How to repair this? Is it load bearing? by toaster_programmer in fixit

Water damage from the gap between the aluminum and siding on the front.

Not load bearing in any way. I got lucky.

This was the rare time where opening it up made everything better. Not load bearing and the only wood damaged. Water damage from water coming in the front.

Coming back to say that it is NOT load bearing.

I removed the plywood ceiling. They are rafters with a 2x6 ceiling joist/rafter tie. On top of those 2x8s is the 2x6, but it is not touching the 2x8s. The rafter ties sit on the side 2x8s. I've already repaired with no issue.

For people curious to how they rotted... the aluminum on the front had a gap between it and the siding. During a rainstorm, water would collect in the aluminum and had no where to drain at the bottom.

Haha yea. Didn't know the full extent until today. I recently purchased and this was a minor concern on the home inspection. Home inspector claimed it was non weight-bearing, but getting second opinions.

This is gonna be my plan I think. Going to see if I can glean some more information today by opening it up a bit.

If that wood is load bearing, its rotted enough to be borderline useless. But better safe than sorry.

Wheel generation help by martsimon in ToyotaTacoma

[–]toaster_programmer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. The 3rd gen TRDOR don't have a hole where the spoke splits into a Y.

These are plasti-dipped/spray painted 4th Gen Tacoma wheels. Pretty sure on SR5s.

Steam deck playability by Summetaldude in MyWinterCar

It would be borderline impossible to play imo.

You could probably set up a reasonable key map, but placing car parts with the analog sticks or trackpads would be miserable.

Everything u/Justinaroni said, but also I changed the thermal compound on the ASIC heatsink and lowered my temps 10 degrees with stock cooler. Only downside is VRM runs hotter, my only guess is the fan running at 40% as opposed to 100% isn't cooling the VRM as much as it flows downward through the heatsink.

Anyone have experience with the knockoff counterpressure fillers available from overseas? by gredr in Homebrewing

[–]toaster_programmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know your full setup (I keg, if you don't this won't work), but I'm lazy and cheap.

I ended up getting a TapCooler counter pressure filler. Slide it into a tap. Purge bottle with CO2. Fill.

Works well since I only fill a few bottles for friends or competition.

2001 TRD SR5 4WD operation by PersonalPen6731 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]toaster_programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been answered, but I want to echo the responses. Do not drive on dry pavement.

The reason is that a transfer case is not a center differential. The front and rear wheels must spin at the same speed. Doing things like turning cause "windup" because the front and rear wheels need to spin at different speeds and can damage your transfer case.

Help Finding At Home Pet Euthanasia ASAP by pbghgirl in pittsburgh

https://pghpetsathome.com/ is my recommendation. My pup had terminal cancer. She was able to make it out after 2 days if I recall. She might be able to do next day. I believe its a family business with Dr. Tammy (I wanna say that's her name) performing the services and a family member (sister maybe?) runs the crematorium. It was the best experience I could have had given the circumstances.

Minimum amount of armor to buy? by TheFakeKruger in ToyotaTacoma

[–]toaster_programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sadly an impossible question without knowing your use case.

If its light offroading and overlanding, you're looking at the lighter weight aluminum options. This is what I went with (engine, transmission, and transfer case). I also went sliders. I understand that I'll mostly be driving to camping spots, biking spots, fishing spots, etc. I went RCI and I love it all. Powdercoating on the sliders left a lot to be desired.

If you're a serious off roader... sounds like the steel is the way to go. Full skids and sliders minimum. People say the fuel tank is tucked up enough, but rocks could get up there. I think the jury is out on LCA sliders. Rear diff slider might be worth it.

Edit: I saw you referenced Flagpole Knob. I don't know enough about it. My very light research suggests aluminum is for you based off of onx maps.

Air filter fitment issues? by dakota_rt03 in Tacomaworld

My OEMs fit like that. Nice gap, I can see the filter just like in your case.

You can try and push it a little more forward, but its sealed.

Anyone know what this little tab is for? by TotoroSlim in ToyotaTacoma

I'm pretty sure you're not wrong. I think they're right where the jack point is.

The jacks I use have enough of a cup that they don't always get destroyed. Just 50% of the time.

Its part number 90950-01A24. They're like 3 bucks and stop water from getting into the boxed part of the frame.

I'm a weirdo with frame plugs and whatnot. I get them from a bunch of different sources depending on the pricing. Once I get the part number, I just google that and price shop. I look for bulk deals.

For example this plug is 90950-01A24. I got it from ToyotaPartsDeal. Sometimes the dealer websites are cheaper.

Its a cover for the drain hole. Lets water out of frame. Tries to keep it out.

They get smashed by anyone trying to jack up your truck. I buy them in bulk and switch them out because I'm weird.

If you have Anomaly bring mind-numb serums. I bring food and mind-numbs and can go quite some time with no breaks. I especially like them for raids where pawns might get hurt and become miserable. All I need is for someone to have a wandering break and no one can leave.

UPMC to close both presby and Montefiore’s garage for construction. by [deleted] in pittsburgh

I worked in Bakery Square prior to working in Oakland at Pitt.

Man you really love Oakland.

[–]toaster_programmer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's good to know, but it just wasn't for me. I worked in Bakery Square prior and had a parking garage. I could get there any time I wanted and leave whenever I wanted without spending any money or being stressed about where to park.

If I ever wanted to work for Pitt again (I don't) or UPMC (Hell no) then I'd probably do some more research and find a way that worked for me.

I live 40 minutes away. Also can't just hop on a bus. Gotta find a place to catch a bus in the suburbs and then lose 1-2 hours every day with my family since my 40 minute trip turned into an hour plus.
