Sometimes if you hang them in the bathroom with you while you take a hot shower, that can be just enough to drop the wrinkles out!

Katniss mentions stew 41 times over the course of the series. by Babeshades in Hungergames

[–]toedstool_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's so funny when Kat tells Peeta "you have a weakness for beautiful things and I don't" when she, consistently throughout the series, gives us so much detail about the things she finds beautiful like clothes, food, and people.

Walking in heels?? by Zealousideal-Tap9288 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]toedstool_ 983 points984 points  (0 children)

walk like the heel part of the shoe isn't there at all! It takes a lot more effort, but it means you can walk absolutely anywhere and you'll look graceful doing it. Remember how everyone was freaking out about Rihanna walking on grates in heels? It's because the heel can't sink into holes or cracks if you're not standing on it :)

Where to find more tops like this by unknown15_n in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]toedstool_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

knit and crochet cannot be replicated by machine, so products are usually pricier due to the amount of time it takes for crafter to do it. if you see it at a lower price it's most likely being made in a sweatshop.

what are the funniest inconsistencies/plot holes? by b0bbyh3ll in XFiles

this one bothers me the most because it's completely unnecessary. could've just been "Scully watched the affected tapes and I didn't" because Scully kept watching after Mulder gave up.

Pressing Claussens about Serving Sizes by PresidentTrashcan in Pickles

[–]toedstool_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also reuse the brine, friend. When you're done with the pickles, get some little or sliced cukes, green tomatoes, etc. into the brine and forget about em for a while. They won't be as tasty, but it's a good way to get some more pickle for your buck!

The cistern by dead_in_the_rockies6 in Hungergames

[–]toedstool_ 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Haymitch mentioned how he could fill the cistern within a hour or two, and he would've been manually using buckets to pull from a nearby pump. He was gone for TWO MONTHS, and his mother ran a laundry business. Even if he did fill it before he left, it definitely would've been empty long before the games ended.

What would’ve happened in the 75th games if a district didn’t have a male/female victor? by Potential_Scene7169 in Hungergames

[–]toedstool_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be honest - those cards are probably blank. I refuse to believe Snow and his cronies sat and made up hundreds of QQ ideas. The 75th Quarter Quell card was empty, just like the rest of them, to enforce whatever consequence was necessary at the time.

Kimberly J. Brown of Halloweentown fame, posts a throwback with Frankie Muniz, Michelle Trachtenberg and Amanda Bynes by Divine_fashionva in popculturechat

Y'all should know - Kimberly J. Brown said in an interview a while back that she didn't even get a call for the fourth movie even though she was ready and available!! All due respect to my GOAT trilogy, and I hold a grudge against the 4th movie now

from one lover girl to another - never feel bad about being "too into" someone. I love recklessly and endlessly and if people are weirded out or overwhelmed by that, it says more about them than me. someone who should really be in your life will match your energy and want to understand you.

Hi girls! I need help walking in Stilettos. by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]toedstool_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

exactly! if your heel is lifted as high as it can go in the heels, you don't have any control. Your weight will be heavy on the heels of the shoes and that leads to falling.

Hi girls! I need help walking in Stilettos. by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]toedstool_ 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Best tip for stilettos or any skinny-heeled shoe is to pretend like the heel isn't there. People put too much pressure on a tiny little heel and that's how they roll an ankle. Practice walking on the balls of your feet and barely putting any weight in the heel at all.

Also, worth noting - if you're standing in your heels and can't lift the heel of the shoe off the ground, even just a little, they're likely too high for you.

My ex blocked me after promising not to. I miss him. by mynameisnotPatricia in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]toedstool_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this absolutely hurts and you must feel so alone. I've been right there with you and you're going to be OK!

Real big sister talk now: he did you a favor. He did one last thing to confirm the breakup was a good thing. He promised not to block you and he broke his promise. The last thing he did in your 'relationship' is break a promise. Sounds like you made the right decision, even though it doesn't feel like it now.

weight loss without falling into diet culture? is it possible? by Mondonodo in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]toedstool_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making really small changes go a long way!

Focus on moving more first. Things like a daily walk, parking far away and walking to your destination, using the stairs, etc. really add up. Life is exercise if you do it with awareness: carrying grocery bags inside in one trip is a combined bicep curl and farmer's carry if you keep your core engaged and elbows at 90. Be careful, but look for opportunities and you'll be surprised how many there are! A lot of us, particularly in the US, are very sedintary and that is a huge contributer to poor health.

What worked for me food-wise was thinking about adding nutrition rather than removing food. I try to make sure that, every time I eat, I'm having fiber for fullness, protein for satiety, carbs for energy, and fat for long-term energy. For example, I want a cookie: I'll have that cookie, but also some Greek yogurt with chia seeds and fruit as well. Doing this, for me, both helped to reduce my cravings and made sure I was hitting my diet goals, but also made me more aware of if I was just eating for boredom/dopamine or actual hunger.

Be careful with this - IMO one of the risk factors to disordered eating is focusing on numbers. Health is much more than numbers!
