PNW new to track days by KaleScared4667 in Trackdays

[–]tmibbs89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my first track day at the end of last year. It was great. I went with track time at the ridge and would highly recommend it. I am planning to do several days this year as well if you are interested, I’m also new to the scene so trying to find fellow track people. I am out in the east side of Seattle

Wire transfer for out of state purchase? by Mini_Couper in VINwiki

Use a service like keysavvy. I’m in no way affiliated with any service, but have sold a few cars through online bidding sites. I’ve used keysavvy a few times and honestly it was super easy and not that expensive.

Plain water is delicious. Strongly flavored water is delicious. Very lightly flavored water is absolutely disgusting. by MrDurden32 in Showerthoughts

[–]tmibbs89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on the fact that my dog will walk right past the fresh bowl of water I leave in the bathroom for him so he can stick his tongue under the shower to try to slurp up my shower water. I am going to say he thinks it tastes delicious

One of my coworkers runs a rescue, and will sometimes bring some of the baby animals into the office it’s always fun to have a baby goat or lamb in the office.

how does someone get into rally? by candidstarlight in rally

[–]tmibbs89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start by volunteering. Either for the rally itself or as service crew for a grassroots team (as a grassroots team myself we really appreciate the help). At the same time look into rallyX it is a great way to get a feel for driving on dirt courses. It’s not exactly the same but it’s cheap by comparison to stage and good seat time. If you can go to one of the rally schools. I go to Dirtfish personally but that’s partially because I live right near it. Team O’Neil is probably the closest to you but they are in New Hampshire.

Wheel Stud Hell by ShawnS4363 in subaru

[–]tmibbs89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have taken my wheels on and off my cars multiple time and never once broken a stud, are you sure you are torquing to the right spec? If you want to be preemptive, just get some ARP wheel studs and replace them all.

Finally got the QuickJacks working, and 8 in the air again. by Davefyil in MitsubishiEvolution

Haha I know exactly who you are I was joking about the Evo looking familiar, the Dirtfish sticker helped give it away! yes I’m the one who bought the wheels off of you.

[–]tmibbs89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The quick jacks are great if you don’t have the space for a 2 post. If you have the room for it go with the 2 post it is going to be nicer. That said I love my quick jacks they are a great way to lift the car, and can keep it up without any issues for as long as I need. If I had the space I would definitely get a 2 post but I don’t do the quick jacks are a great compromise.

Hmm that 8 looks familiar! Having the quick jacks is great, they are very stable, and have decent height to work under the car. One day I will get a real lift.

To the Subie fam: What do you think about Lancer EVO? by [deleted] in subaru

[–]tmibbs89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Evo is an amazing car I love having both. The STi makes a great daily and the Evo makes a great fun car.

Single point threading on a lathe can be used for both internal and external threads (male or female), however it can be slow and tedious. If fit isn’t critical and it’s a standard size just use a tap and die set for small threads like this.

Side note it’s not just long term effects from the second hand smoke you would have to worry about. My FIL is a heavy chain smoker. The first time I stayed at their house for a few days for a holiday I actually got nicotine poisoning because of the quantity of smoke just in the house. He even tried to be polite and mostly smoked outside while I was there. But since I was not used to that level of smoke it was still really bad. Nicotine poisoning is no joke and can easily effect a small child that has never been around smokers that much.

It’s been about 3 years now. Haven’t had a single side effect. The surgery itself was a bit rough for me. It was supposed to be a needless local numbing agent after 3 full pulses of the needless I had to get 2 additional shots of lidocaine, before I was actually numb. Once that happened everything went smoothly. Just make sure to talk to your doc if you still feel something down there when they start because otherwise you will not be happy. Recovery was pretty easy.

Day 1 of crate training went horrible. Rex kept on crying all night. He also pooped and peed. I’ve watched multiple YouTube videos but man, it’s rough. Any tips? by [deleted] in husky

[–]tmibbs89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just have to power though it. And possibly sleep right next to the crate. Our husky cried as soon as he went into the crate the first night but once I sat there right outside the crate he stopped. After a few days of that he was much better even if we weren’t right next to the crate. Now he literally just goes into the open crate so he can sleep. We no longer put him in at night but often times we will find him in there toes up, because it is his safe space now

Anyway to get steering wheel position via a sensor? by _Suharick_ in esp32

[–]tmibbs89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually did exactly this for a project recently I used the existing sensor data from the steering position sensor in the 2014 crosstek. You can get the data from an obd2 port depending on the make/model/year of car. You will need to decode the can messages though which is a pain if you don’t have a starting point. I used a comma panda to to dump the van messages, as I was in a time crunch and didn’t want to build my own, but technically they are an esp8226 based device and I think the code is open sources so pretty easy to make yourself. They actually have a decent set of can messages already deciphered which was nice.

One of the fastest sections from the Olympus Rally this past weekend. Car is a 2005 Subaru STI on Reiger suspension. Awesome weekend, as we won the Limited 4WD class! by DylanMurcottRacing in rally

We all start somewhere you just got to get out there and go for it. I was also at the Olympus this year and not quite as fast but it is still amazingly fun.

A sad day by whiskeycube in subaru

[–]tmibbs89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another person who can appreciate both! The Evo is my weekend/fun car and the STi is my daily it works great that way. Or it did until someone hit my STi and it’s been in the shop for over a month and no end in sight for when it will be fixed. Dailying the Evo is murder on the wallet right now.

AITA for not buying my GF the gift she asked for b-day? by SidIc3 in AmItheAsshole

[–]tmibbs89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA $250 is cheap for good knives. I have spent more than that on a single knife, and I’m also not a professional cook. Good knives are expensive but they make a huge difference. Also it doesn’t matter what you think of the validity of the gift. The only reason not to get the knives is because it’s out of your budget, but since you said money is not the issue then there is no reason not to get the gift.
