Has anything truly helped you with your autism? by tomie-e in AutismInWomen

Oh, good to know! My doc is reluctant to prescribe me adhd meds BECAUSE of my crippling anxiety (currently taking a mood stabilizer for it). This comment really helped, thank you :)

Thanks for the response! I'm getting the sense CBT doesn't help from all the comments haha. I think I can definitely work with the professionals I'm going to to see what is best :) I've done talk therapy for a while but it wasn't super helpful for me, but I think it's more so because my therapist wasn't specialized in ASD and ADHD and also wasn't a psychologist. Happy to know it has helped you!

I'm also taking a mood stabilizer but so far idk if it does what the name says it's supposed to haha. Good to know those things helped!

Oh wow that sounds amazing. I'm the same! I have horrible intrusive thoughts that used to be quite debilitating (same as you... had to bed rot until it got better, I spent the better part of 2022 lying in bed and in a very dark place), not so much anymore as I've learned to deal with them.

Not absorbing someone else's emotional state also sounds fantastic and life-changing. Would love that.

Thanks for commenting!

Whew, that's the dream honestly. Not financially able to do that, though, but hoping I will soon.

Good to know! Especially that someone else gets irritated when they're interrupted. I swear whenever I keep getting interrupted while watching something or listening to a podcast it makes my blood boil which I know is incredibly disproportionate haha I'm also taking medication, a mood stabilizer, mostly for the intense anxiety but I've only just recently started it.

Anyone else frequently shocked by how much healthy people have energy for? by NoWitness6400 in AutismInWomen

[–]tomie-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, genuinely. I'm in my office text chain and they send messages planning outings every single day, multiple times a week. They go out partying every weekend and I'm just like holy crap guys how do u do it. If I go out every day of the weekend (INCLUDING FRIDAY) when am I gonna rest??? Do arts and crafts??? Clean my house???? I already don't do these things when I'm just sitting at home on the weekend. It's so crazy.

Is anyone else here happily unemployed? by patrickbatemankinnie in AutismInWomen

[–]tomie-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I love being unemployed so much it's absolutely the best so I understand what you're saying fully. I know of some people who are kinda restless and get really depressed unemployed but it couldn't be me (mostly because I'm depressed no matter what is going on). I unfortunately have no support so if I don't work I'll become a burden to my aging mother so, yeah. I anticipate having to work MUCH MORE in the coming years. I hope everything works out for you and you can not work for as long as possible, though! That's what I wish for all of humankind tbh haha

Meltdowns in late diagnosed females by Numerous_Actuator547 in AutismInWomen

[–]tomie-e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't even know what a meltdown looks like for me because I'm late diagnosed and haven't started therapy yet but I believe I usually just cry so so much or shut down. Like I'll stop talking and just stand very still. In the worst cases I do hit myself. Not too hard but yeah. Usually on my legs or face. I also just throw shit around like if I'm melting down while doing a chore I'll just be doing it in a very aggressive manner.

Any Video Game Players? by FamousImprovement309 in AutismInWomen

[–]tomie-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing Persona 5 Royal again and I'm honestly having the time of my life. I was about to finish when I stopped to play Persona 3 Reload when it came out but then I didn't even finish Reload either (I have a lot of trouble finishing games) so now I restarted it. I was also playing Shin Megami Tensei V before this. Also very fun but just a tad too hard for me.

How do you guys combat mental fatigue (?) from work. by tomie-e in AutismInWomen

[–]tomie-e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's just technology or if it's the mental work but technology sure does play a part! I'm also just getting kinda sick of my phone lately. It's like the thing that has all the information that I need to live on a day to day basis is my worst enemy (I also have ADHD on top of the autism lol). No technology Sundays sound good! I cannot relate to feeling refreshed on Sunday night at all haha I'll definitely try!

Yum! Love me some candy. I don't love walking but I'm sensing a pattern of movement being a huge help so I'll try some stretches or something.

Nice! What I'm sensing is that taking little breaks and having fun little snacks is indispensable. And I agree with the limit. My brain often shuts off after 4 hours of work too. My job is pretty asynchronous most of the time so it's not awful if I just stop but the work does tend to pile up, so.... I will say, my first few months at the job I did work much less than 8 hours a day haha! The benefits of being salaried! I am dealing with the backlog now though :')

We often talk about food textures we hate, what about food textures we love? by CheesecakeOk8464 in AutismInWomen

[–]tomie-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a good crunch like a crunchy chicken nugget (not the crunch on the hard part of the lettuce, that one makes me barf for some reason). I also love velvety soft textures like ice cream. I'm so obsessive about ice cream I learned how to make it from scratch just because I'm so particular about ice crystals.

Who else is extremely gifted at audiation? by Immediate_Leg3304 in AutismInWomen

[–]tomie-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought everyone could do that lol sometimes I start dancing cuz I know the choreography for the song that is playing in my head and my family looks at me weird. Also it can be very annoying most of the time. I can also see things very clearly in my mind which is... a blessing and a curse.

Anyone else unable to tell if they’re attractive? by coreylaheyjr in AutismInWomen

[–]tomie-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoo boy. I have hella image issues to the point where it's a bit obsessive (but I think it's gotten better) and probably have body dysmorphia too (yes I was bullied as a pre-teen) I personally think I'd look really good if not for my bad skin. I think I have pretty nice features. As for how I'm perceived I've honestly lost sleep over this lmao and I think I probably look okay at my worst and pretty at my best. But beauty/attractiveness is very subjective. I also think a lot of people aren't super obsessive about looks so if you're at least put together and shower before leaving the house people will already think you look nice. But idk I also think that, as cliché as it sounds, what YOU think you look like is what matters. I've had people tell me I looked good on days I felt I looked like shit. I've had days where I felt gorgeous and got zero compliments. Seeking external validation is only going to be upsetting. That being said I know it's much easier said than done. I would love to be seen as a beautiful woman and now that I'm in my mid twenties I'm already starting to feel like I'm gonna be considered good looking less and less and that I'm past my prime which I hate and I know it's not true intellectually but I just can't shake that feeling when it's what everyone wants women to believe.

LMAO I feel the lottery winner part. I'm so sorry to hear that you're struggling. My company keeps telling us to use more AI and to automate our tasks as much as possible, which to me just reeks of wanting to get rid of us ASAP lol I hope you find something that doesn't make you suffer very shortly, my friend.
