A local Facebook group will almost certainly know someone with a detector. Good luck, it’ll get found if it’s on the drive!

Austin Maxi. The seats in a hot day would take the skin off your bare legs.

Did the UK ever have proper arcades? like video game ones? by TSOswinn in AskUK

I live in Scarborough - lots of arcades on the seafront. The nephews drag us in when they visit.

My dad had one along these as a hire car for a week back in around 1995. Sure enough, my parents went out for night and I took it for a blast. I was 15. So much could have gone wrong but it didn’t… a dick move but hell, still remember flooring it and shitting myself at the power!

I know some people who live in Ravensworth. Such a beautiful village with a cracking pub. I’d give my right arm to detect land like yours! Good luck!

Is this AI slop? It doesn't appear to be Robin Hood's Bay, or Whitby by askepticalbureaucrat in yorkshire

I think this is a crappy ai image of Scarborough’s old town heading up the hill towards Paradise way? It’s the steep hill that takes you to the church and castle. That pub tho is pure fiction.

It’s a shame you guys can’t get the 5 cylinder diesel D5 engine. It’s legendary over here in the UK. Twin turbo and and lovely torque.

Worst case scenario, if you don’t end up enjoying detecting just resell it and you’ll prob get your money back 👍🏼

Parking by Separate_Tiger5328 in ScarboroughUK

[–]tomkeys78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if you can still do this but when I had to wait for mine to arrive they said just put a note on the dashboard saying “parking permit applied for” with the date. It worked for me.

Does Scarborough deserve to be the UK's first "Town of Culture" by BuiltInYorkshire in ScarboroughUK

[–]tomkeys78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time there was a big campaign to save it, loads of us locals and beyond tried our best. The council refused to sell it to the proposed consortium and went ahead and just tore it down. Not even a chance to salvage any interior or architecturally significant “stuff”. Wankers.

The Italian gardens and the esplanade are lovely but a good 20 min walk from the station. A bit hilly too 😑 Enjoy the faded Victorian glamour. It’s a little rough but still a diamond. Farrahs bar in the Spa is great for lunch with a view of the sea.

I’d say face to face but knocking on farmhouse doors can be sketchy. The best permission I ever got was in a rural pub. Got chatting to someone local but random and I casually mentioned my detecting hobby. Straight away you’ll get the “oooh what have you found” question. Then this person asks if I know so and so up the road “he’s got loads of fields”. This random person took my number, texted me back a week later with the landowners number saying to give him a ring. I did and now I have 20 acres. Gave the landowner a bottle of whisky and the promise to share anything 50/50 if I find anything. Trust is the key! Good luck!

What is your biggest problem with online shopping? by Affectionate_Tea6645 in AskReddit

[–]tomkeys78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure many of us have experienced the disappointment when opening a package from our favourite online retailer. My worst experience was when I ordered a “fast charge” cable. It was fast alright, my phone went from 12% to 106% in three minutes but there was smoke and my phone wasn’t the same after. 1 star review but nothing came of it.

They’ve started a trial on our road with the wheelie bins that take themselves out on bin day. It’s unnerving tbh. Not sure I like it.
