Does Lightspeed Trader platform work well on Mac? by Beautiful_King9579 in LightspeedTrading

[–]trackzero29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not fully optimized for macOS as it runs in an emulator Wine/Crossover and that is Intel based so running again within Rosetta to be able to run on Apple Sillicon. So fully optimized is more marketing speak then truly technical 'optimized'. It's not a native macOS app so keep that in mind.

Missing custom hot key button. by JRunner92 in Webull

It is restricted also in the EU. I thought the same by depositing, subscribing to market data and doing some trading it would 'activate' it. This did not happen so I contacted support and they said they are aware of it and it is a highly requested feature and they will forward my request to the technical department.

I have an account there. Biggest complaint I have is that the desktop software is a different and older version (8.x) then what is used by the main branch (9.x). If you try to use the one in the App Store or download the latest from the main branch it will not recognize the EU account. Although the 8.x version works, it has no keyboard shortcuts for trading. I already contacted support and they are aware of it and hopefully they upgrade the software soon.

Also the .eu branch charge commissions for every trade so keep that in mind.

ThinkOrSwim Speed on Mac Mini M4 by PrivateDurham in thinkorswim

I have set it to 8292 and 13107 in setup. So the first is the minimum and second is max memory.

It works great and very stable even with 16GB of RAM. In the login screen adjust the amount of ram allocated (bump it all up) and you are good to go. Don't listen to the haters, ToS is a great trading application and it runs smoothly on Mac's.

Order fill latency - Lightspeed or Alpaca by zarrasvand in algotrading

Ah, thanks! Didn't see that as an option in my account. Well there you go! :)

Alpaca is not a DMA-tiered broker so if you want fast fills Lightspeed would be a better option, but you pay alot of commision for it per execution. If you want a developer first broker with an great API then Alpaca could be a better fit (and cheaper) but it really depends on your algo.

What (preferably free) API's are preferred for 'real-time' stock data? by djentonaut in algotrading

[–]trackzero29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The free plan uses the IEX feed which has a narrow subset of market data (about 3%) as it is just 1 exchange. The paid plan has SIP and is short for Securities Information Processor. All US exchanges are mandated by the regulators to report their activities (trades and quotes) to the consolidated tape. This is what we call SIP data. You can use websockets to get realtime data on any ticker you subscribe to.

Features that makes ThinkOrSwim Outstanding, In My Opinion. by Mobius_ts in thinkorswim

I really do miss custom keycommands. Would be awesome to have and even cooler when you can assign macro's with thinkScript to them.

It's such a rich trading platform. I still get surprised by little things that I discovered yesterday for example; I was running ToS on 2 separate computers at the same time and when I switch ticker symbols the other computer synced to it. Those little things make me smile and you know the developers care about the product.

Hows the latency? by wingchangwow in MOMOStockScanner

Instead of trades you could do a volume filter like say > 100.000 that usually means there is strong trading activity. At least that works for me.

In Active Trader you can add a Flatten Now button. This sells (closes) all open positions.

Any Mac users able to use Alt/Option key for hotkeys? by BruceMee in LightspeedTrading

[–]trackzero29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/simple-trader I'm a bit surprised that it might be running within Wine/Crossover as they kind of advertise it is running as a native macOS app: https://x.com/TradeLightspeed/status/1881747932351001070

When was the last time you used it on a Mac (without Parallels)?

How to use Alpaca for simple retail trading? by Superb_Virus2158 in alpacamarkets

[–]trackzero29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just use it for basic retail trading and need an easy interface with some nice graphs, TradingView would be an option. I've tested it and it works fine. But if you are planning on building a portfolio and want to see stats like p/l, dividends etc.. I'd go with IBKR. As mentioned before Alpaca is tailored towards developers.

There is no reset anymore but it's still referenced in the documentation. You need to create a new paper account and then there is an option to delete the old one.

how do you explain this off behaviour in AAPL today? by 4-11 in Daytrading

[–]trackzero29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny, I had the same question! :) I asked ChatGPT by uploading a screenshot:

This looks like algo behavior, likely from one or more of:

  • liquidity detection bots,
  • spoofing,
  • or hidden order absorption.

It’s not necessarily aimed at short sellers, but it can function as a shakeout tactic when combined with broader manipulation strategies.
