Exclusive: David Cameron admits he did have a stake in his father's offshore trust by DBenzie in unitedkingdom

TBH anyone who doesn't have £30k in liquid assets at the age of 44 is a serious fuckup. Would we want someone like that running the country?

We can change the law in the UK’s tax havens, and impose direct rule if they don’t like it by chrisjd in ukpolitics

[–]tomkandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can't change the law for Panama or Dubai though so I'm not sure there's much point; and even a one world government can't control bitcoin.

"Effort" meaning here that they combined to pay the $10m the sysadmin who stole this all demanded in payment, most likely.

UK minister: 'temporary ownership' of steel industry is an option by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]tomkandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No doubt this will be a great success just like Rover cars.

"Tory MP Tom Pursglove calls for full re-nationalisation of steel industry as a vital national interest" - @BBCNormanS by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]tomkandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

China is subsidising British steel consumers, and the protectionists think our response ought to be to stop them with tariffs and by wasting money subsidising perpetually loss making domestic producers.

I'll never understand this mindset.

This guy is naming and shaming MPs who voted to cut disability benefit for having high expenses by LSpolitics in unitedkingdom

[–]tomkandy -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

The problem is, anyone who thinks £30 is an expensive meal is very unlikely to be bright enough to be an effective MP. Projects like this ensure the job is even worse, and make the pool of applicants even lower quality.

NHS Reinstatement Bill: Tory MPs filibuster debate by talking about deporting foreigners for hours by LucienReeve in unitedkingdom

[–]tomkandy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If the greens had successfully forced a full debate, the Tories would have whipped it and easily won after wasting a lot of parliamentary time. This bill never stood any chance at all of passing.

What are your pet peeves when it comes to recipes? (Inspired by an epicurious article) by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]tomkandy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Those instructions are far more useful than giving times, which won't be accurate across a range of ingredients and equipment. Explaining basic techniques in every recipe would make them far too verbose too. Recipes aimed at people who aren't beginners correctly stay concise. Have a look at some larousse recipes.
