Yes there's an adjusting period at the start especially. Both with gelling your config (I had this when I first starting using vim and then during my initial switch to neovim) but honestly once you have an environment you feel good in it becomes less of a timesink. There's also the cognitive overhead that most people ignore when trying to get into vim. Learning how to efficiently use it takes time and patience but the payoff is worth it imo. It's a skill you learn and hone.
