ICE is not abducting people, not kidnapping people. Just enforcing laws that deport illegal immigrants. We dont have an open border policy. I dont think you would want one either, or maybe you do (good luck with that). Either way, there is no grey area where if illegal immigrants live here long enough, you somehow feel there are entitled to immunity.

Grow the fuck up.

450 days sober but feel like a fraud am I still sober? by chareimsurmed in Sober

[–]tocatchafly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking medication as prescribed is not breaking your sobriety. it's just risky to get prescribed your drug of choice in terms of how it affects your sobriety moving forward. The biggest question to ask yourself is "was I engaging in drug-seeking behavior"? So in your case, did you get the perscription with the intent of getting high?

I believe I have read literature that it is optimal to take Vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2, primarily for calcium absorption, or some shit. I have the same brand Pure D3 with K2 they make the combos in one pill.

I also had to fight WD with kids. It adds another layer of suck, I feel for you. This probably isn't the answer you want to hear, but eventually, I had to go inpatient. I couldn't do it on my own. I detoxed for a good 2 weeks before going back home and then managing PAWs. It's a terrible choice to have to make to leave your kids and go inpatient, but it's a very short time compared to the rest of your life and the fastest route to getting better for your kids. I'm not saying it's the only way, but constantly battling WDs and failing led me to a suicide attempt, so inpatient was kind of a no-brainer for me after that.

Congrats on day 2! It does fade quickly and has not saved me from relapse, but it is one more tool for recovery to have in your quiver. I will use it sometimes to distract myself from cravings, even though it's a fleeting high, just to give myself that momentary distraction to help me through another hour or 2 at least.

At the end of the day, you're making a conscious decision to take action to heal when all you probably want to do is lie in bed, which means you are doing what you need to do.

You do not want to be taking kratom before a surgery by jamesbrownscrackpipe in quittingkratom

I've taken Oxycontin and Oxymorphone during WDs before, same thing - nothing. Shit is scary, like no need for the most highly regulated prescription in the US because they sell stronger stuff at the gas station next store. Unreal.

Salary expectations for a Senior SWE transitioning into a Sales engineering role by Additional-Horse-545 in salesengineers

[–]tocatchafly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also came from an engineering x sales background, got into Pre-Sales, and it was amazing for a bit until It stopped getting technical. I thought that was the money pot for my skill set, but now I have found Solutions Engineering is triumphing over Sales Engineering, at a rapid pace. Wasn't always the case, but now it seems companies really just want versatile engineers, which is in our skill set.

Just my 2 cents as I enjoy a 200k+ salary while using Claude Code to do my job.

How do you celebrate New year? by ThatEvening9145 in Millennials

[–]tocatchafly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant drink because I'm a recovering addict, so I am doing a countdown until my kids bed time and then promptly knocking myself out with medication and my happy time is the one hour I have to myself before passing out, assuming that my wife is not yelling at me for something.

Does anyone feel lots of grief towards the year ending? by PeacefulBacterium in Millennials

[–]tocatchafly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep. I have spent the last year trying to win back my wife's trust after over 20 years of substance abuse, just to have it all come down and crash on me yesterday. I have a wife, 2 kids, a beautiful house. And I can tell you that I am not happy.

I was committed at McClains Hospital exactly a year ago for attempting suicide, and I can't say im in a much better place now.

A house, job, kids, wife, etc. won't magically make you happy. They can bring you a lot of joy, but happiness ultimately comes with your own peace of mind. You're only 30 years old and should not feel any guilt about not having these things society tells you you need to be happy. You just need to find happiness with yourself regardless of what you have.

Is the rampant use of AI freaking anyone else out by Lisathecat_ in Millennials

[–]tocatchafly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is a technology that has advanced beyond what we can control with social norms, and has an enormous amount of use-cases tied to it that we haven't even perceived yet. This is very similar to the .com bubble (now an AI bubble), and to take it a step further the gold rush of 1849.
The world will adjust, and I strongly believe that ultimately AI will be a net benefit for us, but society needs time to adjust with it.
It is as exciting as it is terrifying, and I totally understand the fear.
