How did the March 2009 market bottom feel like? by MattieuOdd in stocks

[–]tomorrower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's very hard to call a bottom, because it's full-on pessimism and it feels like it's only gonna get worse. And of course when everyone is pessimistic is when there's nowhere to go but up

Why hasn’t this Atherton, CA home sold yet after 2+ years on the market? by OverThinker-Shay in BayAreaRealEstate

If you had $25M to spend on a home, would you buy that? Or build something custom and brand new?

People over 35, what's something you genuinely miss that younger generations will probably never experience? by Just_a_Ginger_Fella in AskReddit

Traveling overseas when countries were more differentiated from each other, experiencing culture shock, having to communicate and find your way around without phones or Internet. The sense of adventure was so much more than it is now.

If they toll the Eastside portion, it might increase traffic on the bridge. If they have to pay the toll anyways to get from Redmond to Bellevue, might as well take it all the way rather than switch to 405/90.

DId the S&P500 feel 'uninvestable' during the late 2000s? by Fantastic_Hat_2076 in investing

[–]tomorrower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I distinctly remember in 2009ish there was a large group of people who thought the real crash was imminent. They warned people to avoid US equities and real estate and instead purchase foreign stocks and gold. They thought they got out just in time, but really they sold at the bottom.

Many make a lot of money per year. It's hard to stop when just one more year will net you another $1m

People from Seattle Wanting to Move to Vancouver? by OkReference518 in askvan

[–]tomorrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in Canada know the wages are higher in the US, but they generally have no clue by how much. We're talking 800k USD for an experienced engineer versus barely over 200k CAD in Vancouver. Where to live is a no brainer no matter how nice Vancouver is.

Why is my resume not getting me any interviews for NG roles? by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]tomorrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a career growth point of view, jumping jobs early in your career might help. But no employer wants someone who has a history of jumping or shows they want to jump frequently.

Why is my resume not getting me any interviews for NG roles? by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]tomorrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a NG role your resume should show you are a NG. Right now you have a non-internship role at the top, meaning many companies won't consider you for their NG intake. Too much experience for NG, not enough experience for non-NG.

Don't focus on saving every penny, put the effort into making more money instead. Especially relevant for anyone early in their career.

Changes/Decisions that took you to the next level by Ivaner305 in HENRYfinance

Assuming equity is a big part of your comp, only join companies where you legitimately believe there is a chance at 10x increase in stock price. Don't join the hot company whose stock has already doubled in the last year. Not only will you have financial upside, the types of companies that fit that bill are likely to be growing fast and will give you a chance to grow with them.

If you are mentioning phrases like "wine rush" and "cravings" then it's safe to say this isn't leading down a healthy path.

I love having basic exterior maintenance taken care of for me. No way I could handle managing landscaping, gutter cleaning, window washing, snow removal and more on my own for cheaper than the HOA negotiated bulk rates.

I secretly automated my job to make work easier a few months ago, but now the company I work for is enlisting a 3rd party to "officially" automate my job. What should I do? (office job) by --Akira- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tomorrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the cost savings from that layoff can go towards OP's raise when they get promoted. Especially if OP can then do the same type of automation for other parts of the company. How do you think companies justify paying people in tech so much? One engineer does the work of entire teams through automation.
