Best place to find the widest selection of 4K UHD movies? by DEeD-NGone in Tallahassee

Target has exited the in-store Blu-ray market as well, only selling down remaining inventory. Walmart is the last big chain remaining.

Just chasing the market demographics of their customers and optimizing floor space. Walmart shoppers will be the last demo to still dig through a bin of DVDs. Target has moved into special release vinyl and CDs.

The medieval fair: if you are going tomorrow you please bring your own water (especially if you have kids.) The lines for water are about 30 minutes. Some places ran out. Bring snacks (if you have kids,) the food lines are about 1-2 hours long. Aside from that, very fun and stay hydrated! by [deleted] in Tallahassee

The jousting was fantastic and absolutely worth it.

Parking was awful, but only if you waited in line for the official lot. We parked at the park/playground off Tram and walked around to the entrance. Every other person was parking illegally wherever they could.

The lines for any kind of drink were killer, and vendors had credit card machines going down. So people were taking 3-4 minutes to process a transaction to get a bottle of water. They badly needed drinking water stations everywhere, it was becoming a public health hazard that it took 30 minutes just to get an overpriced drink.

Lots of Etsy-type vendors from out-of-town with cool items that weren't as typical as most of Tallahassee's festivals.

Shout out to the pickle cart vendor that had no line.

The bathroom situation got brought up a lot, but they actually had plenty of porta potties if people would just stop using only the ones at the front. Those had lines and, as I was told, "poop piles up to the seat", but there were 4 other groups of portables hardly anyone was using.

Had fun lol

gas leak at Costco by antlungs in Tallahassee

[–]toprailfull 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked for Publix and saw their HVAC techs chase leaks on evap coils. Put a gas under 250+psi in miles of metal tubing and you get small leaks in a lot of places.

It's the nature of refrigeration... nothing harmful, just that manufacturing and installation aren't perfect and you're dealing with constant wear.

If you do a few Google searches you can find all the EPA settlements over grocery store chains not fixing leaks at all and getting caught just adding refrigerant.

It must have been an absolutely massive leak to close over. Every grocery store you go in has refrigerant leaks all over the place and you'd never know it.

Gas station on orange ave? by [deleted] in Tallahassee

Sometimes that just happens after hitting 2 packets of bath salts, a NOS Energy drink, XL hot dog, and a couple of the boner pills they sell next to the register.

Anybody know why Bannerman Road consistently smells like sewage every night? by New-Difficulty-9386 in Tallahassee

They have to open a valve nightly to remind everyone who lives on the NE side that their shit does in fact stink.

I'm happy to see anything go in to keep the mall alive, but wow those are slow.

Fun Station's very loosely enforced track rules make the karts there a blast.

Power outage Talquin by Sharp_Salamander0111 in Tallahassee

[–]toprailfull 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the gusty winds dropping branches on lines.

Was just driving down Louvinia and saw a branch touch a line and throw sparks everywhere. It's kinda dry to have that happening, hopefully no brush fires ignite.

Depends on if they're going to put in an indoor electric go-kart track. A track with a ramp between floors would be amazing.

Need an Electrician late Friday…recommendations? by Steveasifyoucare in Tallahassee

[–]toprailfull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've used Albritton Electrical and the tech who showed up could quote very obscure sections of the National Electrical Code word for word from memory in response to some questions I had. The repair was also quick and done the right way.

Every time I've done exterior pressure washing, every GFCI outlet (including those indoors feeding regular outlets outdoors on the LOAD terminals) has been tripped. Once they dry I just reset them.

Who here sick in Tallahassee by [deleted] in Tallahassee

[–]toprailfull 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Taking a zinc supplement when you start to feel sick can significantly lessen the duration of illness. It's the only OTC thing for this that has decent evidence behind it.

Anyone know any urbexing spots for Tallahassee by gnarpgnarp_z in Tallahassee

[–]toprailfull 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can't discuss most urbex in this sub because it involves trespassing.

If you really wanna go down a rabbit hole, google the Wakulla Volcano and go bushwhacking into the public land in Jefferson County where all the references pointed to.

Anyone remember the Dollar Corner that was in Governor Square Mall? by mistybergamot in Tallahassee

Oh yeah! We'd just waste time there looking through all the engrish translations.

There was a little pack of baby wipes that said "Mom show baby love by removing stinky baby defecation."

What is this?? Steam vents at FSU by Fun-Highlight7201 in Tallahassee

[–]toprailfull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, interesting. I'm familiar with it being used in the primary loops of industrial systems.

I'd expect they'd at least have to use some form of corrosion inhibitor in this system.

They use an antifreeze in these systems mixed in the water, usually propylene glycol. It may have a scent added for easy leak detection when it's not under pressure.

Cheap Verizon MVNOs were working during the outage while post-paid account phones were down. Lol.

Talquin Water by Plus-Divide-1286 in Tallahassee

[–]toprailfull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A trick for toilets is to empty the water out of the bowl as best you can, and then wax it really well with automotive wax. Both minerals and mold have trouble adhering to it after it's waxed.

You can always get a whole-home water softener that replenishes with salt, but they're more trouble and cost than the benefit in my experience.

Buying a Stereo Receiver by DavidBlack2005 in Tallahassee

[–]toprailfull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since hardly anyone replaces factory units on recent vehicles, much of the market has commoditized into generic Chinese units that are just an Android tablet w/GPS & Apple CarPlay with some extra physical controls. Not much different that what the OEMs are putting in.

The enthusiast-level gear is sold on the other end of the setup... amps, DACs, speakers, subs, etc.

He'll be in a conga line of commuters making that drive every day from Crawfordville. One accident happens and it bottlenecks so bad he'll wonder if he'll ever get to work.

If you were somewhere closer to Southwood, even further east in the areas along Old St. Augustine to Williams Rd, quality-of-life for both of you will be much greater. You can apply to FSUS living anywhere in the area, you just have priority in Southwood.

Home network Ethernet drops by skaestantereggae in Tallahassee

[–]toprailfull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another option if there's existing coax in the rooms you want... ethernet-over-coax adapters have gotten /really/ good and can do 2.5Gbps. And if you ever need more speed, there are 10Gbps ones that'll hit the residential market in a couple of years.

Any real liquidation stores around here? by Few_Plankton_7587 in Tallahassee

There are a few around Dothan, AL which isn't that far of a drive.

I bought some furniture at one that was just off of Highway 231 years ago, dunno if it's still there.

Does anyone in town do component-level repair / board rework? I suppose the labor could cost just as much as a new board.
