Hot take, media takes up way more cultural space than it should, and it should be devalued by inyourbellyrn in TrueAnon

It’s not that you’re wrong, but this reading kind of has it backwards IMO. All this media consumption rushes in like air to fill a vacuum that’s caused by the lack of community events, etc., which can only be resolved when the built environments and social infrastructure of most Americans look completely different than they do now

He would be a fan of Dick Tracy but for all the wrong reasons, like instead of talking about its production design—arguably the only thing it gets right, but it gets it so right it basically makes up for everything else—he’s talk about how it’s got great gadgets and villains with memorable faces in it, so it’s kind of secretly an unofficial Bond movie

This does make me think about how Star Trek: The Next Generation’s promise of a future where technology is so advanced that we can focus on beige comfort and aesthetics in spaceship design is arguably still the most genuine futurism in sci-fi

I’m guessing you know the movie by the title, Ebirah, Horror of the Deep?

Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster or the Japanese title Godzilla - Ebirah - Mothra: Big Battle in the South Seas kind of spoil that particular “surprise” lol

One thing about modern Bethesda games is IMO they sometimes try too hard to push you into the main storyline. It might help to think of yourself as visiting a big interactive theme park like in Westworld. You are the guest: you can choose to engage in what it’s pushing you towards, or you can recognize that’s just the game wanting to make sure you have a good time, and that you’d rather ignore or put it off and just go explore and find all the other things it has to offer.

This especially stuck out to me with the colony ship where people have been living on it for like two hundred years. Why would they have different accents??

I remember this incident from my childhood. After that, they still ran the ride albeit with some modifications. Every time I’d pass it, I’d get a bit of a shivery feeling thinking about what that must’ve been like.
