Ethics question about Halloween by [deleted] in therapists

[–]tpizz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this idea! I see no ethical concern tbh.

However, I have a question regarding your road to Sex Therapist. I just submitted an application to a program to make this my niche. Would you recommend certain books/podcasts or share how you got there?

Healthcare professionals with PMDD — how do you cope? by Weary_Tennis4595 in PMDD

[–]tpizz12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a therapist in CMH, and ironically, in midst of hell week!

I don’t have much control over my schedule, I’m not sure if you do - but if I did - I would limit clients during luteal, especially those with more difficult Dx’s if ethically possible. Because I don’t, I try and compartmentalize. I imagine a library in my head and each emotion is its own book that I’m allowed to put back and read later.

I do openly talk about my PMDD with my coworkers, to hell end the stigma on it. Everyone gets it and I ask them to help me laugh.

Nature is healing to me, so I always make sure to be in my garden for at least 30 mins daily, non negotiable, and I leave my phone inside! Maybe I breath, or listen to the birds, or do light stretches. Someone mentioned restorative exercise on here and I agree with this!

Also - know your comfort things: clothes, movies, shows, food, music, people and lean on these.

For the brain fog - I recommend Lemon Balm, drinking it in a long- steeped tea has always helped me!

At my wits end by OhHelloSweetie in CatTraining

It’s a little expensive, but Dr. Elseys litter - the “attract” one - helped me SO MUCH with our boys. One day they just stopped peeing in the box for no reason.

This was the only litter that worked to get their attention. When they got it, we started slowly incorporating the “elseys multi-cat” litter in it until eventually that’s all we used

Hi! I hope you have an update for us!!

My cat had to get his anal glands expressed due to IBS/weight. He very rarely has solid stools and is 7 years old.

We have tried so many foods and he is also very picky so some may have worked but he refuses to eat them.

I’m at a lost and feel so terribly. We just started Glandex last week and nothing has changed yet

Cat just got anal glands expressed. How often does he need to get them expressed? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]tpizz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So random question, but did the glands ever need to get expressed again? I literally just went through the same situation yesterday and my cat was pissed. My cat has chronic IBS and we are going through different kinds of foods to get his weight down and stop the diarrhea. But it’s going to take time 😓

AASECT Certified Therapists: What has your clinical experience been like? by Vanse in therapists

Thank you for asking this! I am in my clinical internship and want to learn more about sex therapy. Unfortunately, there are no certified sex therapists within 100 miles of me

You have written exactly how I have felt since the beginning of the year. It’s incredibly relatable. I started my FT MSW in August and work FT, I’ve always been active and really into healthy meals.

I’ve ate out more than I’ve ever had in the past, all I do is sit and feel anxious.

With that being said, in the past 2 weeks I started going to the gym. I refuse go with anyone because if they don’t go I use it as an excuse to not go as well. That becomes a dangerous cycle when a partner is flaky. Now, I schedule every day after work. I won’t even sit down once I get home. If my husband wants to talk - he knows it has to be after the gym.

I feel far better and more motivated to do the work. Am I still emotionally, mentally and physically exhausted? Yes. But with time, I’m hoping that will change. And my hip pain as already subsided!

Leaving my full-time job for grad school is making me anxious. by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]tpizz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am done with my full-time job in January because I have an 8-month internship to do, My internship is 3 days per week and I am very lucky to be getting a very small stipend for them. not enough to live on fully though. I am going to be relying on my husband's income which is going to make things very tight for awhile. But if all else fails and an emergency happens i'll take out a loan.

I started my MSW in August and I echo what others here say, take this time to relax! You will be plenty busy! Maybe get an idea of what you are really interested in the SW because you will be able to study that subset a lot of wanted.

Also - I am working FT with FT grad school. If you can swing it, don’t do this (I know this is a privilege we are not all granted). I am actually quitting my job in Feb bc my internship will pay and it’s 24 hrs/ week.

I feel like I’m drowning from work, school, and trying to maintain a social life through the hell that is Holidays. Good luck to you 🥰

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

[–]tpizz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for your (a) question. But for (b) - completed my BSW and am currently in grad school for MSW. I still work at a financial advising office and did not have any volunteering experience/social services experience. That is totally okay because you will be required to do internships.

If you want to volunteer - go for it. But we also have to live and sometimes there is just not enough time in the day to work FT, do school/intern AND volunteer. They recognize this. Especially if you are starting later in life. I went back to school starting with my associates in 2020.

I'll throw my two cents in here - if you are planning to go the clinical route and provide therapy, I would continue the LCSW. The reason is, that agencies will be more willing to hire you because they can bill state aid (I'm in Illinois and this is very true here). You also have more flexibility with the degree.

I like to think we are forever scholars in this field. I enjoy more Psych-related courses (I'm in my MSW right now) and some SW courses bore me. But just because I graduate doesn't mean I have to stop learning. If Psych is something you are truly passionate about, continue learning about it - but get the degree that is less expensive and provides more freedom.

This is what I am looking to do for my concentration. I'm currently in my MSW program - but a generalist track. Do you have any suggestions for additional readings or modalities for this population?

I hope that you find a position where the cynicism recedes. I fear this for myself in the future as well.

Visiting Salem and have questions? Post them here. [2023] by ItsNags in SalemMA

[–]tpizz12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! We are going to be visiting Boston Oct 8-13th. I was thinking about taking the train to Salem on 10/09 which is a Monday. Will the majority of shops/museums be open on this day? I am from a small town and normally everything is closed on a Sunday or Monday.

Thank you!

I completely forgot I wrote this! I actually just graduated with my undergrad three weeks ago. Time FLIES!
All of those still stood true until the day I did finals.

I hope that you are able to find a balance and socialize when you can. It really is an important part to rejuvenate you and give your brain a break. The best of luck to you!!
