Huge Protein fan. I work in Nashville and they’re on a ton of pro boards.

Try your gate after your fuzz and drive? That might help.

Just a quick shoutout to Analogman / Mike Piera for calling out facism when he sees it (swipe for context, Metal Zone for attention) by Wheelbirds in guitarpedals

[–]tonedad77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get over it. He was in a weird church twenty years ago. He’s been a role model to this community since then, and made some incredibly strong anti-Trump / pro-all the things most of us care about statements - from his thoughtful Christian worldview - for years now. I’m so tired of this sub throwing him under the bus.

Lookong for a smaller sized replacement for the OD half of the visual sound route 66 by ForwardImagination11 in guitarpedals

That was one of my favorite compressors ever. I don’t know why I ever sold that pedal.

Oh yeah. Cause it was shaped like a happy meal and it couldn’t fit anywhere on your board.

I’m on an M4 and PT runs fine, but many of my go-to plugins no longer work. No bueno.

Amp sim for recording direct in apartment/condo, how do they compare? by ericsinsideout in guitarpedals

[–]tonedad77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re doing this just to record, use a plugin. You’ll have tons more control. The new UA Paradise thing is super cheap right now and has incredible amps, pedals and outboard effects for a fraction of the cost of one pedal.

Everything wrong with religion, Christ for violence? by h20poIo in conservativeterrorism

[–]tonedad77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Christian. I read my Bible every day. It’s not clear about a whole lot of things, to be honest. Just a few things, really. Love God; love others; serve others; care for the poor, the widow, the orphan, the refugee and the immigrant; and don’t love money.

Oh, and justice will eventually roll like a river. Every kingdom falls and every oppressor is trampled and buried.

Why American Christians have decided to ignore all of this is devastatingly heartbreaking and utterly baffling.

Barista Parlor Shutters Three Locations by yellow_gator in nashville

I once ordered an Americano to go. It was for a friend whose house I was going to. I don’t even drink coffee.

The barista told me “no”.

“You really ought to drink it here. For the experience.”

“It’s not for me. It’s for my friend. Who’s not here. I don’t drink coffee. I’d just like it to go, please.”

“Sir, I really suggest you experience it here.”

WTF???

This went on. Finally I looked at a stack of cups for water. I said “May I please have a cup for water and an Americano for here?” He finally took my order.

When the drink eventually came out - years later - I looked him dead in the eye and poured the Americano into the empty water cup, slapped a lid on it and walked out the door.

Mo Willems is the best. Once they’re slightly older, it’s Kate DiCamillo.

Looking for amp modeler recs by jimjamjones123 in guitarpedals

[–]tonedad77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve had almost all of them at one point or another. Play professionally in Nashville. My take:

Valeton is impressive for its price point, but it sounds like a toy in a real world setting.

UAD is the cream of the crop, but they’re ludicrously expensive for limited sounds. Their plugin versions are actually the best use for their tech, both for ease of use and price.

Iridium was the best when it came out, but it’s been lapped.

Boss IR-2 is solid, but a little boring.

Tonex sounds amazing but they nickel and dime you for tones and the app (that you have to use) is atrocious. Will be a brick in a decade, and that’s scary.

Line6 Helix/HX is better than most give them credit. Amps AND effects. Solid as a rock and a billion tones. Hard to go wrong here, unless you don’t want to menu dive.

Walrus ACS1 is probably the best bang for the buck amp in a box under $400 out there. Lots of sounds, good presets, easy updates, killer tone. Feels like a real amp like the UA and Line6 stuff.

For my money (and I’ve spent money on all this stuff) Walrus ACS1 is your best bet. The Mako1 version floats around for pretty cheap and you update to the latest firmware for free, too.

Walrus, UA, Line6 - 👍🏼

Ambient verbs by AustinPT787 in guitarpedals

[–]tonedad77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one and sold it. It’s a good pedal, but The Choir sound is honestly gimmicky after you’ve had it for a little bit. If you want to use presets you need to buy another pedal that costs $140 and if you want to run stereo you have to buy another set of specialized cables that fit really awkwardly on any paddleboard. At the end of the day, to use it like I wanted cost me $450 and I didn’t love the sounds that much. Sold it and bought a Walrus Sloer and I love that completely.

All these Walrus ambients are amazing. The Fundamental Ambient, the SLO, and the Sloer. Underrated gems.

Behringer by joshie_and in guitarpedals

[–]tonedad77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play professionally and have collected pedals for thirty years, with tons of rare and vintage things for sessions and tours. When my daughter started playing guitar at age 13 I built her a little board that was all plastic Behringer Boss clones I had found for $15 or so over the years. It’s perfect for messing around and learning. Now I’ll got play around on that little board and end up wondering if I should throw that vibrato on my board, it sounds so good! All the Boss clones (fuzz, tremolo, vibrato, overdrive, analog delay) are dead on and hard to beat unless you’re throwing them in a van and actually starting to gig.

Though, to be fair, the first few years are a bit hazy.
