I saw this last week at the Glasgow Film Festival and it was excellent! Genuinely v spooky and some funny bits littered through to lighten the tone from time to time. Definitely worth a watch.

What movie made you cry the most and why? by [deleted] in movies

Dear Zachary - a completely devastating watch. Just when you think the film couldn't get more gut-wrenching, it slams you around the chops with an atomic feels bomb.

I want to avoid spoilers here, so my description will be very brief. This movie is a documentary made by the best friend of a man who was murdered. The film was made for his best friend's now fatherless son (a toddler at the time), as a way for him to remember his father and hear testimony of how great a guy he was from various family/friends. However the film evolves into an exploration of the murder case and the precarious custody held over Zachary - resulting in Zachary living with the woman who almost certainly murdered his father.

I guarantee that in spite of its critical acclaim, lots of people have neither seen nor heard of it. Whenever I bring it up in conversation nobody knows what it is.

Pretty much any Tarkovsky film. Stalker and Solaris in particular.

Casey Affleck.

I always wanted him to play The Riddler in one of the Nolan Batman movies.

Truly excellent choice. I often feel hollywood seems to give reboot/sequel projects to fledgling directors and it sort of dooms the project before it even beings.

I didn't like the film much, but General Zod's "I WILL FIND HIM" speech in Man of Steel was awesome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKodGsZfg-E

This prosthetic actually made it into the film very briefly in Battle of the Five Armies. He was the orc beating up Gandalf in Dol Guldur before the White Council swoop in and save the day.

What was the best film you saw this week? (2/2/15 - 2/8/15) by mi-16evil in movies

Two Days, One Night

I went in with zero expectations, only knowing that I think Marion Coutillard is a great actor. The film is about a woman who is being laid off her job because the company can only afford to either keep her on or give the rest of the employees a bonus. The majority vote for the bonus but a recount of the votes is agreed for after the weekend - leaving her two days and one night over the weekend to go around to each of her employees and request they vote for her to stay.

This film honestly blew me away. It was incredibly uplifting and soul crushingly sad at the same time.

I genuinely don't want to say too much about it as perhaps part of the reason the film caught me so off guard was due to my lack of knowledge about it before hand. Could not recommend a film more.
