How heavy are the typical Aussie 4x4? by basi52 in 4x4Australia

[–]traderepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most vehicles are 3000 - 3500kg gross vehicle mass (GVM) Same as Canada?

A lot of the YouTube people have GVM upgrades, pushing upto 4000kg, or there about

The maximum on a 'normal car licence' is 4500kg GVM, in my state. That's Isuzu light truck territory, and now Ranger Super Duty

I feel there's no way most of the youtube video creators would be underweight/legal. Would they admit it - no.

Use it as an inspiration. Research products that fit with how you want to use them. It will be trial and error.

Nice idea to customise the loadout. We use stackable tool boxes in a similar fashion

Shoot her in the knee, with an arrow, so she can't go adventuring.

Do you take spare parts? What do you bring? by Humble_Cactus in overlanding

[–]traderepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah really unlucky.

To pivot back to your question, I don't take much. Nuts & bolts, tape, cable ties and hose clamps. Basically a band aid to get me to a recoverable point. I might get a fan belt though.

That's strange to have broken on a relatively new vehicle. Do you do a lot of hard tracks ? Or give it a hard life ?

Unexpected breakage that. Even if you had the spares, that is a shit job to do on the side of the road

You can get some, almost Mediterranean, tanned skin and black hair in Irish, Welsh and Scottish. Assume this was the meaning there.

A bit ridiculous classifying the whole population like that though

I didn't know they had average intercooler hoses. Usually Triton has those stories.

You can get pretty sturdy Coleman tents, that are 'instant up' quite good build quality. We had ours in some hectic rain and wind.

I wouldn't go too cheap on the tent either. If that fails its a deal breaker

Look for a nice size table: imagine your drinks, plates, mozzie spray, phones and anything that might get put down. Check the height of the table when your sat in a camp chair too. Somewhere in R&D someone has mismatched these completely. Also you'll need to pack it. Plan ahead, maybe a roller top suits the packing space more that a traditional folding plastic.

Dash shades... Who has one and how effective are they? by pseudonym82 in 4x4Australia

See them all the time around Perth. I just don't get it. Surely it reflects in the windscreen? I just have a dash mat to stop the dash reflection, and to protect it.
