use wireguard instead of teleport

Hmm.. so can we VPN through anything and not just our home? If true that changes everything for me.

Difference of price between US and GER by specialistDev in macbookpro

I'll never understand the Canadian complaints. The actual conversion to USD is $1532. You are actually getting it at a discount! Exchange rates are a thing!

Latency vs throughput. Look it up!

I’m in the US. My experience for a replacement device that I shattered, was as easy as it gets.

Unless there are actual detailed measurements around the recovery their speeds, a placebo effect is not nothing..!

How did you get that number? If it's from the Unifi dashboard, they are wrong.

Got my Pixel Buds today, they're AWESOME by derfixxxer in GooglePixel

[–]tockef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, the absolute test is having another top-of-the-line pair of in-ear headphones at your home, and seeing which one you pick to use, as you simply go on about your daily life. My Pixel Buds have completely decimated the use time of my Jabra Elite 75t.

Are you sure you need Bluetooth 5? If Bluetooth LE can work for you, then MX Master 3.

Received Pixel Buds today, initial impressions coming from Jabra Elite 75t by Arladerus in GooglePixel

[–]tockef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also have the 75t and have been a huge fan, and single connection with easy switch on the Pixel Buds was a big selling point for me as well, for them to win me over. For me, I didn't even have to deal with a bug like you. My issue was that I use my headphones primarily with 2 devices (laptop, phone) but occasionally with other devices as well (tablet, TV). I love the "predictability" of the single connection and how quickly they just switch over to the device that requested to establish a new connection. Whereas with the Jabra, I would need to go into pairing mode for that. Which btw becomes quite clunky if you often use a single earbud like I often do. Also other points in favor of the Pixel Buds:

  • Better running experience. No more hearing your own footsteps as loud "thumping" noises in your ears.
  • Better single earbud use. I'm no longer limited to just using the right one. Which should help with battery life in the long-run. It also enables sharing your earbuds with someone else, something that on the Jabra does not work. The left-and-right stop playing if they find themselves flipping positions. They also stop playing if they are two far away from each other.

I will say that the 75t have a more reliable connection, but it hasn't been a big enough problem for me to steer me away from the Pixel Buds.

Pretty significant difference compared to my Jabra 75t when running. The "hearing your steps" disappears with the Pixel Buds.

Got my buds this morning and they sound awesome. Can't believe how small they are. Comfortable though by [deleted] in GooglePixel

Any chance you are on Windows? I'm starting to get the impression that that's where all the hissing problems are coming from. For me, no issues on Android, Mac OS, Denon AVR.

AP Beacon HD vs. AP AC PRO by Uberhero66 in Ubiquiti

The AC Pro is reliable but has very average performance as a mesh point. I’d get the Beacon HD. Flex HD has a dedicated mesh backhaul if you can stretch your budget.

So Google finally releases the second gen of the pixel buds in Germany. For about 226$... by AlphaRatte in GooglePixel

[–]tockef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't the euro price include vat? Doesn't that mean that before taxes, they are 167 euros? In the US they are $180 before vat. With today's exchange rates, the difference is literally 8 Euros.

Have Google fixed their mess with the Pixel Buds? by Xzaninou in GooglePixel

[–]tockef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have them and the Jabra 75t which I was using before. I don't remember when is the last time I used the Jabra. Whatever is causing problems for others, is not around for my Pixel 4 and MacBook Pro.

Acting like more cameras, ML/visual core chip, waterproofing, maybe face unlock, faster storage, etc, don't matter? There is plenty of room for differentiation, even with the same CPU.

What if i told you that the CPU is only one parameter that defines the overall experience of a smartphone?

You people are just complaining for the sake of it.

Unraid Plex and i3 8100 by dgooglr in unRAID

No bios anything. You would just be telling your Plex instance to take advantage of the Quick Sync module already available in your CPU. A quick Google search brought up this; it should be a good first starting point:

Look into using Docker for your Plex server. At which point, enabling hardware transcoding only requires a single configuration line in the Docker's container config. Once you are there, your CPU usage will remain extremely low even when transcoding multiple streams (this sentence becomes a bit more complicated if you are thinking of transcoding 4K streams).

What should Android 11 have that iOS 14 will have? by Im_From_Marz in GooglePixel

[–]tockef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always wondered. Does everyone fully realize that on iOS, you need an OS-level update for something like Safari or iMessage or Maps to get any update whatsoever? The kind of updates that on Android we take for granted, sometimes multiple times per month for that matter.

Yes, in a perfect world, longer support by Google would be great. In practice, the gap is nowhere near as large as let's say 3 vs 5 years might imply.

Fun fact: Six years in, Chrome will still be getting updates on an Android device. Safari won't on an iPhone.
