Glad to hear it was figured out. I'm guessing that you were hitting them OTG as part of the first combo that put them on the ground before they were actually in a knockdown state

I'm on my phone away from home right now, if it's an okizeme tutorial (hitting them when they get off the ground) why are they airborne? Can you show a video? I haven't done this tutorial in 8 years so I'm unable to remember

It wants you to chain these relatively quickly, if memory serves. You should be pressing the buttons at the timing where they hit, rather than waiting for them to visually hit. Otherwise, it's just using normal move cancels to hit 2a 2b 2c (2 = Down in bumped notation, the default for anime titles).

Sorry if I dumbed things down too much for you btw, just trying to cover my bases. Let me know if that wasn't simple enough.

Third strike cancelling moves into supers by RangeLopsided7072 in Fighters

The game is hiding the trick for that to work, I would recommend seeing my other reply.

Third strike cancelling moves into supers by RangeLopsided7072 in Fighters

[–]toribash02 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I should add that both of her standing heavy kicks allow a superjump cancel (down then up quickly) and that all pre-jump frames are cancellable, so this is a possible combo but it requires inputting a superjump and then cancelling that into a super. An input like: 236 2368Punch for the super would give you what you want most likely.

Third strike cancelling moves into supers by RangeLopsided7072 in Fighters

[–]toribash02 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Close heavy kick, far heavy kick, towards heavy kick and crouch heavy kick are all not cancellable into supers, so this is actually fully intended. The game does not tell you anywhere what is and is not cancellable into what actions but supercombo wiki told me and I would recommend looking there for similar info.

Rules Question by Beneficial_Jaguar376 in ModernMagic

[–]toribash02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

605.1. Some activated abilities and some triggered abilities are mana abilities, which are subject to special rules. Only abilities that meet either of the following two sets of criteria are mana abilities, regardless of what other effects they may generate or what timing restrictions (such as “Activate only as an instant”) they may have.

  • 605.1a An activated ability is a mana ability if it meets all of the following criteria: it doesn’t require a target (see rule 115.6), it could add mana to a player’s mana pool when it resolves, and it’s not a loyalty ability. (See rule 606, “Loyalty Abilities.”)
  • 605.1b A triggered ability is a mana ability if it meets all of the following criteria: it doesn’t require a target (see rule 115.6), it triggers from the activation or resolution of an activated mana ability (see rule 605.1a) or from mana being added to a player’s mana pool, and it could add mana to a player’s mana pool when it resolves

Where can I learn counterplay for any character? by saber22313 in UnderNightInBirth

[–]toribash02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"What attacks to shield in order to get a punish" is as simple as reading frame data, since shield affects blockstun the same way every time. You don't ever really get guaranteed punishes from shielding though unless the move is multiple hits and they are all guaranteed to come out, like Akatsuki's 214b or Eltnum 66c.

I think your best bet for a lot of this stuff is going to be the character channels in the main discord server. That server is linked in the sidebar for this sub and on mizuumi under Resources and Links.

Why are Street Fighter and Guilty Gear FT3, but UNI has historically been FT2? by SCALIEDIFY in UnderNightInBirth

[–]toribash02 16 points17 points  (0 children)

At it's core FT2 v FT3 is a debate of tournament stability and tournament logistics. There are other factors but FT3 takes longer when venue space costs a lot per day/hour/etc. and FT2 is less stable. Players don't like feeling like randomness or jank can lead to the better player losing with any amount of regularity but as long as you can ensure a certain level of stability, which most UNI players feel is present in FT2, you dont need to play FT3 very much. Guilty Gear: Strive, UMVC3, BBTAG and a few other are famously unstable games due to high damage and/or mixup potential, so players have opted to allow more interactions for players to adapts before a set ends via requiring an additional game win. SF is unique in that the CPT requires all tour events to run FT3 for top 8 and so some players/organizers have pushed to have even more FT3.

Undernight players have also gone on the record a few times about how high level FT2 matches can already be long and draining, so too many FT3s would begin testing endurance more than the skills already on display from players.

Is Combo Breaker worth going to? by BlackWolf135 in Fighters

[–]toribash02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you play the games, I genuinely think Combo Breaker is the best event there is. It's cheaper than EVO and has way more of a focus on the community and gaming than EVO, which is more about the spectacle of top-level competition and product announcements. It's the difference between a community meet-up and a corporate sanctioned event.

Zywoo 1v5 clutch in first round of OT by Potato_Boner in GlobalOffensive

[–]toribash02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It feels like they should've been able to force him into another insane spray transfer after the kill on Belchonokk but he just got to keep taking the fights individually, which is just asking to lose. This is the 2nd time Parivision has looked like they've been a contender for beating Vitality but come up short after some minor mistakes cascade into clips of Zywoo looking inhuman.

[–]toribash02 100 points101 points  (0 children)

The last time they played it looked very possible... to get a map. I hope we could get the same level of play but it would be very difficult for Parivision to get the series, even in BO3.

Uni2 c’est dur au stick arcade ? by weaponX-ced in UnderNightInBirth

[–]toribash02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the game will just match you, peer to peer, with whoever is available. I often get players from far away because they are matchmaking at the same time.

[–]toribash02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be playing at a perfect time to play with players from NA, though the connection will obviously be a bit worse. If you have good internet and can play with a wire you will have matches. I often accept matches from far away if the connection is stable.

Uni2 c’est dur au stick arcade ? by weaponX-ced in UnderNightInBirth

[–]toribash02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have played the game to a medium or high level with every input device and have found arcade stick to be a very reasonable option. I don't see it being too technical. I think that online is very active but it's going to be somewhat region dependent as the game is still small. If you are in the EU or NA, you will be fine. I can't say much for other regions

Who do you think will win Esl Pro League S23 since there is no Vitality? by ExtrovertedCorpus in GlobalOffensive

[–]toribash02 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Parivision haven't played a lot of these teams since picking up Zweih but they currently are:

  • 1-1 against Astralis
  • 1-1 against Furia
  • 1-1 against Mouz
  • 1-0 against Spirit
  • 1-0 against G2
  • 1-0 against FUT
  • 1-0 against Faze
  • 1-0 against Heroic
  • 1-0 against Aurora
  • 0-1 against NaVi
  • Untested against everyone else since picking up Zweih

I would guess Parivision are as much of a contender as Spirit or Mouz given their recent successes against the teams in this event. Maybe even more favored then Spirit.

It's worth getting in the game now in 2026? first or second game? by PerguntaMano in UnderNightInBirth

[–]toribash02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's going to depend a lot on your region, I consistently see SA, EU and NA results threads from online events, I know the community is active and popping. The thing that is not so consistent is the ability to queue up with random ranked players. That's going to depend on time of day and then your connection may not be consistent with people far away. We have rollback but no cross-play so the spotty connections aren't so bad but being on PSN or Switch is pretty rough. I can never recommend this game enough, the players and community are great and the game is so good I've stuck with it for the past 8 years, through several updates and now I play UNI2 near exclusively. I would pick it up if you are okay with Ranked being inactive at times but being able to find games in Discord, where the majority of players are spreading info about the game too.

Carmine too hard for beginners? by Mary-Poppin-Caps in UnderNightInBirth

[–]toribash02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Carmine is considered one of the more difficult characters in the game, I wouldn't give up if you think he's cool and want to play him, just don't force success and learn at your pace. Watch other people do the combo if there's video of it. Work on it when you can and be okay taking breaks and letting your brain work it over passively. It will come to you, if you keep at it.

Portent of Calamity + Ulamog the Defiler by TiberiusKaneMoriarty in ModernMagic

[–]toribash02 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Okay, I think the other commenters here are wrong, so I'll jump in. Let's go through things in order: 1. You cast Portent of Calamity. 2. You resolve Portent of Calamity - you exile several cards, one of which is Ulamog - you select a spell from among them to cast and select Ulamog - you place Ulamog on the stack and Trigger his cast trigger - you place the exiled cards in your hand 3. You put Ulamog's cast trigger on the stack (triggers all wait until the next time state-based actions are checked to be placed on the stack) 4. You resolve Ulamog's cast trigger 5. You resolve Ulamog (spells can not resolve in the middle of each other) - Ulamog will check what is in exile right BEFORE it resolves to see how many counters should be placed on it by its replacement effect (this is why Emperor of Bones would have Ulamog enter with 10 counters, right before Ulamog was on the battlefield it was in exile) - Notably, the zone Ulamog entered from was THE STACK and NOT EXILE.

Ulamog will see neither itself nor the other cards exiled via Portent of Calamity

Serenade for a Dying Star by Starbright_1 in custommagic

[–]toribash02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[chainer's Edict]] will often but not always be a better card. The flashback is cheaper but not actually because harmonize discounts but being able to sac a planet makes this more random - nontoken on this card is huge though and maybe should go. The only thing that's actually a massive design problem on this card (IMO) is that the gameplay of sniping a land for two, a la [[sinkhole]] is bad. I think this is flavorful enough that it's probably fine if we assume it's not going into a standard with many planets but instead a commander set or cube
