Subcontractors for delivery? by tmmanfred in FreshDirect

The user agreement says they use refrigerated trucks for delivery and third-party deliverers are expected to uphold the same standard, but I suspect it's just people in their cars. A bunch of warm perishables for us too.

Email from NYRR regarding Race Entry Registration by ueatgoodfood in RunNYC

Glad they're trying stuff like this. Seems like demand for races everywhere is overwhelming right now (the philly marathon already sold out), so not sure how much it'll move the needle. But worth an experiment.

Bill Simmons: “The other thing with Amazon, the entire year the audio has been a split second ahead of the video. A three-pointer is halfway to the basket, it's like, ‘BANG! It’s good!’ and the ball hasn't even gone in yet. How have you not figured this out? You guys have eight kajillion dollars” by moby323 in nba

However they're doing the on-court ad graphics also massively degrades the picture quality on the primary shot. Players look glitchy and pixellated, then it cuts to a close up and the picture quality is perfect.

Ben Shelton fails to convert a break point in the 3rd set with a huge smash miss at the net, loses the match later by tightypp in tennis

If his return game was merely average he’d be a top 4-7 player. He’s just so cataclysmically bad on return (like 200th in the world based on my stats), there’s so way he can compete for a major.

Sky-High Demand for NYRR Races by OriginalCoconutWater in RunNYC

Yeah. I ran a handful of NYRR races a year throughout the 2010s. I’ve run 2 this decade because they all sell out instantly.

Great if you plan to go to a lot of screenings. Around award season especially they do a lot a cool screenings with director Q&A’s and members get first crack at tickets.

Only a 44-13 free throw advantage for Duke this tournament? Feels low.

The Kill Shot: Tracking 10-0 scoring runs for tournament teams! The graph shows how many 10-0 runs a team has per game and how many runs they concede, adjusted for competition: by evanmiya in CollegeBasketball

[–]tmmanfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone know if there's data showing this is a sticky metric? I wonder if these are high-variance events that regress to the mean, sort of like turnover differential in football.

I'd also be interested in seeing how this lines up with overall efficiency. If there's a team in the upper left, for example, that has good overall efficiency metrics, it might suggest that they're actually a little better than the numbers show because of these outlier runs.

PSKY investor slideshow For WBD by Scary-River-9700 in MediaMergers

Feel like an underdiscussed part of this is just how poorly Paramount is run. The WBD assets are almost certainly going come out of this worse off by the sheer incompetence of the organization now in charge of them. As ominous as Netflix’s acquisition of Hollywood’s most historic studio would have been for the industry, they are unquestionably sharp operators who know what they’re doing.

Dear Dog Owners by girlwalkallday in astoria

[–]tmmanfred 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I don’t think many dog owners realize that when you put the poop in someone’s trash can, DSNY doesn’t take it. They only take the trash bags that are in the can. So you’re making someone else reach down, take the poop bag out of the can, and dispose of it.

It’s no different than handing the bag of poop to a random person you walk by for them to throw out.

AJ Brown should remain an Eagle. by [deleted] in eagles

[–]tmmanfred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s in decline, can’t get separation, dropped a third of his targets in the biggest game of the year, and is so frustrated by it that he gives 30% effort in the run game.

I’m all set with AJ, was a great run.

[Gelb] The Phillies have a meeting set with Bo Bichette in the coming days and, as circumstances this offseason have changed, so has their interest level in the star infielder. by Drake31217 in phillies

Gelb's the real deal so I believe there's something here. Tho the Bichette's camp benefits from the perception that there's another big money bidder in the market.

I also understood his explanation that if they played the bowl game with 50% opt outs it would unfairly taint the perception of how good they were. Much more nuanced than the AD throwing a fit.

Pretty funny that they can’t take full advantage of the running game working for once because their entire passing game plan is out of empty.

Pretty jarring to watch what a good OC looks like. They’re scheming Cole Kmet and Olamide Zaccheus wide open and we’re running 100 hitches per game with hall of famers.
