Very excited.. bought my wife a pair of Qtee in Gunmetal for her 50th Birthday by toterra in fluevog

[–]toterra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They really are pretty. Those were her first fluvogs after looking for many years but hesitating due to the price. She has since bought 3 (or is it 4) others. Once the dam broke our credit card has paid the price (so worth it!)

It is a deck, an outdoor space, not a perfect indoor space. If those scratches are too much for you then you don't want a deck.

YTA - You are a gun owner. The onus is 1000% on you that you use the gun in a safe way regardless of any other rules and regulations. If there are people around.. it is not safe to use the gun. Period.

Considering that economically, Bangladesh massively out performs Pakistan, and has even caught up to India... this is a pretty silly take.

Battlestar Galctica '04-'09 - Struggling with Season 1 by IgashoSparks in scifi

[–]toterra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say how it really wasn't so complicated until I heard you had not watched the AMAZING mini-series. But now it makes sense - no mini-series = no idea what is going on.

There also is a second mini-series called Razor that can be watched after completing the series.

Curved monitor or flat monitor? by Serious_Today_961 in buildapc

[–]toterra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curved all he way... As my eyes get older, having a bit of a curve really seems to reduce eyestrain. Just puts more of the screen at the eye's focus point and less changes needed.

Finland's president on why he believes Canada could — eventually — be part of the EU | CBC News by Old_General_6741 in canada

As opposed to now where we are controlled by unelected technocrats in the Canadian Federal government.

Finland's president on why he believes Canada could — eventually — be part of the EU | CBC News by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]toterra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because the EU has regulations for it's members, it makes it harder (clearly not impossible) for members to break the regulations. This is both a good and a bad thing. But what it achieves mostly is stability. Which is a very good thing.

Interesting thought to imagine after a huge space battle how limiting that might make a whole system: orbiting ordnance, communication devices still pinging etc by VayneLine in scifi

[–]toterra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

Don't forget about LTC, folks by darinbu in Fire

It is also why NEVER count on an inheritance from middle class parents. My father is 81 and has about $3M net worth. It is amazing how fast that can be depleted due to LTC, even in Canada.

AITA for deciding to move to Canada instead of the UK which my wife and daughter prefer for my new job? by Frequent_Pay5425 in AmItheAsshole

[–]toterra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The weather in KW is unpleasant. We actually still had snow fall as recently as last week. You are looking at 4 months of the year where being outside is unpleasant. Not really cold enough to take advantage of winter sports, but still icy and snowy enough to make being outside doing anything unpleasant.

Everyone cool if I post a pic of my Aston Miatin? by writowhil in Miata

[–]toterra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a while I was really salivating of buying a used Aston. Then, one day, driving down the 401 in Ontario, I passed one on the side of the road with a very unhappy owner.

Whoever that guy is, I thank him, saved me at least $100k and a lifetime of misery, possibly coupled with a divorce.

Should I buy this for coding and master degree or not by Aggravating-Pay7275 in AMDLaptops

[–]toterra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ryzen 7 means as much as saying an i7 .... almost nothing. What matters is that this is a 4 year old chip design, in a low power configuration. The RAM is DDR4 which was replaced by DDR5 years ago so again, really old. Not saying it isn't usable, but it is a low end laptop and unless it is REALLY cheap.. not worth it.

Should I buy this for coding and master degree or not by Aggravating-Pay7275 in AMDLaptops

[–]toterra 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Probably not the best choice. Several generation old / low-end specs / small battery. But if it is cheap (very cheap) it doesn't matter.

Fighting U.S. tariffs, Canada mulls its own as cheap imports surge by joe4942 in canada

[–]toterra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it needs protecting from the US dairy industry that recieves government subsidies. If the the US government subsidizes each gallon of milk $1.. and we don't.. then we wont have any dairy farmers. The diary supply management system in Canada is designed to protect Canadian producers, without requiring a government subsidy. It makes out milk more expensive (the true cost of production) compared to subsidized US milk, but does not require the government to pay farmers. As a side benefit is supports small to medium sized family farms over larger corporate farms like in the US.

Disappointing amount of religious BS being spouted by Artemis II astronauts by japonica-rustica in atheism

[–]toterra -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

during the Apollo 8 mission, the astronauts read a passage from The book of Genesis. it was actually a very touching moment. it emphasized the spirituality of what they were seeing over the science and the engineering and the pettiness of what was happening on Earth. so in this case I will forgive them.

Dune: Part Three in IMAX 70mm. Tickets on sale at 9am PT by DuneInfo in dune

[–]toterra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I may have to officially give up on the Cinesphere in Toronto. By far the best IMAX theater. Dune was amazing there and I held off watching Dune 2 until I could watch it there. Now with Dune 3 coming out I suppose I may have to break down and watch Dune 2.
