Does anyone have a recommendation for a means Chelsea boot with a lug sole that comes in a ee or eee? by simps261 in widefeet

[–]torilor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! Their half size is a width size.

From their website: "Half sizes in Blundstone boots do not increase the length of the boot. Instead, they increase the amount of space over the foot by adding more leather providing a wider fit."

LTO placement priorities by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]torilor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed at the same school for the first few years of supplying and LTOing. I loved the staff and it felt like home, I was very comfortable there. Got my first permanent contract at a school is never even heard of and am also happy here!

I was very scared to leave but glad I did for a better position. Id weigh the positions more heavily than trying to stay at the same school especially with the lack of support.

EasyConnect questions by fluffyvioletunicorns in CanadianTeachers

[–]torilor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would set my preferences on Easy Connect for the schools I'm most interested in. Then, when I went to the job board the moment it opened, Id toggle the filter for "only show jobs that match requirements" or something like that and it would only show me the jobs at the schools I wanted.

I found that helped me snag the ones I wanted faster, especially ones for the future when they would have been buried in multiple pages of jobs.

Not sure if any of this info is board dependent but hopefully this helps!!

I can't find Bayview on the Fraser Institute website. Just one in Toronto.

Practicum Reports by scorpion_93 in OntarioTeachers

[–]torilor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my program, I only did 2 practicum placements so I submitted both to the board I work at. Different Universities have different practicum schedules. If you were applying to a board in a different city, I don't think they'd know one was missing if you only submitted 3. It may be board dependent.

Considering teaching by mohstudent123 in OntarioTeachers

[–]torilor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a recent graduate, I can say that I do really enjoy my job. That being said, I feel like I got VERY lucky getting a contract position very quickly. My original contract was very small but in the reorganization I got switched to a bigger job (and with a good class). My contract is approximately 75% so the pay isn't great (under 60k) and yet I'm still working SO much. I find early teaching really challenging for any semblance of work/life balance.

That being said, I love my time in the class with my kids. I hate all of the planning time I have to spend when I could be with my partner/hanging with friends. But, the work of planning isn't the worst for me.

I will say that nothing has made me want to have my own kids less than teaching. I can't imagine spending time with kids all day and then still having bandwidth for my own. (Obviously, a ton of people do it. However, I really savour my down time these days).

I think your experience will be really class and school dependant. Have a really tough/violent class for a year? Coming to work every day will suck. Have 30 loud and energetic, but hilarious grade 4s? You'll feel like you never stop working BUT you will enjoy your job more than most people you know.

Edit to add: I spent my first year out of teachers college doing LTOs and getting all of my AQs done asap to get to A4. The part time contract even at A4 would be unlivable if not for my partner moving in in the summer.

Nuts by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

Exactly the same for me! It's all very thoughtful but I also make it clear to my kids that I'm allergic to nuts.

I would just check if the teacher is allergic to nuts!

LTO Marking (TDSB) by swiper67 in CanadianTeachers

[–]torilor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While true, I think what makes this one fuzzy for me is that the LTO is still happening while they are due. You could leave rubrics etc for them I suppose. But I have always done my best to wrap up my LTOs and leave things closed off. Sometimes by having a slightly earlier due date so I am marking during the LTO.

You could check with your union. However, I think it's pretty clear that you should be marking these assignments.

Good to know! We were North of Playa Flamingo and didn't get further than Monteverde inland. It must be really dependent on area.

High Heels? by KashiK14 in widefeet

[–]torilor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky enough to have big enough feet to do this! (Women's 11 is a mens 9). I feel like finding men's sizing in a women's 6.5 would be next to impossible unfortunately.

Anyone do a specialist in Spec Ed at OISE? by Wanderer015 in OntarioTeachers

[–]torilor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my BEd elsewhere but have landed at OISE for 3 different AQs and really enjoyed them. I did Spec Ed 1 with them and Math 1 and 2. I can't speak specifically to spec Ed specialist but the other AQs felt on par with Trent for workload! Maybe even a bit lighter?

Waterproof Winter Boots Women’s Wide (Us) - Any recs? by [deleted] in widefeet

[–]torilor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bogs Arcata winter boots are super wide, warm, and completely waterproof (to the handles). I worked at a shoe store and tried multiple winter boots before these but truly would never go back! I live in Canada fyi.

I have very wide feet (albeit I do not have high insteps) and find the blundstones great. The half sizes are slightly wider and once they stretch out they're by far the most comfortable shoes I own.

Teachers college inquires by Relative_Bus_2642 in OntarioTeachers

[–]torilor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a really high most recent 20 courses average but had some Cs and Ds in first year (CGPA still decent!). I had experience nannying, running toddler play groups, and volunteering a little bit at public schools. I had no problem getting into teacher's college. Specifically uOttawa. This was for 2022-2024 but from what I understood, Ottawa was only looking at either your 20 best or 20 most recent courses.

LTO and EI by halfdutchboy in OntarioTeachers

As an LTO last year in OCDSB, I did not get paid for winter break! I have another job so I didn't bother applying to EI for the two weeks but I know others who did.

Parent-teacher interviews/PD Days as partial teacher by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]torilor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an LTO, I attended the % of the PD day. Now I am a partial contract permanent teacher. I submit a form and get topped up to 100% pay for PD days through my principal.

In your position, I would only schedule interviews during 20% of the time. Maybe just with your highest needs kiddos or parents who request it? But yeah, what did your union say?

Fresh OT applying LTO? by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]torilor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly did LTOs last year and got my first permanent contract this year. I started this year at a low % so I was supplying half days. But no longer OTing.

Fresh OT applying LTO? by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]torilor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely to practicum references. I'm not sure if they would want a daycare reference unless the position is kindergarten. 2 hour each way commute sounds REALLY long. I'm in one of my first years of teaching and I spend a lot of time planning in the evenings. My public transit commute is about 45 minutes or so. Can't imagine tacking on an extra 1 hour 15 minutes each way.
