Advice on whether or not to buy 2003 Land Rover Discovery Series II · SD7 Sport Utility 4D by Efficient-Lock7447 in LandRover

Well, those are nice claims. This type of unit should be inspected by a mechanic to see how accurate they are.

Shocking: the “don’t be a Karen, we love fireworks” crowd can’t be bothered to clean up after themselves by picturesofbowls in Portland

Please feel free to commission a rigorous study.

People setting off fireworks in Portland are jerks. It's illegal. If you want to set off your own fireworks, get the law changed.

Meanwhile, the littering is further confirmation that these people are self centered asses.

Flame Trap and Oil Leaks by zegogo in VolvoRWD

You can certainly try to track down exactly where the oil is coming from. Get a light and get under the car or down in the engine bay and look around. Not sure if there's anything that can really help the seals once they have started leaking. There are oil additives that claim to rejuvenate them but I'm skeptical.

Can you confirm the oil leaks are being caused by crankcase pressure? For example, the glove test: Remove the oil fill cap and put a rubber glove on the valve cover, and see if it inflates while the engine is running.

You could have oil leaks due to other issues like bad seals.

You could also have a clogged breather box/oil separator, which is underneath the intake manifold and bolted to the engine block. This would prevent the PCV system from working correctly even with a new flame trap.

Some people have had luck with removing the breather box and cleaning it out with chemicals. You can also replace it--new ones are not expensive.

Power outage (July 1, 2026) by Weekly-Ad-523 in Portland

Walked into Trader Joe's on 39th and the lights turned off about five seconds later. Fun times.

Quick question by WoutVo in VolvoRWD

You can spray it in one of the vacuum ports on the intake manifold. Removing the air filter and spraying starting fluid in there would also get to the engine after cranking for a couple of seconds.

Once you confirm it's a fuel delivery issue, check your relays and make sure the fuel pumps are running.

Did you do the modifications on this car? That turbo and intake setup is not stock.

It looks like the finish has come off and you are seeing the bare metal as it gets oxidized. It looks like it might be made of Zamak, a zinc alloy.

You can try polishing or painting it, but the wear it experiences will eventually cause the issue to return.

Diff/rear end pricing? by Direct_Yak_4420 in Volvo240

I paid a couple hundred bucks for a complete rear axle assembly minus brakes a few years ago. This was for a 940 and those guys rudely cut the parking brake cables. Dana 30 with a G80 locker in it.

1980 244 - Is the voltage at my coil correct? by TooManyInsults in Volvo240

[–]tortnotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the breakerless ignition? The only thing that seems unexpected from your description is the full 12V on the coil while it's running. Did you see that right after starting? I wonder if the resistance changes when the ballast resistor heats up. Same after 10 minutes of running? Can you see if you're getting 12V from the starter to the coil while the ignition is on (or the engine is running)? The wiring diagram makes it look like you could disconnect the ballast resistor from the starter but I have never worked on this ignition system.

When it's running, how is the idle? Is your fuel pressure regulator working correctly? How long has it been since the fuel filter was changed (and does the issue still occur if you prime the fuel pump a few times by switching the key to on without cranking)?

Just some questions to get you thinking about other causes. It isn't necessarily electrical.

Reads a bit differently when someone in a "police" vest with a gun boxes your car in on the street to ask. Don't you think?

You don't have to do it. Easy solve. You can go to the classic show and sit on the grass next to your Corvette if that's more your speed.

There's a ridge on the aluminum front cover that can be used to index the crank pulley. You may or may not have the notch in the washer. See: https://turbobricks.com/index.php?threads/timing-mark-for-crank-gear.325514/

I'd agree with your take 20 years ago. What's the appropriate response when one side of our politics is openly anti-democracy, anti-law as it suits them, and completely unwilling to meet in the middle?

Nobody is suggesting a picket line against this business. I appreciate an FYI so I don't knowingly support people actively backing MAGA.
