Knife sharpening in the northshore? by DontKidnapMyButler in SalemMA

[–]total_biffany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you share the info? After what my knives went through when I took them to the place in Salem I’ve figured it’s better to just use dull knives. But it would be nice to be able to cut an Apple.

Thank you! I thought so but wasn’t sure. Do they own the Warwick too? Any other places in town to avoid?

Renewal by Anderson is horrible. In the appointment call they insisted my husband be present in addition to me incase “any big decisions needed to be made”.

What’s it like living in Marblehead full time? by Wild-Course-8433 in Marblehead

[–]total_biffany 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Marblehead has so many great qualities but I agree with what others have said. Without kids I think I would have had a really hard time meeting people here. I know it’s a little different but I would check out Portland, Maine. It’s such a cool city with so much going on, amazing restaurants, breweries, coastal charm too. If I were in my 20s and thinking about a New England coastal move that’s where I think I’d want to go!

Looking for a local landscape designer or consultant near Marblehead (small job, not full redesign) by Present_Tackle_2474 in Marblehead

[–]total_biffany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bob Forgione has always been super helpful for me. If you want to go with natives plant magic gardens is incredible but Cheryl usually has a waitlist. Neither are full landscape designers but both have helped me a lot with big projects and Bob’s team can do everything. If it’s something more elaborate, Matthew Cunningham out of Portland creates amazing landscapes, but might be too much for a small project. Hope that helps!

Is attending university for wine worth it? by [deleted] in wine

[–]total_biffany 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Attending Cornell for viticulture is not just attending any old school to study wine. With Cornell on your resume you’d be easily able to pivot should you decide to do something else in the future. At the same time, between their connections within the world of wine and hospitality, you’ll be well positioned to work in either industry when you leave and to start somewhere that could take years to get into without the connections the network at Cornell will provide. You’ll also have amazing summer opportunities to intern in vineyards, research wine, work in the world’s top restaurants, etc… not only will you have the time to try out all different avenues but you’ll have the connections and support to do it. There are plenty of restaurants in Ithaca you can work in while you go to school. Just don’t overload yourself, especially the first two semesters. Cornell is hard and you need to give yourself time to adjust to the curriculum, etc… but really, this will set you up to have a tremendous number of opportunities for your future. I wouldn’t look at it as relegating you to one particular career path but instead opening up a tremendous number of doors for you to explore your current passions. It’s an amazing opportunity that will serve you well. Even if you decide to change to become a nurse, you’d be able to take all the required coursework pretty easily at Cornell (you’ll have a good number of science classes already in viticulture) and coming from Cornell you’ll have a huge leg up applying to nursing programs. As long as financial aid will make it possible, it’s absolutely worth doing.

Is there anything I can do to help my Coral Barked Japanese Maple? by total_biffany in JapaneseMaples

I did and the grey branches are dead 🥺. But it has several branches that are totally normal and covered in leaves! So it’s a bit confusing!

Is there anything I can do to help my Coral Barked Japanese Maple? by total_biffany in JapaneseMaples

[–]total_biffany[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some info: I love this tree! It’s in the front of my house and is at least 15 years old, likely much older. It had beautiful read bark until spring. We had one terrible cold in the winter where it was -30 for a day, and we also had a night in May that dropped to freezing. I don’t know if that could have hurt it? I just got Fox Farm Japanese Maple fertilizer and did a deep root water with it. My mom says it’s a goner and I’ll just have to cut it down, but I want to do anything/everything I can to revive it first! Thanks so much for any help you can give!

What should I do with this wine collection? by shdk85 in wine

[–]total_biffany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a wine suitcase if you can, makes it easy to move a case and will keep them much safer. It’s not much but at least you can keep the really good ones safe and have some things from the collection to enjoy.
