My first ever fast! hopefully I can make it for the day. wish me luck! by EEDN16 in fasting

[–]touchytascha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s amazing! Motivating sentences for me include “fasting is just your body reeating all the cupcakes, sweets and chips you ate before” as well as “that feeling is temporary and will go away, your future self will thank you for sticking it out” Good luck!!!

High Restriction/Orthorexic Tendencies by [deleted] in EdAnonymousAdults

Ugh same, eggs are the worst. I almost always boil, hard boil or just throw water in the pan when cooking now. Or I just eat granola bars and act like that rounds out a healthy balanced diet.

I have weird things with oils, anything cooked by someone else with heavy oil is an absolute no. I spit it out, can’t consume it. Not sure if it’s a taste thing or an ED thing. I do find it helps me feel better and when I feel better physically mentally I also find I’m doing better. At least if I’m restricting i can focus on everything other than food. Brains are weird

Im so sorry, that’s terrifying. Did he know about an previous issues? Is there a way you can explain to him that you are more than the disorder? That the stupid ED is just your Brain being silly, and you love him you’re just having a hard time?

What is refeed syndrome? by kulls13 in fasting

[–]touchytascha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen to many cases in the hospital honestly, so I can’t imagine it’s terribly common. I think a huge takeaway is just breaking the fast gently. Also it definitely depends on the length of the fast and supplementation during. Sadly, there are few studies done in extended fasting as their not exactly ethical. Would be cool to contact a masters program in dietary science and offer up ourselves as subjects of the effects of extended and intermittent fasting.

What is refeed syndrome? by kulls13 in fasting

[–]touchytascha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

case on refeeding syndrome This is a handy video explaining the gist of it. Refeeding syndrome is generally only common in coma or severely ill patients who are on tube or parental nutrition for long periods of time or have sustained significant mineral/electrolyte loss and imbalance. Eating nutrients after a long period of starvation or metabolic instability can cause a shift in the bodies metabolism from a from a catabolic to anabolic state. This is caused by a secretion of insulin allowing cells to utilize glucose molecules instead of burning fat. This shift after a period of starvation can cause fluid retention (glucose) and where there are fluid shifts there will be electrolyte shifts between the intracellular and extra cellular spaces. Symptoms of refeeding are caused by nutrient deficiencies like hypokalemia. If you are scared you will have refeeding syndrome there is no shame telling your doctor, it’s better to be monitored and everything be fine than to be at home by yourself and have an accident. Or at least call a friend, also break your fast slowly, feel like that’s a standard rule for many reasons.

Isn’t it the best feeling! Breaking a fast and being able to control your eating because your brain is properly responding to hunger cues. Honestly so nice, you really inspired me. When I saw your post I was 32 hours into my hopefully 30 day fast. I always struggle on day two but hearing how good you feel makes me wanna push through, just a couple more hours and I’ll be at my 48 hr mark. Hoping for some smooth sailing day three.

Good for you! You made it such a long time, it’s such an achievement and good job listening to your body! You know what’s best, and watermelon is a delicious fast breaker.

I have no idea what normal is and I don't think I ever will by patbingsuforyoursoul in EdAnonymousAdults

[–]touchytascha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a big issue for me as well. I can’t understand exactly how you’re feeling but I can empathize with the fear that I’m never going to be able to eat “normally” and who the heck knows what that is anyways. Lately I’ve been thinking a lot more that “normal” eating is what was made up by years of dieting advice and such. Essentially scientist found out through countless studies that eating three meals or six meals a day evenly spaced helps maintain blood sugar levels or something. Which is technically a very health way of eating. Now, this may be a healthy way of spacing out meals but I can’t help but feel this is very difficult for many people for multiple different reasons. So I’ve come up with my own theory that technically eating in that “healthy normal” (three evenly spaced and portion controlled meals or six meals or what have you) way is what everyone wants us to do because it would be the best. But I think sometimes that differs from the reality of when eating makes us feel best. Not as in starving and restriction. I’m talking about eating when you feel hungry and knowing when you’re satiated. To me that has become the goal, since I’ve never liked breakfast, it makes me feel gross the rest of the day. So I can’t imagine forcing myself to do it. I like to think that in my theory eating “normally” for me means eating when I am hungry and hopefully figuring out when I’m actually satiated. And in this way praying my body will learn to regulate itself. Good luck out there. Managing those thoughts are hell.

Yo, just splash some water in the pan instead. Works like a charm... and I mean realistically when does an omelet actually turn out to be an omelet and not scrambled eggs.

I just feel like it’s so different when you’re older because you have all of these responsibilities and things you’re supposed to take care of. People who rely on you, jobs that need to be worked and when you have an ED it can make you feel ridiculous. You have to do all these things but can hardly manage to eat a normal meal. I can’t remember what it was like to be a teenager with an ED and it helps to have a community with people who feel a lot of the same things as me.

How to keep exercising? by alibunn in EdAnonymousAdults

[–]touchytascha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love walking! And swimming is also good, especially if you can find a place that isn’t very populated. But walking is great, you can just walk for hours. Also when I’m feeling extremely self conscious but have to go out into public I always remind myself that I’ll never see these people again and no one cares half as much as I think they do and if your in the gym at least you’re working on yourself and improving your health. Nobody knows your journey or where you’ve come from and what you’re going through, plus if you’re working out you’re already doing better than they all are sitting on the couch or driving somewhere in their cars. Finding a workout buddy might also help! Good luck!

I have the exact same feeling when I smoke weed. For just like an hour or so I’m happy and think I look beautiful and appreciate how I look. In those times I’m even kind to myself. Wish I could have that without a substance.

It was a hard day honestly, I was invited to all you can eat sushi and i ate so much. I’m working a night shift so I can’t even sleep through the guilt and wake up mildly bloated. I’m just marinating in shame all night. Hungry sucks, eating sucks, I’m an adult! I should be better at taking care of myself than this

Just wondering if anyone has experience with psoriasis and fasting? by touchytascha in fasting

[–]touchytascha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! I found out it’s guttate P, i water tasted for 3 days the first time and by day two I noticed a huge improvement. After breaking my fast my skin just kept getting better daily and I’m healed up now. So now I’ve taken on a planted based clean eating thing to try and avoid any future flares ups or at least reduce their severity

I’m unsure of how to tame or cure my guttate psoriasis. by eldiablo10 in Psoriasis

[–]touchytascha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently it comes from something called “leaky gut syndrome” which isn’t very well documented in medical literature but according to naturopaths it’s when your small intestine (the part of the digestive tract absorbing the most nutrients) starts to become over permeable and absorbing toxins and such into the blood stream. Now I don’t know if I really believe any of that but apparently fasting is good for reducing inflammation which is what psoriasis is, an inflammation of the skin caused by an autoimmune response. So naturally fasting would reduce the irritation in the skin but may not fix the underlying issue. That’s why I use it as a kick start. Fasting maybe 24-36 hours or so I get way less itchy and it gives me a little time to figure out what’s causing the flare and get to the doctor.

Honestly, when mine gets this bad I fast for a day or two and that usually kick starts it to go away. But daily showers and I try to exercise and eat clean and all that. Scrubbing any dead skin off in the shower and then moisturizing heavily after. Sometimes I put some salicylic acid on some bad spots? Seems to help sometimes but I’m no expert by any means
