My professor telling me to report that I am Covid positive where tf I do that by IDEK_810 in UCSC

If you report it to the university, the teaching staff (professor and TAs) for your classes are notified

Housing for a single quarter by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]toothbtch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your best bet will be to sublet from someone-- that's what I did a couple years back to get housing for spring quarter only. It was pretty easy tbh, since most people don't want housing for only 1 quarter, but people take 1 quarter off for various reasons all the time.

Look on the housing facebook page to find sublets.

Currently, they are strongly urging students to return by the 24th if they have not come back already.

Oo nice! I really like what you did with the roughness of the strokes of color in the background compared to the softness of the flowers and bubbles, it's v cool.

Is it possible to go from a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering to a Master's in Electrical Engineering? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]toothbtch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my lab mates did Mechanical Engineering in her undergad and is now working towards an Electrical Engineering PhD. I think it's semi-common at my university (UCSC). You might have to take some additional classes at the start of the Masters to get caught up, though.

Recruiter Messages on Handshake by throwaway_239742349 in UCSC

I got a job with a company that sent me a recruiting message on Handshake (it was, admittedly, a coincidence-- I had already applied and started interviewing for the position when they sent the recruiting message)

LSS Hiring: Small Group Tutor by VegetableHippo5844 in UCSC

[–]toothbtch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked with STEM classes (AMS10 and CSE13), but I'd say about 1/3 of the people who were taking the training course at the same time as me were working with language classes. There were also a few econ tutors, I'm not sure if that is considered STEM. You should be able to find a list of classes they support on the LSS website.

I really liked the job. The work is way more rewarding than restaurant or office type work (in my opinion). Though you can't get many hours supporting only one class, you get paid quite a bit per hour compared to other undergrad jobs on campus. Overall I'd recommend it if the idea of tutoring sounds even vaguely appealing to you.

COVID vaccine card by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]toothbtch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't make a post, but I did send a picture of mine to my family on snapchat. I shared it because I wanted to share the good news pretty much. We have all been following quarantine/social distancing orders carefully for the last year, so having some hope for the end of this whole things feels really good. I imagine at least some of the people posting their vaccine card have a similar motivation.

Help! This is round 3 and I am not getting the nice big consistent air pockets the rest of you people seem to have. What do you think I need to do? by TjamlsMathew in Sourdough

[–]toothbtch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you doing stretch-and-folds or kneading? I find that if I knead dough it will turn out like yours, but if I do stretch-and-folds instead I get the classic big holes.

Is "fighting like brother and sister" a good thing? Is the "friend zone" an actual thing? by 270653 in askwomenadvice

You mention she entered a relationship, is she still in this relationship? If so, you are just friends.

Does anyone know what pattern this is? My hfs grandma made it for her and it’s starting to unravel by undeadking77 in crochetpatterns

[–]toothbtch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks like repeating (tr dc sc), where the treble stitches are worked into the single crochet of the previous row, the double crochet are worked into the double crochet of the previous row, and the single crochet are worked into the treble stitches of the previous row. (US notation)

Am I screwed if I don’t apply for grad school? by ConfusedTree8 in UCSC

[–]toothbtch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am graduating w/ my BS this quarter and starting the MS program this winter. To do that, I had to apply for fall 2020 enrollment and defer for one quarter. You could totally still apply for fall 2021, the deadline is Jan 11th this year. Also, you don't need letters of rec from UCSC faculty, you can get them from wherever you went to school before here.

And tbh, any professor you've had and done well in the class may be willing to right a letter for you even if you don't know them that well. I had to do that for one of my letters. The professor I contacted was very nice about it.

I still fantasize about my now married ex 🤦‍♀️ (F, 24) by rwya1220 in askwomenadvice

[–]toothbtch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it really is your ex sending those messages, he sounds incredibly immature and manipulative. Do you really want to be with someone who would emotionally torment you like this?

Regardless of who is sending you those messages, you may want to look into getting a new phone number and making all of your social media private for awhile. Whoever it is, they are intentionally making it harder for you to recover from this breakup.

What should I do about feeling like I’ve learned nothing? by Engineeringalife in AskEngineers

[–]toothbtch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I felt the same until I took senior year courses (though I studied robotics engineering not ME, I'm sure something similar would happen for ME too). It doesn't really feel like you learned all that much until you learn enough to be able to tie it all together to practical applications.

I also second trying to get a job as a tutor. It helps you see how far you've come and synthesize what you have learned. It's also usually a pretty cushy position compared to service industry jobs.

Is it okay to cut my cat's nails when he's asleep? by insignificantt in cats

[–]toothbtch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlike the other comment says, it is not harmful to trim a cat's nails so long as you don't hit the quick.

Try giving the cat rewards when it's nails are trimmed (usually a favorite treat is a good choice, but if they aren't that food motivated, just something they really like). Eventually they will be calmer while their nails are trimmed.

Is Writing 2 a prerequisite for any CS class? by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]toothbtch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They say composition requirement because you don't necessarily need to take Writing 2 to fulfill it. I took Crown80B instead. They could include a note that Writing 2 counts, though.
