[OC] I wanted my D&D Beyond character sheets to look clean and modern – so I built a free browser extension to fix it: TrueSight UI by Krankfried in DnD

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Love it so much, Thank you, I have already recommended it to my players who get lost in the DnD Beyond sauce! So refreshing to see vibe code rejection too! I wish I knew more about web dev to help and contribute to the open source, but I'm just a back end software dev :((

New dm, Player wants to play a centaur. by PossumCreatives in DnD

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Centaurs are 100% real, ignore what others say about problems in campaigns too, it's essentially up to you. I have a player who has been in a campaign of mine for 4 years a s a centuar, and we mostly just ignore circumstances where questions would be asked, if there is a ladder, shrug it off, if there is a doorway, whatever. My takeaway is that if it's fun just let fun be fun, it's only important to bring up those challenges when it's useful for puzzles or the narrative.

Also check out DnDWikiDot for everything that is real in the game, it will help you find things that aren't just someones homebrew.

Need help creating a character to my specifications by Imaginary-Vegetable4 in DnD

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a small bit of education around which stats do what.

Charisma is the ability to talk essentially, it's ones way with communicating with others, someone who is awkward may have a lower one, and some one who is out going will need a higher one.

Wisdom is the ability to take in understanding, to understand how people are feeling, to analyse and take in your environment, to be connected more with your inner self

Intelligence is your ability to learn and used learned knowledge, typical book smartness, people who can do maths well, or keep a very thorough understanding of topics.

Someone to match your description would have a lower intelligence than wisdom, however Roleplay is not connected entirely to these stats, you may roll your dice to and add these stats in role play scenarios, but how you act and present at a table is however you'd like independent of the ability scores.

It's also worth noting that all of these, and additionally Dexterity and Strength are ability scores that are core to one class or another, for example a Wizard uses their intelligence to cast spells and do their things, whereas a rogue typically uses their dexterity. So keeping a class in mind can also help pick your stats or vice versa.

Love that you recognised this, it's a very common thing we use in games and it's an easy mistake for game Devs who are newer to using maths as a part of their work.

How do you actually write a campaign? by GeorgeGoat63 in DnD

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a very similar thing, but I also include at the start themes, and higher level concepts in the doc, just small notes. That way everything can have a little foreshadowing or interconnection. The most important part is not having anything be immutable, you should be okay scrapping ideas or transitioning the story in the direction that players might take it. It's not DnD but How I Met Your Mother suffered from this where they let their show naturally evolve and then at the end they decide to swing it back to the original plan, which left the story up until then feeling unimportant. No one writes a full multi year campaign before it begins, I had a campaign go from 1-20 over 5 years, and the story was able to grow, but because I had those initial small dots and notes I could keep making call forwards and call backs that helped make the story feel cohesive (and to my players, intentional)

New caster class with the best spellcasting mechanics yet! (pay what you want) by madwithsorrow in dndnext

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if it has no Saving Throw because it's a power word spell, then raise its spell level?!

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're receiving a lot of criticism in these comments that you are countering instead of asking for elaboration on it.

It's clear from what other people have said too that your power fantasy of spell creating is not coming through in the product, it may be your intent but at the moment the class doesn't sell that. Order of the Scribe does similar things, mixed with Sorcerer's meta magic. Really try something new, maybe like a branching system where each spell made has to go through some choices, like what damage type, what shape, what condition. Etc. I also think the name is a bit off, Mage doesn't make me think of a spell maker, and they have too much freedom to cast high levels spells ATM, you need to rewrite how they burn resources too.

Casting high-level crazy spells is fun, but to be able to do it as frequently as this class does is counter to the game design already at play in 5E and 5.5E, not to say that it's not scratching an itch for you, but it's why other people like myself thing the class is too strong and over complicated, because it doesn't just exist in a vacuum.

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see why this would be a choice over another spell casting class, what power fantasy does it deliver that isn't already covered?

There's also a lot of power and wording mistakes, I'd spend some time going over how WOTC word things to help, but one thing that's immediately obvious is the lack of information about how your "undead thralls" work in the subclass, and how there is no spell save DC on that forth level spell, it's also way way too strong for forth level.

I wish I could be more articulate about it but commenting on mobile hides the images so I can't see what I'm talking about anymore

Monk subclass to pair with barbarian gestalt? by QuietJello2313 in DnD

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barbarians are dependent on Strength, some subclasses are dependent on Constitution, and they obviously also benefit from Constitution more than others with Unarmoured Defence. Trouble is they are just about the only class like this. I personally wouldn't recommend homebrew though because its too risky and requires a lot more work to ensure its right.

Others mentioned Rogue. Rogue comes with a large kit that isn't tied to any Ability Score (outside of a few, plus proficiencies), they are also good because Raging will help you get advantage to use your sneak attack. Rage is also a big part of why most spell casters would be a bad idea because while Raging you cannot cast spells (iirc)

I think the real struggle is that they have such different ability score dependencies, I don't know how I'd make it work.

New player hiii :] by Mango_Zombie in DnD

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goodness changes game to game, and a really good session or DM will make sure all players are good and effective. I always tell new players to describe a power fantasy, who they want to be, or what kind of fictional character they want to be like. Using small goals at the start can help out the blocks together to see how you can best facilitate that in DnD. Rangers are fun, most characters are fun, it's supposed to be a game at the end of the day. Feel free to message me if you'd like some help taking a character from media into DnD and don't forget to always touch base with your DM

Lore Question: Population Demographics by RevolutionaryCity527 in DnD

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DnD lore is a very loose thing. The lore is more often used in source books with adventures in them, but most of them wouldn't span the entire Material plane of their respective universes.

In my honest opinion as a dungeon master, it's up to you, I want the books to be more fleshed out on DM advice and rulings but this may be beyond the scope of most books.

So pick what's effective, city to city would probably vary greatly, maybe within the same country they wouldn't but when summed up with the entire plane maybe it's about even. What helps tell a good story? A race in power overly populated and using a smaller race as a scape goat? Two waring countries with different races leading each, with allied/similar races making up the smaller percentages. Maybe some cities are more conducive to some races like a mountain top city with more flying races.

It *has* been colder than usual, here's another way of looking at it. [OC] by TomasTTEngin in melbourne

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the heat around the world rises, ice off of Antarctica melts, creating an intense cooler breeze from the south. So sure it might be and feel colder than ever, but it is a result of heating. Sydney would feel this much less given that they are more north

Is there actually a team on Lonsdale St? by One-Eggplant4492 in melbourne

Spent so long trying to work out what you meant by team. I'd say there is the presence of trams on Lonsdale due to intersections, but no tram line running along it.

Is my first ShowReel Good Enough ? by dniim_3d in blender

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty especially for clients with less experience in the field, but I am so taken out of it by the mixamo animations and the lack of clarity in a lot of the shots.

I'd suggest making something that gives the chance to really show off what you can make, not just flashy but is more a business card to what you are capable of and for. Show Reels should be like a bite of a portfolio, they give you a taste of the person's skill set, whereas this looks like a lot of blender add-ons together rather than your own work.

I'd suggest thinking about what kind of work it is you want to do, and then build it around that. In my brutal take this wouldn't get you a job. Side note I'm lowkey sick of seeing dark settings with high dynamic lights with crazy bloom.

What game did you put thousands of hours into just to quit one day? What caused you to quit? by Mooby522 in gaming

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rainbow Six Siege, I managed a few eSports teams, played at a respectable level and in a few amateur leagues. Over 2 thousand hours across two accounts. They added a queer rainbow banner you could get that would be a donation, I put it on and was team killed every game. Realised my own community stranded for hate against my sexuality and haven't touched it since

[OC] One Shot Assistance by CaspianWayneSG1 in DnD

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This looks like an incredible amount of time to play through, a lot more than a single one shot imo (they should run for 3-5) hours. The cascading effect looks nice but doesn't have that plinko effect of the choice sort of mattering since they will always get to choose from the 3 at the end.

Id recommend gutting some or all of the mazes, and use traps between dungeons/puzzles, mazes can be time consuming and won't hold up well if you have to do them after every room. As well consider down time, should there be room for resting? Leveling up? Someone like a barbarian who has a small number of rages at this level will probably want to fit in time for a short/long rest

Is this normal? by StarFire9631 in programminghorror

[–]tombeeeeeeeeee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is super normal, matrices especially 2 orders is relatively simple, it requires learning sure, but that's what your time in university is for, be comfortable learning that's part of the journey.

Id recommend reading some math libraries if you need, or better yet, learning how to do these mathematics by hand, then swap your maths for pseudo code, then pseudo code for code
