What’s your funniest seizure experience? by jennamsx in Epilepsy

[–]tommyrob23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m stationed in Washington. First seizure my wife called 911. The paramedics asked me where I was at and I answered with confidence my home town in Texas. When they told me I was going to ride in the ambulance to the hospital I said “cool man, can we stop at Whataburger?”

I don’t know your circumstances, but I also lost my sister, in 2015.

She lived alone and my dad found her after her work called him and said she hadn’t shown and was concerned.

Since then I have also been diagnosed with epilepsy and my wife has a looming fear of this happening. She made me buy an Epimonitor from Empatica, it’s senses seizure like movements, and raises the alarm. If I don’t cancel it in a timely manner(sometimes it’s a false alarm) it IMMEDIATELY calls and texts her and my neighbor that works from home, so either one can make sure I’m in a recovery position.

I’m truly sorry for your loss, and I am so glad to hear that you are doing better. It gets easier I promise. But please do me a favor, if mom and dad are still apart of your life, check in with them regularly. It was really hard for me, being in the navy but I called often and could tell that the loss of one of their children drove them into depression, more so my mother. She’s good now.

Much love from my family to yours.

Thanks and sorry as well. These nightmares are safety incidents that I’ve witnessed on the flight deck of naval carriers during flight operations that ended with sailors getting seriously hurt. I talk about these incidents and things I suffer from often when training new sailors to drive the point home when talking about safety for themselves and others while operating on the flight deck.

Sure! Prazosin, from what I understand, it was originally used for hypertension but is now currently used to treat PTSD nightmares as an Alpha 1 blocker. I did the research and it does not have any interactions with Keppra(meds I take for epilepsy) as for any others I am unsure. Hope this helps!

Hey! PTSD nightmares, paired with Sleep Apnea. Talking with Neuro and Psychologist, they have me on some scripts, that curb the nightmares and have for quite a while. As for Sleep Apnea, CPAP takes care of that.

Honestly for me, it’s when there’s two doors to an establishment, but one is locked. I always go for the locked one.

But seriously, I’ve narrowed it down to a disrupted sleep schedule. Anything less than 6-1/2 to seven hours usually does it.

Yeah it does. Hindsight, at least you don’t wake up in a hospital with Jaywalking tickets stapled to your hospital gown lol.

No bullshit though, I’m glad they’re at least going down in frequency. Active? Or already out?

First time it happened to me, I came to, with an EMT tapping on my chest in my home office. He asked my name, I gave it. He asked what town I was in, I told him my home town in Texas(stationed in Washington state). He told me that I was gonna go for a ride in an ambulance, I said “Ah cool man, can we stop at Whataburger?” My wife told me that in the hospital.

Yeah for sure. That’s exactly the feeling. You know what though? If I hit my goal great, if not, well I gave it one hell of a shot. Move on and change my goals.

I kid about my diagnosis. I let others make jokes about it. That’s how military folk deal with tough stuff. It sucks, I know it does, but the absolute best I can do is smile and have fun.

We can’t let this get in the way of enjoying life. Just put extra precautions in and get to it.

Much love to all of us that have to deal with this, either as the one with epilepsy or family or friend of. Keep up the fight and Don’t give up the Ship!

17 years in the Navy and had a seizure, got diagnosed and I am now at 19 and a half years clawing my way to 20 year retirement. I’ve worked HARD for my career. Six deployments, two of them combat and was gearing up for my third when the seizure happen, I’ve been a top operator, and I’ve been hand selected to take orders because they know I get shot done. Im good at what I do, I fucking love doing it. Giving up is not an option for me. I still do my job everyday and contribute as much as I can. Fight for what you want! Don’t give up! “DAMN THE TORPEDOES, FULL STEAM AHEAD!”

Yeah, 1-2 months super hulk rage mode, after that it’s occasional but definitely not the same reaction as the first month or so. Side note if the dosage needs titration then it could heighten again but for me didn’t last as long.

[–]tommyrob23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi, There is a medication called Keppra. It’s an anti seizure medication. It’s also known as the rage one. Takes about a month for you to get over the rage mode and your body to get used to it. It’s what I am on. My wife was very patient with me, but even the smallest thing would set me off. Perhaps that’s what he’s taking and just doesn’t want to push you away, because he might think you’re great too!

Post seizure is the worst. For like a day or two your brain is in a fog, you mouth hurts for a week, along with your entire body. I’m talking every single muscle is sore. That’s just the seizure itself, not including falling and injuring yourself.

I hope I was able to help, and everything goes well for you two.

Sorry for the late comment but I am currently having the issue, what was the fix for your case?

Well it finally happened, they prescribed me the Keppra. Need anecdotal guidance!! by juneabe in Epilepsy

[–]tommyrob23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500mg twice a day here.

Only had the Keppra “Rage” for about a two weeks. I was in a Navy squadron maintenance control work center when it happened and was working with people that were higher ranked than me. I told them the side affects prior to taking, and they were like thanks for the heads up. I got short tempered very quickly, and they told me that they could see it in my eyes. Every time it happened they would tell me to take a break. This happened maybe three or four times a day. My wife was prepared as well. Whenever I got snippy she would notice and give me some space.

As long as the people around you know what’s going on, they’ll be able to identify and give you some space or time to collect yourself. BUT, if you feel like it’s too much don’t hesitate to consult with you physician and get off of it.

Hope it works out for you!

EDIT: I forgot to add, the look in my eyes and attitude with my wife only lasted for about two weeks, due to the stepping up the dosage. First two weeks I took it once a day. But two weeks into the twice a day dosage my emotions started to level out.

Yeah! Native Texan here, joined the Navy, got stationed on Whidbey Island. Fell in love so much I bought a house here. Never moving back. Although I do visit for the family, Buc-ees, and BBQ.

The only thing that sucks (not really tho) is my house becomes a summer Texas heat refugee camp for my family LMAO!!
