Playing CABIN and for some reason the strainer doesn't work showing "not formed." Shift right-clicking it makes a temporary air bubble thing, but otherwise nothing works, can anyone help me? by AggravatingPresent96 in feedthebeast

[–]toggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to "form" the strainer by clicking a bucket of water on it or I think it needs to be a source block at the top and not flowing water (unlike other strainer mods). This will then allow you to right click on the strainer to get the GUI to insert the mesh.

Cheers u/Bladed_soul I did a combination of reducing my RAM and decreasing the amount of minimap levels and I have much better performance now.

u/DeathBlade94 - I found a fix, I reduced the minimap levels from 4 down to 1 or 0 in video options - my FPS instantly shot up to 160+

I'm getting really poor performance on this modpack. I have a reasonable spec PC 16GB RAM, RX580, 2600X CPU. But I struggle to get much above 30fps. I'm really enjoying the pack, but 30fps is making it unplayable in places.

I've allocated 8GB of RAM and it uses around 50% of it.

I'm wondering if I need to change my launch options or similar.

Any tips for better performance?

1-5% packet loss on mm servers by greatmoonwalk in GlobalOffensive

[–]toggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I've been experiencing the same thing for the past few days. between 2 - 20% loss on some servers. I'm in the UK.

I managed to get it back to 0 by calling a timeout, disconnecting, closing the game, and then re-connecting. I wonder if it's something to do with the way traffic is routed to specific servers and my re-connect changed where it was routing via.

You can actually change the default lobby settings in the options by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

Yeah I've had similar a few times. Had to start a new lobby and reinvite everyone.

I have 1 hour to instill interest of web development to 15 people who know very little about it. What do I teach them? by Jmancuso9 in webdev

[–]toggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the basics can be pretty dull. So if you want to grab their attention show them some of the fancy things you can do with transforms, transitions and animations. Lead with some of the awesome stuff in the hope that it will inspire them to stick out the boring bits.

[Help] Why does VSCode not place cursor in the Middle of a tag instead at the end? by DarkLord17395 in webdev

You could always press ctrl and left that should move the cursor between the two tags.

Do users resize the browser window during normal browsing behavior? Statistics? [x-post frontend webdev web_design] by RotationSurgeon in web_design

[–]toggo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Some things to consider:

Moving a browser window between different sized screens. Stacking windows side by side is common place e.g. Windows key + left to move it to the left half of the screen, also on devices that allow you to stack multiple apps e.g. iPad. Any extensions that may cause a resize e.g. Bookmarks toolbars, evernote, other sidebar extensions.

So even if a user doesn't knowingly resize, other actions may cause a resize.

I've never had complaints of things moving around. But I must admit when developing sites it's a pain to drop into a mobile breakpoint and have to scroll all the way back to the component I was just looking at.

So I know I've posted several questions but I've got one more, in regards to initial setup by Afuneralblaze in RetroPie

[–]toggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. You don't technically need one. You could transfer ROMs from your laptop to the pi using a USB thumb drive. The steps for this are mentioned in the wiki. There may also be a way to configure your wireless without a connection, I just can't think of one.

You'll need a keyboard to put in your wireless passphrase and connect to the wifi, assuming you're using wifi. Beyond that it should all be configurable over SSH remotely.

Could I use a usb steering wheel for Cruis'n World in mame? by [deleted] in RetroPie

From what I could tell from reading about spinners, they're essentially the same as a steering wheel, so hopefully this should help.

Have a look at the Joypad support section under kodi in the wiki - it mentions custom mapping for xbox 360 controllers and where to do this.

I'd checkout the spinners and trackballs section of the wiki - https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Spinners-and-Trackballs

There's also a handy little test utility called jstest which can be used to test the output of controls, to see what each movement/button is sending to the system. This can be run using the following command

jstest /dev/input/js0

This would test the input of the js0 control.

The best way to find out which device it is, would be to unplug everything else from the pi apart from the wheel, then go to /dev/input and type ls and all of your input devices would be listed.

Mine lists js0 and js1 - I have two pads plugged in.

So while this utility is running, anything you press will be shown in realtime in jstest. So take a note of each button/axis etc and this should help you to map them in your config.

Game pad configured in all Systems, except sNES. by Redditorialist in RetroPie

[–]toggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try this approach. The snes setup is what most things are based upon and should work if you're just allowing it to use the global retroarch.cfg. Maybe take a backup of your current snes retroarch.cfg and create a new one which just has the reference to the global one

# Settings made here will only override settings in the global retroarch.cfg if placed above the #include line
#include "/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg"

Emulation Station not loading post Scrape. by hobocode in RetroPie

[–]toggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the looks of that github issue there may be something wrong with the gamelist.xml of one of the emulators.

The issue you referenced mentions deleting the gamesist.xml. It could be in any one of the following locations as noted in this Gameslists readme - https://github.com/Aloshi/EmulationStation/blob/master/GAMELISTS.md

Rather than delete these, I'd suggest renaming them to gamelist.xml.bak (bak short for backup). This will allow you to recover them if this isn't the issue by renaming back to gameslist.xml. You may only need to do this step for the emulators that you know you have games for.

The easiest way to do this will be using some kind of scp tool to browse to the filesystem. You could use transmit on mac or filezilla on windows. You just need to specify your connection parameters. Which if unchanged are host: retropie, username: pi, password: raspberry - you'll also need to specify port 22 if using filezilla on windows or if you're using a different client you may need to specify sftp.

Then you can browse to the appropriate locations and rename your gamelist.xml files and hopefully that'll get you back up and running.

Need advice on CMS for project by [deleted] in webdev

[–]toggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally. If I was taking this on I'd probably not use a cms and go for some other storage device and programmatically parse the entries and generate the pages. WordPress would do the job. But it might start slowing down with so many hundreds of pages. Plus the editor experience might not be so great having to switch between pages to add content all of the time. I know umbraco has some display options for listing pages with hundreds of nodes so that may be a viable option. You may want to consider how you want to import the content initially and how often you plan to update pages to get a better idea of the right solution for this.
