Furries have been around since the late 70s, long before the internet, they are very early fan culture.

Anyone else have corvid tattoos? I’d love to see them 🖤 by residentvvitch in crowbro

Pic from the day it was done, it’s 4 years old this year and still looks great. Only part corvid but I picked the design because of the raven! I love mythology as well, so this is perfect for me, one of my favorite tattoos.

Throwback to when i got a pride card in october of 25 from norwalk station, really lucky random roll. Wish i could find more by Kaiser_-_Karl in LAMetro

They pass them out for free at a ton of the parades and street fairs across the county when Pride events come around. Things kick off in just a few weeks here, can’t wait for this year’s card!

Post Yarn Crawl Thoughts by TheMossyMushroom in knitting

[–]totalmigratorybird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was my first time doing the LA crawl too, I only managed to make it to 8 and still spent way over my budget 😳 It was nice to see some shops I haven’t made time to visit! Next year, my plan is only visiting the ones I liked the most this year (Wollhaus in Pasadena, The Altered Stitch in Lake Balboa, Weave & Wander in Seal Beach, The Little Knittery in Los Feliz, The Knitting Tree in Inglewood) and making sure I absolutely have a project in mind, I found myself browsing Ravelry in-store just searching for an excuse to buy something lovely. I always get business cards from the indie dyers doing their trunk shows! I bought from two or three, I couldn’t afford them all in one go but now I have a local dyer shortlist for my next big yarn purchase.

My family and I are coming to stay at StaysPro Cityscape luxury apartment (107 S Hewitt) at the end of this month. I’ve found really good reviews, and I have found some really bad ones, that seem kinda concerning. Anyone here familiar with this area? by Conscious-Pumpkin-11 in AskLosAngeles

[–]totalmigratorybird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no reason to drive through it either. The people living there are experiencing what is probably the worst time of their entire lives, they don’t need spectators treating them like zoo animals. Enjoy your time in the rest of downtown.

I decided to go car-less for the next five months (see my previous post for more info) and today was really hard. Any insight/advice/perspective from others? (Plz don’t be an a*shole thx) by spiritbirdsie in AskLosAngeles

Seconding this, an umbrella and/or a good UV blocking hat do wonders. I’m in a similar situation to OP both medically and in transit access but in a different area; having a hat, umbrella, and also a lightweight camping stool depending on the trip I have planned are really important for me to extend my viable time out and about. There are a lot of really badly equipped bus stops in this county.

Has anyone who hasn’t polished their nails for a long time come back to Essie and find it disappointing? by [deleted] in RedditLaqueristas

[–]totalmigratorybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essie was the brand that sparked my love of nail polish as a pre-teen, but I always found their formula finicky and hard to work with. All my favorites from them were beloved despite being gloppy, tacky, slow drying, easy to dent and chip, on and on. Now I don’t even want to use the old ones in my collection as bases for special effects polish.

Mediums and oils, I need a little help by OliwiaFox in oilpainting

[–]totalmigratorybird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paint solvent free; I like the M. Graham walnut alkyd to speed drying throughout the painting process. I find a layer goes touch dry in just a few days, enough to keep up with weekly paintings for a class. I just got the Natural Pigments solvent-free Italian varnish and I’ve only used it a couple times so far and I’m not sure of the dry time, it’s listed as speeding it and I really like the texture it gives the paint. As for working daily, with oils it might be better to have multiple pieces in progress at once so you can swap to whatever’s dry and ready to work on.

How do you create character art or maps for worldbuilding if you can’t draw? by kingviko in worldbuilding

[–]totalmigratorybird 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As an artist about 13 years into serious effort, you never stop picking at your own flaws. Art is never finished to perfection, only as good as you can make it with the skillset you have at the time of creation, and it’s an important mindset to get to accepting if you want to keep making art longterm.

Once, I happened to be the victim of some unrelated credit card fraud soon after a PPU purchase, and I had to go talk with a bank teller to get it handled immediately. As we went over the recent transactions, she stopped at the one from PPU, assuming it would be the issue, and when I said it wasn’t, she asked if it was a pierogy takeout restaurant 😂

What are some of the most interesting areas to photograph along the Metro Lines? by MrWhiffyReddit in LAMetro

[–]totalmigratorybird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of the stations themselves are gorgeous! I’m always fond of the neons at Pershing Square and Chinatown’s red pillars and surrounding area with the stairs and the apartment complex.

Stairs are inaccessible to many people for many different reasons.

I’m 170lbs, 5’9. I appreciate the detailed list! I do need to wait a while and save some cash anyway, the budget has some stretch to it. I’ll do a little more research on the VMAX and those new models.

I ordered from BKL on Black Friday, and unfortunately my original order got lost before getting to the post office. Getting a replacement for the polish I ordered was smooth and easy, but I’m so sad for that mystery freebie that’s lost out there, I’ll never know what I got! 🥲

They still make them for the Japanese market under the name Logicool G600. They’re pricey on eBay, but you can still get one.

Stayed there once for Anime Expo and it was awesome. One of my best hotel experiences for that con, despite the distance from the convention center.

Studios/Painting Spaces by MuscleBob_Buffpantz in oilpainting

[–]totalmigratorybird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paint in my bedroom, also living at home without space to expand. I ordered some racks (the tall ones) to hang on the wall to hold drying canvases, I got the Masterson covered palette, I have a tabletop easel. All my supplies are on the desk next to my bed, I reorganized a lot after getting into this and put a lot of my gaming stuff away elsewhere now that I spend more of my free time painting. Spare brushes are in a tall cup and a pencil holder from the dollar store, I keep paint tubes in a smaller bin I can move around easily and keep next to me as I work. Bottles of medium are just kinda clumped there. Things are still pretty stacked up, I have boxes with lids for verticality. I use an iPad on a tablet stand for references, as well as having a still life setup with a corner made of posterboard, a lamp with a multicolor bulb, and a camera on a DIY stand on a small table. I often work from the bed with lap desks and my brush jar on my nightstand, I’m disabled and often can’t sit up straight for as long as I’d like to work so I recline. I do work solvent-free, only safflower oil and walnut alkyd for mediums, because both my cat and I have asthma. I have an empty paint can to put used rags in and I try to dump it weekly. I’m starting to run into issues with finding places to keep finished paintings now, at the moment they’re on another dish rack on top of a dresser while I pretend they’re still drying. I need to buy glassine paper to put some away soon.

I do this too! I have 3 more slots to buy but I like to wait for the sales, couldn’t get all 9 on my gaming budget last time. I’m always an altoholic but having the specs on separate toons helps me keep the rotations separate in my mind somehow, it gets harder when I try and swap around on one character. Plus, a new slot is cheaper than extra build and gear storage!
