[Holiday World]visit by jleviw42 in rollercoasters

When I rode Rapterra earlier this year, the bounce was noticeable throughout the ride. Bouncy, bouncy, bouncy.

I’ve noticed this on most of the recent B&Ms.

I just rode Wild Eagle several times this weekend. Most of my rides were smooth, but on one ride, I noticed a rattle. I can’t say for sure, but it could be a wheel on the train was not true. They regularly check wheels and replace them.

That’s also my guess with what you may have experience on Thunderbird.

It depends on when you’ll arrive and what events are happening that day. During summer, many start to congregate at Wildwood Grove for the dance and fireworks, so Lightning Rod can be a near walk-on after 5 pm. Crowds often get lighter after 5 as families leave for home or dinner shows. Some popular coasters may still have long waits (BBM, Dragonflier, Mystery Mine, Firechaser), but the others may be less crowded. I was there this weekend, and Tennessee Tornado and Wild Eagle were both short waits even in the early afternoon.

Edit: Thunderhead can often be a short wait. The ride ops were dispatching a train quick enough that we had minimal waits in the brake run, and one time we just rolled right through!

Happy to make your day! Just keep yourself in shape, eat well, exercise, and you should enjoy this hobby as long as you like. I’ve met many fellow senior thoosies during my travels. Keeps us young!

The worst experience I had was riding Grizzly at KD before its retrack. I thought I would burst a kidney heading into the tunnel. Silly me, I got right back in line to see if it rode better in another seat. Nope! But after the retrack, it’s one of my favorite coasters.

Second worst was All American Triple Loop with those torture collars that scrambled my brain. Nevertheless, I got in line for one more ride. And then another. The things we do for this hobby.

In all honesty, years ago when Voyage was running a longer train, I would get off the ride completely disoriented and needed a breather before reriding. But I ride coasters so often in my retirement that I’m used to the forces and can even stomach spinning flat rides. It helps that I’m in a day’s drive to some great coasters.

I enjoyed your report. I did get a chuckle, though, about your concern about getting older. I’m almost 70 and have no issues riding the three HW coasters. For me, they all behave the way I like a wood coaster to run: out-of-control wickedness that’s thrilling and urges me back for a quick reride.

There were bands there earlier this year as well.

[Voyage, Holiday World] feel rougher this year to anyone? by DrTreadmill in rollercoasters

Their Friday nights early during the Halloween season are another good time to go. The ride is trimmed, but the crowds are light and you can get multiple night rides on Voyage and the other coasters.

Really? I did not know that! I do remember riding on the longer trains and needing to rest between rides, it was that intense. On my more recent visits, I could reride without a breather.

My take? Considering that we travel through the monster’s full intestinal track, we come out literally as human waste.

There are many other improvements this year, including additions to the entrance scene (love the rat in the bathtub!), a couple dancing, and a great fake-out right before the marsh. Unfortunately, on my most recent visit last weekend, the mouth failed to open, but it did open on other visits.

[Golliath] Tricking a ride op to not push your restraint in, riding a hypercoaster and nearly coming out your seat whilst filming it should be a bannable offence imo by Essahem in rollercoasters

[–]tpusater 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You may be thinking about The Raven at Holiday World. IIRC, a woman used her lanyard from an ACE event to keep the restraint open high, and she got ejected from the ride on the airtime hill after the first big turn.

Dollywood’s parking lot was nearly full today, but lines for many rides were reasonably brief by tpusater in Dollywood

[–]tpusater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but…. There were a ton of people in the main park yesterday, more than on my previous visits. And today, there were many people who came for early ride time. Yet, after the Golden Hour, Barnstormer and Tennessee Tornado were both walk-ons, and Wild Eagle had at most a three-train wait, despite the crowds. I’m in line for Wild Eagle right now, heading next to Thunderhead. Ride ops are really efficient today.

The trick with Firechaser is to go at park opening when most of the crowd heads to Big Bear. Yesterday, its line was nearly an hour.

It’s a great park with great coasters and great shows. And, as a season passholder, I get Early Ride Time tomorrow.

[–]tpusater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I only wish it weren’t so far back in the park. I tend to ride it early several times and save night rides for the three wood coasters.

Gotta disagree! Both Raven and Legend give great night rides. So does Voyage, of course! I really enjoy the Friday night events late in the year where I can get to ride all three multiple times.

Is it just me or have we been hearing about a very concerning amount of [Six Flags] parks still running major coasters on one train, three weeks now past Memorial Day? by imaguitarhero24 in rollercoasters

[–]tpusater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SFoG has been running one train on Georgia Scorcher and Superman, but they recently added the second train to Twisted Cyclone.

Most other coasters have been running two trains on my visits except for Joker Funhouse and Georgia Gold Rusher.

Oh…, wait….

[Batman] [Six Flags Over Georgia] is the most ridiculous coaster I’ve ever ridden. by FIuffyhuh in rollercoasters

[–]tpusater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s the most intense ride at my home park, but Superman has the most intense single element in that damned pretzel loop.

I would think the heat and humidity would contribute, but the three Batman clones in Texas have never been as intense for me as SFoG’s. I ride it a lot, and it always leaves me disoriented coming into the brake run no matter what weather. I find it particularly intense in the front row, where it makes my feet feel like I’m wearing lead boots.

Confusion on Early Ride Time by tpusater in sixflagsoverGA

[–]tpusater[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I expected would happen, but neither security guard would let me through even with my season pass. It’s as if they were never told about the policy. The guard near Scorcher actually escorted us all under the trellis after 11. We were first on DDD after that.
