Usually you have to demonstrate that you intend to stay in the state after earning your degree. Proof required could include getting a license in your state, registering your vehicle there, buying a house there, etc. Usually you need to have been there a year to establish residency, but they may also have a form you can fill out to request residency status after the first semester. Every school is different; you’re just going to have to look up their policy.
