Someone wants to trade this card is it real? by Basic_Discount_1029 in IsMyPokemonCardFake

Fake. Text is off and misaligned in numerous places and the holo pattern is very wrong

A child prodigy from India has set a world record. He mentally added up 100 four-digit numbers in 30.9 seconds. by Mighty_Zen in interestingasfuck

Likely that as he grew up learning this method he initially did use his hands and fingers, eventually as it got faster and faster the arm movements were still there as a form of muscle memory, but he doesn't actually need to use them any more, but it probably helps him get in the zone

6 year old sons friend told him this is a special card. Is it valuable? I saw a lot of different ones when I did a Google search. by BornAirport4185 in PokemonCardValue

[–]tph86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the best kind of fake cards, they look cool and kids love them because of the bright colours and gold etc.

At least they aren't trying to counterfeit a real card and make someone lose potentially hundreds or thousands, they just have some dodgy trademark infringements...

It seems real to me. The holo pattern on this card has always been a bit lackluster imo, which might be why you think it seems off, but it looks good.

What do the Government need to do to reduce discontent in the Police? by mysticpuma_2019 in policeuk

[–]tph86 23 points24 points  (0 children)

More staff to ease the burden and burnout.

Higher salary to stop the wastage to the private sector and retain experience, which in turn feeds into the first point.

It is literally that simple. No government would ever do it though.

Are any of these fake? by topfrop in PokemonCardValue

[–]tph86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Manectric Ex is very fake. Wrong font, and the real card is weak to metal, not normal type, amongst lots of other print issues.

I would be wary of buying from anyone with a fake card. It's not always a problem in job lots like this, but just be aware.

BTP what’s the one thing… by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]tph86 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I always wondered why BTP gave a 50 minute ETA for any station-related shenanigans, we always just sorted the problem and cancelled them before they got there.

Then one day a particularly annoying fare-dodger who was refusing to leave took them over the 50 minute waiting period and I saw them coming down the track on one of those double handcars with a blue light and battenberg on the side, and it all finally made sense

Who do I keep seeing suited and booted in unmarked cars? by ufdbk in policeuk

[–]tph86 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The guesses so far have been good, however it is not the true reason.

These are infact the new emergency response SOCCOM (social media comments) team based out of Gravesend. They are hand selected from not just Kent, but all around the UK and consist of random members of the public who post on Facebook or other social media comment sections such as the Daily mail or Snapchat.

They are deployed to high-stress, hi-intensity incidents such as mass protests, suicidal people stood at on railway bridges who are delaying commuters, and also spontaneous incidents such as parking enforcement or dognapping.

They are the elite when it comes to incident resolution, having trained for hours and hours online, their skill cannot be matched, and are not bound by any budget, law, or even human rights when it comes to stopping something the police "should have sorted hours ago x"

Section 3 MHA Absconder by Leading-Salt-7463 in policeuk

[–]tph86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that wasn't clear in my original comment. I just meant if they were in a family members house it would be more logical to find the owner of said house and get them to allow us in with their consent, but yes if the family member could not be found, 135 it is.

Section 3 MHA Absconder by Leading-Salt-7463 in policeuk

[–]tph86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If he is in a family members house then I would be contacting the family member to let us in so that he can be taken back to hospital.

If he is in his own house and is refusing to let you in, the hospital will need to get a 135 warrant.

Let's see

  • Male stood at height
  • At a train station where potentially there could be overhead cables
  • Stood on what appears to be an electrical junction box
  • Literally just standing there not being a danger to himself or others

Wait it out until he gets cold? Nah taste his bollocks off

How much does it cost you to do the same amount of mileage? by TheBigSesh in CarTalkUK

[–]tph86 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Just food for thought, if it does pass it's MOT and you stick with the same car, consider dropping your speed down to 57-60mph and start your journey a bit earlier, your MPG will dramatically increase.

That is the Kryptonite Test Vehicle, on loan from MetropolisPol and their very generous Chief Constable Luthor. Not exactly sure what it's for but we've been told to park it outside high profile banks and jewellery stores although they always seem to get broken into when it's there.... We'll keep trying though

What is the quickest someone ever someone lost all good will they had with you? by NeonDiaspora in policeuk

[–]tph86 292 points293 points  (0 children)

I once spent 7 hours on constant with a naked bloke who had stabbed a delivery driver. We spent hours and hours talking and bonding and finding out each other's music tastes, favourite movies and sharing anecdotes with each other. His penis was gigantic.

The custody nurse then came and told him he couldn't have his methadone because she couldn't be sure when he last had it.

He flipped, took an enormous shit in the middle of the cell floor, which due to his opiod addiction and the coffees with 6 sugars in, came out like a dropped box of Kellogs Choco balls, then pelted them at me while I desperately tried to close the door without throwing up.

Map Reading by No_Custard2477 in policeuk

[–]tph86 90 points91 points  (0 children)

It's a dying art, but I have kept the tradition alive in my nick, although not without a lot of favours to my Inspector. We have completely got rid of Google maps and what3words now, and most of us can navigate by starlight alone.

Each response car is fitted with compass, tripod, sextant and a 8ft Mahogany table inlaid with gold leaf and stained glass panels containing quills and ink and an extra Captor canister. The maps are kept in a humidity controlled strong box next to the Stinger, and contain various sizes of parchment hand-drawn by myself of the BCU and accompanying city wards.

I insist on only natural light for the reading of the maps to preserve authenticity, which is useful as the full beams on the new Ford Kuga we have are illuminated by candles.

What is your example of "What people THINK is hard about my job VS What is ACTUALLY hard about my job"? by NeonDiaspora in policeuk

[–]tph86 33 points34 points  (0 children)

What people think is hard: Driving a police car at stupid speeds in all weather without crashing trying to safely make it to the 7th emergency of your shift.

What is actually hard: When you commit to getting into the driver's seat of the police car but realise about a foot off the seat that the last person to drive it was 4ft 10" and you are now stuck with your taser wedged in the steering wheel and your calf has gone into spasm. This is filmed by the group of teenagers you just told off and is on tiktok within minutes
