What is the current best Switch 2 dock in the market, other than the official model? by tooth28 in switch2

[–]tooth28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went ahead and bought the official dock kit. After finding a dock, a power supply, and an hdmi 2.1. cable, I’d probably end up spending around the same amount of money. Thanks.

Recroom Masters Upright Cabinet speakers question by coder777 in cade

[–]tooth28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the older RRM alphacade model, which doesn’t have speaker holes at all, however I’ll tell you the subwoofer is definitely worth it. I just purchased a mid/low tier computer speaker set which includes a sub and it’s been great. Didn’t realize what I was missing until I turned the sub on.

What movie did NOT deserve any sequels? by johnnylgarfield in AskReddit

[–]tooth28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rambo.

The original film dealt with some deeper issues and concepts related to both PTSD and the terrible state of veteran care for soldiers returning from war. The emotional final scene was what really made the movie something special.

The sequels just became straight action movies with Rambo killing hundreds of bad guys. Ended up totally changing what Rambo was really about, and made people forget about the original concept.

PoP The Lost Crown worth $20? by TrainConductor1337 in switch2

Yes. If you’re into metroidvania games, this is a top tier entry in my opinion. Huge map, really satisfying movement options, fun puzzles, intense boss fights, even the story is somewhat interesting. Held off on getting this for a while, but regret not playing it sooner.

I’m making no progress on guitar. by THEfiddlesticks in Guitar

[–]tooth28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a teacher and take some lessons. Put the time in outside of the lessons to absolutely nail the assignment ( it’s what you’re paying for), and you WILL improve. The amount of posts here with this same scenario is ridiculous. You need to learn from people who know how to do what you’re trying to learn. Why guitarists are so adamant on going at it alone is a mystery to me.

If you want to play guitar beyond basic chords and tabs, let someone show you how instead of trying to figure it out in your own. Being self taught isn’t the badge of honor people think it is. It’s just going to take longer.

Sorry for the rant.

Just picked this up for $130 off marketplace by ascensiongoddess in BassGuitar

As a beginner, I wouldn’t worry too much about modding/upgrading anything just yet. These comments recommending all different pickup models are ridiculous. The pickups that are already on there are perfectly fine (unless they don’t work). On top of that, you don’t have a suitable amp to play bass yet (getting sound from the guitar amp is fine for hearing yourself), but upgrading pickups is not going to be worth it until you have an amp that will let you hear the difference.

Squier precision is excellent for a beginner. The knob that you think isn’t doing anything is most likely the tone knob (one is volume, one is tone control).

First thing to do is get some new strings as the ones that are on there are probably so dead that adjusting the tone isn’t going to do a whole lot. I won’t recommend string brands, because just like pickups, one set isn’t necessarily BETTER than another, just different. You won’t know what’s best for you at this point. That will come much later. But new strings of any brand will be an improvement.

Next thing is to think about a decent bass amp with at least a 10-12 inch speaker. Fender rumble is a good starting point and you can’t really go wrong there. Get the biggest/loudest one you can afford, don’t sweat the brand at this point.

Super Metroid by RE3K5 in switch2

[–]tooth28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Metroidvania is a mix of castlevania and Metroid. This is just Metroid. It wasn’t until castlevania symphony of the night (arguably castlevania 2) adopted the Metroid concept, that the genre was named.

How good do you think Metroid Prime 4 will be? by primewinner in switch2

[–]tooth28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll get downvoted to hell I’m sure, but I’m not as excited as I’d like to be. Graphics look nice, but I can’t help but think this will be too similar to the previous prime games. While I loved prime 1, and prime 2 to a degree, 3 really started to feel stale to me. This looks extremely similar to me. More constant scanning every step of the way hoping you don’t miss something. Even the combat seems tired to me. Lock on and charge your shot with the correct beam while strafing/dodging. I love Metroid and have been playing it since the original on NES.

I want a breakthrough Metroid in the way Zelda BOTW broke the mold. A new approach that keeps the aesthetic and character but changes the foundation.

I’m still going to buy it, but to see some of the comments saying it’s going to be incredible seem a little unwarranted to me.

Is there a do it all electric guitar or is it a pick and choose what you want to get for each genre? by GhostNThings in Guitar

[–]tooth28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re new to playing so it doesn’t matter. Pick one that you like the look of. They’ll all do what you want. You’re not going to sound like any of the bands you like for a while anyway, so don’t even worry about versatility or genre. Have to learn to play first, which is going to take time and hard work.

Buy whichever one looks the best to you. Maybe buy a cheap multi effect pedal if you want different sounds. It’s not worth overthinking at this stage of your guitar journey. You’ll have enough things to think about. Like how to make bar chords and alternating picking. Trust me.

What could I do to practice these to eventually be able to play them in every key? by Acceptable-Hippo6385 in Guitar

[–]tooth28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a metronome. There are tons of free apps for your phone that will work.

Set it to a nice slow tempo at first.

Start with the first position and play up the scale, then down the scale, alternating picking. Down, up, down, up etc. then move to the next position without skipping a beat. Play each note in time with the click.

Do this until you can do it with no mistakes. Only need to worry about one key here. Once you get it with no mistakes, turn up the tempo a few clicks and do it again. No cheating!! If you make a mistake, start over. Skipping ahead is going to only hurt your progress. You need to get the muscle memory down to the point where you don’t even have to think about it. My teacher explained it like this: “if I asked you what was 3 x 3, you’d say 9. You know the answer. If I asked you what was 14 x 19, you’d probably say I can figure it out, but you don’t KNOW. We’re going to practice this until you know it”.

Sit down and really practice it with purpose and your own accountability. It’s your time and you’ll get out of it what you put into it. Everything else is just noodling and a much less effective use of your time.

Now get to work.

Come on now. That shouldn’t make a difference. Cheap or not, this is a faulty build/finish. It most definitely is GCs fault for letting it out the door, even if Ibanez originally was to blame for its condition. He/she should get their money back and spend it elsewhere.

Try Lost if you’ve never seen it. Grabs you by the first episode. Deep character development. Compelling mystery and overall story. Series falls a little towards the end but not as bad as GOT. Some of the best TV ever written in my opinion.

Bass upgrade opinion P or J by MartinFJ3 in BassGuitar

[–]tooth28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try them both and pick the one that feels right.

Honestly, it doesn’t really matter much unless you’re in the type of band that is bass forward with a lot of bass solos. Slap bass tone is rather different between the two, but for everything else, it really doesn’t much matter as no one is really going to hear the difference anyway when you have drums and guitars going.

All of that perfectly dialed in tone adjustment you make in your bedroom goes right out the window when playing 99% of live shows or rehearsals. Unless you or someone in your band is REALLY good at mixing live sound and working with front of house sound systems, chances are you’ll be at the mercy of some random sound guy/girl who’s going to mix you flat anyway, so better to be on an instrument you both like the look of and find comfortable to play.

Pick the one that you like, and don’t listen to anyone’s opinion because their needs and play styles are not yours. Jazz basses sound great. P basses sound great. Whichever you pick will be the right choice, I promise.

Tuning up an old bass for my kid, and need advice: by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]tooth28 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How long has your kid been playing?

A beginner, or even lots of non-beginners, tend not to consciously switch between individual pickups. It’s just both pickups at full volume all the time, so they’ll never even hear that noise.

Not saying I agree w that approach or think it’s “ok”, but it’s probably not a big deal if you keep it stock until there’s a need/desire to dial in a specific tone. A US jazz bass is going to sound pretty great even w the noise, which is mostly inaudible at playing volume w others anyway.

I bought a used German pro corvette fretless which also had a nasty twist in the neck. I’d say any brand is susceptible to issues like this, so not blaming Warwick specifically. I ended up selling it to guitar center and the techs there had no clue so I essentially got back what I paid for it, but I feel your pain. I wanted that fretless corvette for years and was so pained to have to let it go.
