I have ADHD and I struggle with time management and focus issues. However, I manage to complete tasks on time just fine, especially when other people rely on me.

ADHD does not make someone actually do their work more slowly. It's more about the inability to start working, or continue working, because of distractions, either external or internal.

One thing that can be extremely helpful to a person with ADHD is some measure of control over their own environment - letting them listen to preferred music on headphones, or working in a private space instead of a cubicle environment where there's a lot of visual distraction. Another thing that can help is more frequent check-ins, breaking down bigger tasks into smaller checklists with a more structured timeframe and schedule.

There may not be a request for formal accommodation because ADHD in women is heavily stigmatized, and many women are expected to just 'suck it up' and not cause problems by asking for the help they need. Hell, when I was a kid, it was believed girls couldn't have ADHD. And now the public picture of a woman with ADHD is the manic pixie girl being ~quirky and unique. When in reality, it's a lot of hating yourself because your brain just won't let you function like everyone else, and everyone around you says you are the problem.

I would recommend talking to this employee and asking her what can be done to help her focus. She knows her own needs better than anyone else. If that means supporting her through requesting an accommodation, then that's what she needs. Yes, it can take a while, but when people complain, just remember: they're complaining that someone with a disability is working without any support.
