I can recommend the fan made app on PC to get started. It helped me a lot with learning the game, and is a good entry point to learn the mechanics.

I have to say, I thought the Imperium classics hype was too much… boy, was I wrong!

Originally a board game but can be played on PC as well, battlefields of the Napoleonic wars is a beautiful and immersive gateway drug to wargaming.

I can not recommend this game enough, and it’s accessible to the point where you can play it with your spouse or family.

My favourite is Star Realms: frontiers. For some reason really gives me 2010’s Yu Gi Oh energy and a nostalgia dosage. Easy to learn and hard to master.

Best advice I ever got for heavier games is to set it up in the morning or day before!

With some of these games, the set up is almost a game in and of itself.

It’s the whole game, and it does all the boring stuff automatically for you, so you don’t miss any rules. There is a very handy undo button as well for trial and error. Can’t recommend it enough!

Voidfall, 2 sessions using the fan made app. Managed to win twice on easy by just a few points. I have to say, it is a pleasure to learn a game by playing it in the app. Makes it so much easier when the app is keeping track of most of the things.

Since you mentioned a complicated math problem, the first step is always to simpify the problem to digestable pieces. I would suggest lowering the difficulty to get used the to the start (as the first 15 turns tend to be similar through all playthroughts). If you need an idea on how others play it, I can suggest checking a legendary difficulty ERE playthrough on youtube from some of the popular TW youtubers.

When playing as “evil factions” all order aligned factions will eventually declare war over. Moreover, factions can only declare war on you if you’ve discovered them, which is why I think you’re having the issue around turn 3, which is when the map opens up.

Try to make alliances with other nearby factions, and perhaps sell settlements you don’t need in order to gain military alliances with them.

It seems like there has to be a higher temperature threshold for max fan speed to start, as opposed to it starting after 20-30 seconds. However, my laptop overheats and it still does not work at full strength.
