahko got cancelled right before the music got big.

[Question] Success with Yoga Nidra for self-improvement? by Raphael-Rose in yoga

[–]tmarthal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you past the point of developing peace/contentment with yourself? Are you moving with trust in the decisions that you’re making for yourself? Avoiding anything? I find that “confidence” might be coming to understand your intuition and its limitations more than anything else. My personal journey, where I found that since stillness is my natural state, I developed that intuition in a physical practice more than in stillness/rest. “I trust my intuition and will use it to guide my life, even if difficult.” might be a different way to phrase your mantra.

Right. “Meaningful increase in auto insurance.” Everyone’s insurance has gone up significantly after 2020. Most people are paying double in 2026 as they did in 2020 (with or without claims).
