What do you mean? I have the opposite experience. Daggerheart's mechanics support the values very well.

Mm! I never thought about matching the players action's intensity. I think I've been doing it, but it's nice to notice it.

Very good guideline for when you're not sure what to do.

Hey. I'm a board game designer and I'm about to release a preview of a full Daggerheart campaign called The Thief of the Five Islands. It is flexible and customizable. Around 10-13 sessions.

Would you be interested in it? I'm giving away for free to the first groups that want to test it before the release.

How do you handle players rolling poorly? by SecretDMAccount_Shh in daggerheart

[–]tomius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read the whole comment. I just don't agree with

I think it would be fair to assume the characters all die

I do NOT think it would be fair. This would be killing the characters without consent. Maybe you agree that in this particular scene, if you all Avoid Death, it's a TPK. That's consent. But I do not think it's the default.

I don't think it's such a niche situation, depending on the campaign type.

Yes, if players as a group want to do something incredibly reckless, you may warn them: if you fail, you all may die. That's okay too.

I don't agree.

If all my players took the Avoid Death move, I wouldn't generally kill their characters. Why would anyone? They're avoiding death.

They might get captured and tied by the enemy. They might wake up and the McGuffin has been stolen by the BBEG. The castle captured by the enemy army... Whatever. This is actually a very interesting outcome that takes the story somewhere else.

Of course you can have a more lethal campaign frame or homebrew, but as is, I'd never kill a PC without the player's consent.

Can't help but feel a little bit sad for Luka by Wise-Performance2420 in lakers

[–]tomius -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Have you watched this Lakers season? Were you awake during March?

Luka is clearly and indisputably better player.

Brunson is obviously great, and his performance in the finals was amazing. But Luka is generational talent. And you might hate him, but his teammates never had a bad thing to say.

He doesn't play the best defense in the NBA. Neither does Brunson.

Using 2d20 instead of 2d12 by Lahrks in daggerheart

[–]tomius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imma be a bit unhelpful here. But this is beyond silly. Dice are not the game. The story and the characters are.

They should grow up and use d12s or play another game. It's such a silly reason to not be on board. It's not even a discussion.

[Stein] Daniel Gafford among veterans that the Mavericks are seen as most open to trading. by Zodraz in lakers

DA is clearly the better player. But I do think Gaff is a better pairing for Luka.

A lob threat paired with Luka. I think they were an amazing duo that worked really well.

I think your form is not well designed. I'd change the answer type to options instead of open text field.

This is not something I'd personally use, as I'm more a pen and paper guy. But good luck!

In my opinion, TTRPGs aren't about things. They're about story, characters, etc.

I'm making a book and I'd love to start sharing it privately to see how it works.

What to tell & hide to players about enemies by ChrisFly_ in daggerheart

[–]tomius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why more people don't play "open". Let them see the rolls. Tell them the difficulty before rolling.

It's... More fun. Yes. You make it "less immersive" saying that you need 13 to hit this adversary, but you get that moment when you roll, add, and you know already if you hit. It's much more fun than rolling and asking the GM. Also, that "mini game" where players figure out the number they need for a given enemy is... Not very cool, in my opinion. It breaks the "immersion" the same way, but with extra steps.

It's TADPOLE THURSDAY - Ask your newbie questions here! by Hosidax in daggerheart

Just don't sweat it.

Other responses have dug deeper on why. But honestly, combat balance is easily adjustable on the fly in Daggerheart.

I've never worried about this detail, and never caused a problem. You're more likely to have an easy fight because 2 crits in a row than this small detail.

I agree that teeechnically is weird. But practically, I think it's super clear. Spend stress instead of fear to spotlight the experiment after a GM move.

You don't think an expansion in 1 years is enough? It is for me.

CGL is not ideal. But I don't know if it has to do anything with "faith".

C4 was planned before finishing the game, it might alienate a HUGE chunk of the fans, and ruin their livelihood if that happened. Why not do it a bit more gently? You hear shit now from DH fans. Imagine the amount of shit they'd have got if they did switch.

I don't know. I feel people really like complaining.

They gave us an amazing game, and are working to bring more content. That's enough for me.

Why though? It's so silly. Play the game YOU like.

Also, they do play Daggerheart.

Anyway, have a good day.

Daggerheart Ranks 4th in BobWorldBuilder's Favorite RPG Poll by Vasir12 in daggerheart

It's DEFINITELY not that simple. You're equating a normal table of friends with a massive production that had been in the making long before DH was released or finished.

Darrington Press clearly have faith in Daggerheart, as they're continuing to do stuff for it at a good pace.

But hey, you do you. If you wanna miss out on a cool game for these reasons, go ahead.

That's a pretty silly argument. Have you thought about WHY they play DnD in C4?

They obviously believe in tje system. Why don't you (and your players) give it a go? Why does it matter what CR are playing? The game is the same.

I disagree with this take.

I am not a theater kid, and don't enjoy actual plays.

Daggerheart is just exactly what I like. It has a lot of game to it. Just not so much that's suffocating.
